Ninety-four awkward

Ninety-four awkward

Li Wei heard that Li Lianhui had come in a hurry, so it seemed that Luo Da also had something urgent to attend to, or something he couldn't tell anyone, otherwise he would have come to find her himself.

Li Wei put on her clothes, ignored the two clothing vendors who were still making a fuss, put on her shoes, and went downstairs.

Luo Da was waiting for Li Wei at a corner near her building. He wasn't alone; he was with Shen Tao. Li Wei had a feeling something was amiss, and sure enough, Luo Da whispered to her first, "Do you have any money?"

Li Wei —

Look at Shen Tao, his arms and legs are fine: "Where did you hurt him this time?" Wasn't Shen Tao already close to surrendering to Luo Da? How did he get into trouble again?

Luo Da: "It wasn't me, it was him, his... and Yuan Jiawei..." This was the first time Luo Da had encountered something like this, and he didn't know how to explain it.

Shen Tao's expression was somewhat unnatural, but he didn't say anything.

Li Wei didn't dare to think that way, guessing, "You beat up Yuan Jiawei?" If that's true, Shen Tao is really awful. I'll have to persuade Luo Da not to associate with this kind of person in the future.

Shen Tao always prided himself on being a real man and would never do anything as despicable as hitting women. Now that Li Wei was questioning his character, he immediately objected: "How could I do such a thing? I never hit women. What kind of skill is it to hit women!"

"Then what did you do?" Not hitting women doesn't necessarily make someone a good person.

Shen Tao felt a little embarrassed to ask Li Wei, who was a girl like her. When pressed, he said, "Just tell me if you'll lend it to me or not. Why all the nonsense?"

Li Wei glanced at him sideways: "Hey! You little punk, you're getting impatient. Is this how you beg for money? Besides, why should I lend you money? Who knows what illegal or disorderly things you've done? I don't want to be an accomplice! Don't yell at me. I'm not afraid of you!"

After saying that, he turned to leave. Luo Da stopped him: "He got someone pregnant."

Li Wei stopped. She turned her head and looked at Shen Tao incredulously: "How old are you? A boy in his teens can do that?"

Shen Tao felt incredibly uncomfortable under her gaze. To be honest, Li Wei had scrutinized him several times today. He didn't know why he was so unlucky. He forced a firm voice and said, "What? I'm eighteen. Is that a problem?"

Ten, eighteen! He's that old. Come to think of it, that makes sense. If he hadn't repeated a grade, he should be in his final year of junior high. Normally, he'd be seventeen or eighteen. We've always thought our group was younger, so I assumed my classmates were young too. So, he should be capable of handling things by now. In ancient times, wouldn't people this age already have sons…?

Li Wei was lost in thought. Luo Da noticed that Li Wei remained silent and, fearing that Shen Tao would lose face, nudged her to indicate that someone was waiting to save her life.

Li Wei snapped out of her daze: "Um, oh? So, you're borrowing money to go to the hospital, right? Are you planning to give birth or something?" Anyway, it's not uncommon for people in the countryside to get married at eighteen or nineteen. It's not a big deal.

Shen Tao listened with a hint of sadness: "I wanted to have the child, but they wouldn't agree, so I had to do it." Anyway, he didn't really like studying. Getting married wasn't so bad.

Li Wei was silent for a while: "Does your family know about this? This is no small matter. It's better to be cautious. It's not just about money."

Luo Da continued, "Shen Tao lives with his grandfather. Yuan Jiawei doesn't have a mother and lives with her father, who doesn't really care about her. Basically, no one in the family takes care of her."

The two poor children did something truly hateful.

Although they didn't have much contact, she could tell that Yuan Jiawei was a strong-willed person with good grades who wanted to change her fate through education. Of course, she couldn't possibly marry Shen Tao so early and spend her whole life in the countryside.

Li Wei thought for a moment: "Although I don't want to lend you money for this, since you've come to me, I can't just ignore it. I'll give the money to Luo Jianhua, and consider it a loan from Luo Jianhua to you. It has nothing to do with me. Also, I suggest you find a better hospital. This is a matter of life and death; you'll regret it for the rest of your life if something goes wrong." In her previous life, she had seen many reports of similar incidents in the media, so she had some basic common sense.

Li Wei went back and got the money for Luo Da. As for how Luo Da handled it, she didn't want to get involved. She felt that this kind of thing was a bit... well, it was a life, after all, and it was just gone like that. It made her feel uneasy.

Ugh. I really don't know how I ended up in this mess. What bad luck! And that Luo Da, what a terrible friend he is, what a mess he's causing!

Li Wei ate dinner in a depressed mood and went to bed early.

The next morning, after Luo Da came out, Li Wei quietly asked him while Ding Anni and Li Lin were riding ahead, "Hey, did they go to the hospital?"

Luo Da also said softly, "They said they'd go today."

Li Wei started to chime in: "Why is Shen Tao like this? I've never seen him do anything good since I met him. What's so good about him that you've become friends with him?" It's easy to imitate someone like that when you're with them.

Luo said after a long pause, "Aside from being a bit of a womanizer and a bit of a fighter, he's alright. Besides, I can't just not help him since he asked me for help. We've always had a good relationship."

Not bad? That's pretty good, but what's so good about him?

Li Wei continued to persuade him: "What do you mean 'okay'? I think there's something wrong with his character. Look at how many people are like him. Look at what he did, it's clearly not something a good kid would do. You should take this as a warning and not follow in his footsteps." Li Wei tried to speak in a more casual and nonchalant tone so as not to provoke someone who might be going through puberty.

Luo Da remained silent. Li Wei's living environment had always been relatively simple, but Luo Da's was quite different.

He had heard and seen too many of these kinds of things from his father since he was a child. It could be said that before Luo Sanjiu got married, he was even worse than Shen Tao is now. Although Luo Da didn't see it with his own eyes, he had heard his grandmother and mother gossip about it behind his back.

Even now, when his father is at it, he doesn't seem to restrain himself much when it comes to fighting or flirting with women. Because of this, the couple has had their share of dirty dealings. Not many others know about it, but Luo Da knows it better than anyone else.

Even so, Uncle Luo still had a bunch of cronies, and many of them would step forward to help when things went wrong. He often scolded Aunt Luo with the saying: "Women don't understand men's affairs, so don't meddle."

In the surrounding villages, Uncle Luo, though not wealthy or powerful, was still a well-known figure. Although his reputation wasn't great, and everyone knew he didn't do anything good, he never bullied ordinary people or harmed the locals. He usually hung out with a group of people from the city. If any villagers asked him for a favor, he would help them out. So, people who knew him didn't dislike him; in fact, many thought he was a loyal and good person.

At least for now, Luo Da doesn't think there's anything wrong with Shen Tao. His dad has quite a few friends like him. He remembers his dad telling him: "Don't listen to your mom's nonsense. Men have their own friendships. Women's limited knowledge is more likely to cause trouble than help!"

So now, whenever Li Wei mentions Shen Tao, it reminds Luo Da of many similar scenarios. Agreeing with Li Wei is out of the question, and if he disagrees, he instinctively knows she'll be unhappy, so he simply remains silent.

After talking for a while, Li Wei saw that Luo Da was still a silent type, and she couldn't help but feel a little discouraged. This kid doesn't know what's good for him. Why should she waste her breath on him? It's really pitiful... what a waste of her heart! Right, she's not his parent, and his parents don't have time to care about him. Why is she doing this?

Neither of them spoke as they went to school.

For several days, neither of them spoke to the other. Luo Da felt that Li Wei was probably unhappy and didn't know what to say.

Li Wei was getting increasingly unhappy. This kid not only didn't repent, but he even dared to give her attitude. What an ingrate! She had been so good to him before, and he was still doing well for her. He might even treat her better than his parents. He was heartless. He dared to throw a tantrum for her over some lousy Chen Tao!

Riding in someone else's car that day felt awkward, so Li Wei decided not to ride in Luo Da's car anymore and to stay away from this little wolf cub. But looking back, she realized that there was once a bicycle placed in front of her that she hadn't cherished, and now, looking back suddenly, that bicycle was with Princess Anne!

Letting her ride her bike with Ding Anni is out of the question, and Li Lin won't do either. She can ride with Li Lianhui, even though he leaves a bit early. That kid isn't particularly studious, so I don't know why he's so diligent about going to school every day. He used to arrive as early as Li Lin, and even now that Li Lin leaves a little later, he's still always there early.

He always gets home later than anyone else, and I don't know why. When I ask him, he says he went out to play with his classmates.

Li Wei secretly inquired and found out that she did go to play, but she didn't go to the arcade much, and even if she did, she didn't stay out very late, so she was relieved.

Therefore, Li Wei couldn't stand riding in Li Lianhui's car for more than a day.

It's the weekend, and Ding Anping picked up Ding Anni after school.

Li Wei felt much more at ease. After washing up and lying in bed that night, she was relieved that no one had come to rummage through her things. She was planning to go to sleep early so she could visit her aunt earlier the next day.

Li Lianhui arrived: "Sis, um... Brother Hua is looking for you."

Li Wei thought the lines sounded so familiar. It seemed Li Lianhui had reported this situation a few days ago, and nothing good came of it. Besides, that Luo Da kid had really hurt her feelings; she should ignore him!

Thinking of this, Li Wei rolled over and said, "Tell him I'm asleep. Don't bother me with anything. I haven't even finished repaying your kindness, and you dare to give me attitude. Don't think I don't hold grudges against kids. Kids are people too."

Li Lianhui said somewhat awkwardly, "But everyone saw that you weren't asleep. I just saw you watching TV downstairs, and Brother Hua saw you outside too."

Li Wei was furious. How could this brat be so stubborn and disloyal? "Just say I just fell asleep. I've already lain down! Just say that, and ignore him!"

He's not the emperor's son, so why should I get up to greet him? Even if I haven't slept, I won't get up. What else can I do?
