Sixty-Eight Heroes

Sixty-Eight Heroes

Li Wei lets Li Lin do whatever she wants. She knows better than Li Lin where the things are. She's put the really valuable things in a safe place, so Li Lin probably won't be able to find them.

Li Wei turned and went to her small kitchen, poured out a small dish of hawthorn slices from a small bottle, ate them as she carried them back to her bedroom.

Li Lin had already dragged out a heavy, dark nanmu box, placed it on the carpet, opened the lid, and invited everyone to come and see it. One by one, everyone curiously sat around the box on the carpet, ignoring the hawthorn slices that Li Wei handed over.

The contents of the box shimmered brilliantly in the sunlight, momentarily stunning the girls. Li Lin had seen it before, but Wu Feng had never seen it before. Because she had been close to Li Wei since childhood, she wasn't as reserved as Li Lin. After regaining her senses, she reached out and picked up a platinum peacock inlaid with blue-green gemstones, adjusting the angle of her eyes to examine it: "It's so beautiful."

The box contained various jewelry items that Li Wei had bought while traveling or shopping, as well as gifts from her aunt. These included brooches, bracelets, rings, necklaces, earrings, and more in various shapes and materials, in a dazzling array of colors and textures, from gold, silver, jade, crystal, gemstones, coral, ivory, and amber—all exquisitely beautiful.

No woman dislikes beautiful jewelry; it's both an innate hobby and an investment. Li Wei is like that; she takes it out to play with in her spare time, like a refrigerator full of food, giving her a different kind of vanity and satisfaction.

Of course, the truly valuable items that Li Wei bought at great expense, those with greater collectible value, weren't these. Even her mother didn't know about them; only her aunt and Ding Anping each knew a portion, because they accompanied her when they had time to buy them. Li Wei planned to keep them as her family heirloom, to be passed down to her daughter, her daughter's daughter, and her descendants for generations to come—she considered herself a foolish old woman.

A female colleague of hers from her past life once said, "Besides having some savings, a woman needs to have some treasures. Clothes are a must, but jewelry is even better, as it gives a woman more confidence when she goes out."

Li Wei sat on the bed eating hawthorn slices while watching them play with the things in the box. Li Lin kept reminding them to handle it carefully, saying that it was very expensive and that she seemed quite worried.

The group arrived at Cheng Fei's place in just a few minutes. As soon as they entered the courtyard, they saw Old Liu from the gatehouse and Sun Yingying from the reception desk entangled with two men who looked rather shady. The two sides seemed to be arguing about something.

Li Wei quickly pulled Luo Da over; this talisman couldn't be brought for nothing. As they approached, Li Wei raised her voice, "What's going on here? Who are those two? What are they making a scene for?"

Holding onto Luo Da's arm, Li Wei felt like she was acting like a bully relying on his master's power.

The two men were clearly after Sun Yingying. Old Liu had time to reply: "Li Wei, you're here. They say they're Xiao Sun's boyfriend and insist that Xiao Sun go out with them. Xiao Sun didn't want to go, but they kept dragging her along, and that's how the fight started."

While listening to Lao Liu explain the situation, Li Wei kept an eye on the three people. The two young men didn't look like much. One of them, who was wearing slippers, didn't take them seriously at all, seeing that they were just a group of teenagers. He seized an opportunity to grab Sun Yingying's wrist and tried to pull her out.

Li Wei hurriedly tugged at Luo Da's arm: "Go help! This is a robbery of a woman in the street! Oh, and hey—don't hit her!" If Luo Da went up and slapped her, it would be troublesome. Who knows who was right and who was wrong?

Luo Da, despite his young age, was incredibly skilled; he could easily take on three or five grown men. He took a few steps forward, and although they weren't close to begin with, Luo Da somehow managed to grab them by the back of the neck. He then casually pulled them together and turned to Li Wei, asking, "What do we do now? Where do we put them?" His tone was as if he were asking Li Wei which basket to put these two potatoes in.

Putting aside others, even Li Wei was a bit dumbfounded. She never expected that this kid would actually be so capable. He's truly an essential tool for dealing with hooligans, whether at home, traveling, or just getting by. Thumbs up!

Coming to her senses, Li Wei glanced at Sun Yingying: "Speak up, who exactly are you to them? If you have no connection, we'll throw them in the trash. Daring to cause trouble at our company, they should at least keep their eyes open and see how things are going." Phew, she could finally say something from the underworld, how satisfying.

The two men being dragged by Luo Da initially struggled to break free from his clutches, but Luo Da tightened his grip, and they felt their limbs go numb and weak all over. They cursed, "Damn it, you little brat, you're asking for it! I'll get some people to cripple you..."

After being shaken by Luo Da, they turned red in the face and fell silent, looking like two little rascals.

Seeing that the two had completely quieted down, Sun Yingying pointed at the one who had been cursing and said with lingering fear, "He's my ex-boyfriend. We broke up a long time ago. He knew I worked here and came to borrow money from me. I refused, so he insisted on taking me outside to talk. That's all. I didn't provoke him at all." She really had bad luck with people; how could her classmate introduce such a person to her?

Li Wei glanced at the two women, then at Sun Yingying, and they certainly didn't seem to be alike. Sun Yingying was someone she had personally chosen and hired; she was a respectable girl, very diligent and meticulous in her work, and she had even planned for her to become her aunt's assistant after her probation period.

Li Wei thought for a moment and said to Sun Yingying, "Go call the police station and say that someone is causing trouble here. Oh, call Ding Anping's police station. It would be even better if he were here."

Turning to Luo Da, he asked, "Should we wait for them to come and take them away? Or can you carry them for now?" Anyway, carrying them is no different from carrying two rabbits.

Luo Da looked at the two rabbits and said, "No need, just leave them here. They can't run away anyway." He then put the two rabbits, which were already limp, on the ground.

Li Wei gasped in disbelief: "Won't you get hurt?"

"It's alright, your blood circulation will improve in a bit," Luo Da said, not even glancing at the two people on the ground.

Li Wei asked Lao Liu to keep an eye on the two of them, and led everyone into the building. Halfway there, she turned back to look at Luo Er and Li Lianhui: "You two aren't as good as Luo Jianhua, are you?" If it's suspicious, the two of them will go around forming gangs to play.

Luo Er glanced at Li Lianhui, and Li Lianhui looked at Luo Er. The two of them simultaneously looked at Li Wei and shook their heads, glancing at Luo Da with a hint of fear, as if they were looking at a monster.

As Li Wei walked, she said, "I was wondering why there were so many chivalrous heroes all of a sudden. Turns out they're all oddballs."

As soon as they reached the first floor of the stairs, Li Wei saw Zhang Tong peeking out from the corner. She frowned at her and asked, "Is my aunt here? What are you doing here?" She didn't even call someone for help; she was acting all sneaky.

Zhang Tong spotted Li Wei coming up and said somewhat embarrassedly, "President Cheng went out. I was just checking to see if those two hooligans were gone. They were really scary." She looked even more frightened than Sun Yingying, clutching her heart. A man seeing her like this could easily feel pity for her.

Unfortunately, Li Wei wasn't a man: "You knew how to scare people but didn't know how to help. You could have called someone over, instead of just standing here watching the show. Now that things are resolved, you should go back to what you were doing!"

It turns out that there really is no tiger in the mountains; with my aunt away, these demons and monsters have come out to cause trouble.

Li Wei remembered something and called out to Zhang Tong, who was turning to go upstairs: "Who's at the company today?"

Zhang Tong noticed that Li Wei was a little unhappy, and carefully said, "Today is Sunday, isn't it time to start work at nine? There's only one accountant upstairs and two warehouse keepers in the back warehouse."

I forgot that the office staff on weekend shifts start work at nine o'clock. They came out early, and it's only a little past eight-thirty now, no wonder it's so quiet.

For some reason, Li Wei felt somewhat worried about the company's situation. Two hooligans had actually managed to barge into the house like this. Even if her aunt was there, what difference would it make? After all, she was a girl, and it was very inconvenient for her.

With Ding Anping protecting them, they've always been safe and sound, but things can't go on like this forever.

Li Wei was lost in thought as she walked upstairs, unaware that something even more exciting awaited her today.
