71. Happiness is actually very simple.
With the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, although the sun shines brightly on sunny days, a cold breeze still blows through the school.
Now Li Wei was soaking wet again. Clinging to Luo Da's arm, she climbed ashore, feeling a chill to the bone and sneezing several times. She quickly shook off her dripping wet jacket; thankfully, she had left her backpack on the boat. Her T-shirt was also wet, but she couldn't take it off—she was shivering uncontrollably from the cold.
Seeing Li Wei's disheveled appearance, Luo Er, Li Lianhui, and the others were too frightened to utter a sound. Li Lin and Wu Feng also surrounded Li Wei, anxiously asking her all sorts of questions.
Li Wei felt like she had fallen into an ice cave and had no mood to pay attention to them. She was thinking of hurrying back to her aunt's place to change her clothes and warm up when a large sports jacket was put on her head. It was Luo Da's: "Take this and go to the women's restroom over there to change."
After Luo Da finished speaking, he pointed to the toilet not far away.
Without a word, Li Wei immediately ran over, quickly took off the clothes she was trying on, and put on Luo Da's big coat, feeling much better. Wu Feng and Li Lin, who came in after her, were dumbfounded; that speed was just too fast!
After changing her clothes, Li Wei remembered that Luo Xiaosan had also fallen into the water and must be quite cold too. She quickly wrung out some of the wet clothes in her hands to remove some water, otherwise they would be too heavy to carry. Seeing that she had underwear, she quickly took her bag from Wu Feng and stuffed the wet clothes inside.
Seeing her sister's pitiful state with her hair plastered to her face, Li Lin felt very guilty: "I'm sorry, sister, it's all my fault. I shouldn't have given that bad idea to stop you there."
Li Wei waved her hand: "Be careful next time. This time the water was shallow. If it were deep, it would be dangerous. Remember this lesson and don't let it happen again. Let's get out of here quickly. Xiao San'er is wet too, and she must be cold. Let's go."
When the three of them came out, they found that Xiao San had already changed her clothes. It was Luo Er's outer garment, a bit long, which just covered Luo Xiao San's bottom. Her original wet clothes and pants were still in Luo Da's hands, twisted into a mess.
Luo Xiaosan showed none of Li Wei's disheveled state, as if falling into the water was quite an interesting thing, and was laughing and joking with everyone.
Although Li Wei had changed into dry clothes, her pants and shoes were still wet, making them very uncomfortable. After discussing it with everyone, they decided to hurry back to her aunt's to change. Li Wei didn't want everyone to have too much fun, so she suggested that Luo Da and Luo Er continue playing while she took Xiao San'er and a taxi home.
Luo Er and Li Lin felt guilty. Of course, they were too embarrassed to continue playing around. They all followed Li Wei back to the company, where they could finally have lunch together.
Cheng Fei saw Boss Qi off. The colleague who came with Ding Anping also took away the troublemaking thugs. The two were talking there when Li Wei returned with a group of children.
Cheng Fei immediately noticed that Li Wei was in a bad state. Thinking she had encountered some bad people again, she jumped up, grabbed Li Wei, and asked, "What happened? How did you get into this state so soon after going out?"
Li Wei smiled wryly: "We accidentally fell into the water. Quickly find some clothes for me and Xiao San'er. Don't ask so many questions now. It's cold!"
Cheng Fei also noticed Luo San's strange attire. However, the boy was clearly in much better shape than Li Wei. He was lively and cheerful. Cheng Fei quickly said to Li Wei, "Then go to my room and take a shower. I'll go find you some clothes. You don't need to worry about the boy. I'll handle it. Go in quickly."
Cheng Fei often lives at the company and naturally has her own room, which is right next to Li Wei's office on the third floor. Although it's not big, the living facilities are quite complete.
Without another word, Li Wei went straight into the room and into the bathroom. She pulled the plastic shower curtain closed, took off her clothes, and turned on the tap. Hot water gushed out instantly, and it took a full five minutes before Li Wei felt completely warmed up. She let out a comfortable sigh. This was what life should be like! The difference between heaven and hell was just the temperature of the water.
Just as Li Wei was finishing her shower, her aunt called out from outside the curtain, "Xiao Ming, I've put all your clothes in the washing machine. Come out and wear them later."
Li Wei agreed, then thought better of it: "Auntie, do you have any underwear, socks, or anything like that? I can't just go out dressed like this, can I?"
"Don't worry, I just had Xiao Sun go and buy it for you. You don't need anything, including Luo Xiaosan. And Luo Jianhua, I saw that you made his clothes unwearable, so I found him a jacket too. Just leave the wet clothes here. I'll wash and dry them and bring them back to you tonight. Any more questions, little housekeeper?" Cheng Fei still didn't understand why Li Wei, who was eight or nine years younger than her, was even more of a worrywart. She wondered what was going on in that little head of hers all day.
Hearing how well her aunt had handled everything, Li Wei couldn't help but praise her: "Auntie, you're really something now! Your ability to get things done is amazing. You've really blossomed into a capable woman as you grow up, hehehe..."
Cheng Fei: "Don't laugh like that. Your voice makes me uneasy. I wonder what kind of trick you're up to now. By the way, I haven't settled accounts with you for all the stuff you extorted from Fatty Qi. Hurry up and wash, I'll deal with you when you come out."
Li Wei hurriedly said, "Hey, Auntie, don't go. I have a question for you. Is that Fatty Qi really a pervert? I've heard he's not a very good person. Is that true?"
Cheng Fei said irritably, "What pervert? Don't listen to Zhang Tong's nonsense. Although Lao Qi is a bit lecherous, he's not that kind of person. They have some misunderstandings. Now, every time Lao Qi comes, Zhang Tong acts like she's facing a major threat, like a frightened rabbit. Zhang Tong is overreacting."
Li Wei was skeptical. Was the fat man using a feigned attack while secretly plotting something else? Her aunt hadn't seen it. She, however, had personally witnessed the fat man's lecherous gaze fixed on Zhang Tong, so she asked Cheng Fei instead.
Cheng Fei sighed, "What do you know, you little brat? Which man isn't lustful when he sees a pretty woman? It's just a matter of some people hide it well and others don't. Old Qi may be a bit of a womanizer, but he's a decent person, loyal, and a friend worth having. You, don't be fooled by appearances. You have to go through some things to truly judge a person... Ugh, why am I telling you all this? You're still a long way from meeting men. Hurry up and wash up, I'll treat you to dinner afterwards." Cheng Fei finished speaking and left.
After taking a shower, Li Wei dressed while pondering her aunt's words. She had indeed experienced this principle before, but unfortunately, spending so much time with children over the years seemed to have dulled some of her experience. She wondered if she would forget it all in a few more years…
After getting dressed, Li Wei dried her hair with a large towel. As she combed her hair in front of the mirror, she saw her own fair face, which was noticeably fuller and a little chubby than in her previous life, her bright, clear eyes, and her pink lips. By any standard, she was a natural beauty!
Li Wei's mood suddenly improved. Who cares? She didn't have any grand ambitions anyway; she just wanted to live a comfortable life. As long as she was beautiful, had a good job, and a good husband, forgetting about the petty tricks of scheming against others wouldn't matter. There were gains and losses, so it was all worth it.
Li Wei arrived in the main reception room looking fresh and vibrant. Luo Xiaosan, dressed in children's sportswear, was already causing mischief everywhere like a little monkey. Luo Da sat cross-legged on the sofa, reading a sports magazine. He wore a plaid cotton long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up, which fit him well and gave him a somewhat refined air.
The girls gathered together, looking at fashion magazines and gossiping. Luo Er and Li Lianhui were nowhere to be seen. Li Wei couldn't help but ask, "Where did Luo Er and Xiao Hui go?" Could it be that the two culprits were feeling guilty and too ashamed to face anyone, so they were reflecting on their actions? That didn't seem like them at all.
Luo Da looked up at Li Wei and said, "She went out to play badminton."
Li Wei was a little speechless. These two brats only knew how to play; they didn't care about her at all. It seemed she had spoiled them for nothing before. She hadn't disciplined Luo Er enough, and Li Lianhui had bought him too many toys. It seemed she would have to treat them differently in the future, giving them more or less attention as needed.
For lunch, Cheng Fei took them to a seafood restaurant just across the street from the company.
As soon as Li Lianhui, Luo Erluo, and Luo Sanluo entered, they lay motionless on the aquarium, clinging to it like three starfish. The staff kept staring at them, seemingly worried that they might accidentally end up with three giant salamanders in the tank.
Cheng Fei found a private room with a large table, enough for more than ten people.
The waiter came in and handed the menu to Cheng Fei. Li Wei then asked the waiter for a few more menus, giving one to Li Lin and one to Luo Da. Luo Da refused. He's easy to please; after all these years, Li Wei pretty much knows what he likes to eat.
Back when they were selling hair accessories and running errands, Li Wei would always arrange the restaurants for the two of them. She had a pretty good appetite and loved eating the most expensive food. She had basically eaten at all the decent restaurants in the city.
Li Wei often thought of him when she had something delicious to eat, so she could rightfully assume that her son's excellent health was largely due to her efforts. It was only natural that he should repay her; otherwise, wouldn't all the effort in raising him to be so strong have been for nothing? Not to mention, she had even found him a martial arts master, his maternal grandfather, to be his teacher and help him learn…
Oh dear, Li Wei suddenly realized that she had done Luo Da a favor that was like giving him a second life.
I couldn't help but shift my gaze from the menu to Luo Da. This handsome and strong young man was so pleasing to the eye. I looked him up and down, pondering how to squeeze the last bit of value out of him. Even working like a slave would be too good for this kid.
After he grows up and gets married in a few years, it will probably be difficult for him to give orders anymore. It's good that he's all alone now...
Luo Da, who was sitting idly, suddenly sensed something was wrong. Why was Li Xiaoming looking at him instead of the menu? And it seemed like the landlord was staring at him like he was sizing up a farmhand. He quickly stopped him, asking, "Is something wrong?"
Li Wei coughed and looked away: "It's nothing, I just noticed you've lost weight lately, so I was thinking of getting you something to help you recover. Hmm, see how good I am to you? Oh, by the way, I want to praise you for your performance today, keep it up, hehe..."
Cheng Fei stared at the menu without even lifting her eyelids: "Don't laugh like that, it's scary."
Li Weiluo Da: ...
Li Wei had actually noticed that Luo Da treated her quite well, much more considerate than the twins. At least he knew to get her clothes to wear, something those two little brats hadn't thought of.
When it really matters, Luo Da is still the most reliable.
