Twenty-eight vs. Aunt Luo's Third Brother
Li Wei was small and light, and she climbed onto the roof in no time. Luckily, the roof was flat, otherwise it would have been quite difficult. There were many bricks and tiles scattered on the flat cement roof, probably thrown up by the child in her mischief.
Luo San sat among a few bricks and watched Li Wei climb up. He assumed she was there to play a game with him and was quite amused.
Li Wei broke out in a cold sweat when she saw what was happening on the roof. If Luo San had thrown those bricks at her, the chances of hitting her would have been much higher, and if she had been hit, it wouldn't have been as simple as just a bloody head. And this little assassin wouldn't even face legal consequences.
I almost became a sucker passing by.
Li Wei approached Luo San with a cold smile on her face: "Hehe, I'll play with you, but don't move around, or I won't play with you anymore."
He took a few steps to Luo San's side, his face immediately contorted with rage, and grabbed Luo San's vest: "You brat, you dare throw tiles at me? You're asking for trouble!" He swung his hand and slapped Luo San's butt. "Don't even mention you little brat, I've beaten your second brother a few times already."
Luo San was caught off guard by the sudden change and was a little slow to react, but the pain from the slap on the buttocks still reached his brain, and he cried out and struggled violently.
Li Wei was very experienced in disciplining children. She used her calves to hold Luo San down, one hand pressing down and the other hand spanking his bottom. The little brat Luo San was no match for her. Just as Li Wei was enjoying the beating, a tiger's roar suddenly rang out.
"How dare you hit my son! Whose little brat are you!" This is reminiscent of the legendary Shaolin Lion's Roar.
Li Wei looked up and saw a woman rushing into the Luo family's gate below the small house. She couldn't make out her features from below, but judging from her figure, she resembled Luo's third aunt. Li Wei immediately realized that something was wrong.
Aunt Luo was furious. She hadn't returned home for over two months. When she finally came back, she saw her son being beaten by a girl on the roof of her house. She wanted to see who had the audacity to mess with her son.
She rushed down to the house. She recognized her. It was Old Li's eldest daughter from the backyard. She yelled angrily, "You little brat! You're asking for trouble! Daring to hit my son! See how I deal with you! Get down here!" With that, she rolled up her sleeves, waiting for Li Wei to come down and give her a piece of her mind.
The situation took a sudden turn. Li Wei was a bit dumbfounded. Who was Aunt Luo San? She was a notorious shrew in the village. Her shrewishness was unmatched; no one dared to challenge her. Now, she was downstairs waiting to deal with her. What was she going to do?
Li Wei tried to reason with them first. She forced a smile that looked more like a grimace: "Third Aunt, listen to me. It was Xiao San who threw things at me. I came up..."
"Hmph. I didn't see anything. I only saw you, you little brat, hitting my son. Hurry up and get down here. Otherwise, you'll be in for a world of hurt when I get up here. Hurry up!" Aunt Luo interrupted Li Wei aggressively, determined to teach Li Wei a lesson.
Others might not know, but Li Wei knew exactly what kind of person Luo San's aunt was. If she went down there, a severe beating was inevitable. So, going down was out of the question. But she couldn't stay up there forever either. Look at Luo San, crying and sobbing beside her. Why didn't you sleep properly and came up to the roof? Coming up to the roof is fine, but why did you have to pick a fight with me for no reason?
Oh right. How could I forget Grandma Luo? I glanced at the vegetable garden. When it rains, it pours. Grandma Luo, where have you been instead of working?! She's probably inside. Li Wei raised her voice and shouted, "Grandma Luo, Grandma Luo! Come quick! Little San'er's on the roof! Auntie's back!"
No response!
Aunt Luo sneered, "What are you shouting for? The old lady just went out. Besides, even if you call her back, it won't make a difference. This matter isn't over yet. You little brat, you're not coming down, are you? Fine, I'll go up!"
After saying that, he put down the big bag in his hand, looked around for a ladder or something to stand on, but couldn't find one. He then opened the door of the small house where Li Wei was and went inside.
Li Wei probably went inside to find a ladder. What should I do? Frustrated, I thought, "Could it be that I've been beating other people's sons too much? I'm finally getting my comeuppance!"
Suddenly noticing something amiss, Li Wei turned around and saw Luo San, his crotch exposed, moving towards a corner of the house. Without a doubt, Li Wei knew this was the path he'd taken upstairs. She quickly grabbed Luo San; she couldn't let him escape, he was a hostage now. Her safety depended entirely on him.
Curious, she pulled Luo San to the corner of the room to see how he got up there. When they got there, they saw a ladder leaning against the roof! Without thinking, Li Wei said to Luo San, "You stay put, or I'll spank you!" Then she started pulling the ladder up, making sure Luo San's aunt couldn't get up there.
The ladder was made of wood and was quite heavy. Li Wei struggled a lot, pulling and tugging, before finally managing to get it up.
Just then, Aunt Luo, who had gone into the small room to look for the ladder, also came out. She hadn't found it, and she also realized the ladder might have been left outside. She happened to see Li Wei just pull the ladder onto the roof, and she was so angry she almost flew into a rage. Pointing at Li Wei, who was resting on the roof, she cursed, "You little bastard, you xxxxxxxxx, I OOOOOOO..." Her mouth started spewing profanities.
She could tolerate Aunt Luo San only scolding Li Wei, but now she was actually insulting her own parents. This was intolerable. She slapped Luo San's butt with a loud smack, the kind that didn't hurt at all. This was a skill she had learned from Li Lin and Li Lianhui, similar to the sound of someone giving a back massage in a bathhouse.
With Luo San's loud cry, Li Wei shouted, "Shut up! Why are you interrupting me when I'm talking to your mother! Do you hear me? If you cry again, I'll beat you up!" Luo San ignored her and continued to cry.
Aunt Luo felt so sorry for her that she stopped scolding her, her hand trembling as she pointed at Li Wei, stammering, "You...you..."
Li Wei was also going all out: "What do you mean 'I'? Go ahead and curse. Weren't you cursing quite enthusiastically just now? Keep cursing, and I'll keep hitting. Let's not bother each other."
Never had she seen such a bold brat. Aunt Luo was so angry she almost lay down. She stopped pointing at Li Wei and said fiercely, "Fine, fine, you little rascal, you wait, I'm going to find your parents. Let's see what they have to say, hmph!"
"Alright, alright, go find them. As soon as you step out of this yard, I'll grab Luo San'er and start hopscotch. Where will we jump? Right, right there on those bricks below. The other places aren't hard. Go find my mom and dad. Anyway, I don't want to live anymore."
"You, you dare threaten me!" Aunt Luo has really learned something new today.
"Yes, I'm threatening you, I'm threatening you! I clearly came up here to do a good deed, trying to get that mistress down, but in your mouth it's become me bullying a child. My good intentions are completely misunderstood. This life is so meaningless. Anyway, I'll have that mistress to play with over there. No, I mean, I'll have that mistress to vent my anger on. I won't be lonely. Hurry up and go, don't delay my jump, hmph!" Li Wei tried her best to make her expression look convincing.
Children don't understand the gravity of life and death; in a fit of anger, they might do something they'd later regret. If an adult said that, Aunt Luo wouldn't be afraid. But Li Wei is just a child, and besides, she has her youngest son with her...
Aunt Luo was momentarily at a loss. Just then, Grandma Luo returned with Luo Da and Luo Er. She saw her daughter-in-law standing in the yard, craning her neck to talk to someone. Looking up, she saw Li Wei and her third grandson sitting on the roof. She was furious and pointed at Luo San, saying, "You brat, when did you climb up onto the roof? Weren't you sleeping? Come down! Didn't you see your mother is back? Oh, wait a minute, you two, Yan'er, go up and get the children down."
Luo San's aunt's name is Zhao Chunyan.
Aunt Luo was even more furious. If I could go up there, would I be here wasting my breath? "Mom, didn't you see that brat from the Li family in the backyard pulled the ladder up? She was just up there beating up her mistress, and I said a few words to her. She then threatened to jump off the house with her mistress. Mom, what do you suggest we do?"
The old lady was no ordinary person; she knew her daughter-in-law's character better than anyone. And the eldest daughter of the Li family in the backyard was very sensible, having taken good care of her two school-aged grandsons. She must have been frightened by her daughter-in-law. Having figured this out, the old lady said to Li Wei with a gentle smile, "Girl, don't listen to your third aunt. She's just all bark and no bite. Grandma Luo knows you're a good girl. Lower the ladder quickly; let's talk things over calmly. Ah, good girl."
Li Wei no longer believed that Aunt Luo's third aunt was kind-hearted after seeing her hit her son; she was more likely to remain sharp-tongued, and her kind heart might have turned into a knife. She had to go down there, otherwise, if she lingered too long and her mother sent someone to find her and saw her fighting with the shrew, she'd be in deep trouble. Her father absolutely loathed that shrew.
Now, only Grandma Luo can keep this shrew in check: "Grandma Luo, others may not know, but I can see it. You know how hard it is for you every day, taking care of three disobedient children, doing housework, tending the fields. You're so old, it's so hard for you. And what about Auntie San? She's gone for months at a time. Luo Da loves to fight, Luo Er doesn't like to study, and Luo San runs around everywhere whenever he gets the chance. Does she know all this? Just now, when I brought you dumplings, I saw little San playing on the roof. I secretly climbed up to try and get him down, but seeing how naughty he was, I got angry and slapped him twice. Auntie San saw this, and before I even complained about the pain in my hand, she was already threatening to come up and hit me. I'm so wronged, Grandma Luo, sob sob..." Tears wouldn't come out, but her voice was easier to utter.
If there's anyone in this world who can keep Zhao Chunyan in check, it's Uncle Luo. Although Uncle Luo is a domineering man outside, he's a filial son at home and is very afraid of his mother. Consequently, his daughter-in-law, Zhao Chunyan, doesn't dare to be disrespectful to the old lady, especially since she's currently relying on her to support the family.
Therefore, Old Mrs. Luo ordered her daughter-in-law unhappily: "What kind of talk is this? Yan'er, speak properly and tell the child to put the ladder down. Honestly, I've never seen an elder like you, not knowing right from wrong!"
Although Zhao Chunyan was furious, the child was in their hands, and the elders weren't supporting her. More importantly, she wasn't a fool who couldn't distinguish right from wrong, and she believed her mother-in-law's words to some extent. So, with a grim expression, she coaxed Li Wei, "Good girl, put the ladder down, your aunt won't hit you." It was like a wolf in sheep's clothing coaxing a lamb to open the door.
Li Wei didn't quite trust her: "It's fine if you hit me, after all, I shouldn't hit a mistress, but you can't insult my parents. That shows that you have a serious problem with your character, and I can't trust you!"
Zhao Chunyan didn't know how many people talked about her character behind her back, and she didn't care what a little brat said, but it was really disrespectful to her to be confronted like this. So she said with a livid face, "Then what do you want? Just say it. I won't hit you."
Li Wei thought for a moment: "Swear to Grandma Luo that you're not allowed to curse my parents anymore, or your tongue will rot; and you're not allowed to hit me, or your hands will rot. If you swear, I'll believe you and put the ladder down. Swear quickly, if my parents find out about this, I won't live anymore." After saying that, she hugged the restless Luo San tightly and glanced down at the house, seemingly measuring the distance to jump.
Zhao Chunyan gritted her teeth and swore to the old lady, secretly hypnotizing herself, "I won't hold a grudge against that brat. As long as my son is safe and sound, I'll endure it!"
After Li Wei lowered the ladder, she didn't dare wait for Aunt Luo to climb back up. She quickly slid down the back wall that Aunt Luo had climbed up herself. Her hands stung from the scraping of the wall plaster, but she didn't dare look back and ran home like a ghost. She even forgot to take the big bowl.
I finally breathed a sigh of relief once I got to my own front door. Whew!
She escaped from the jaws of death, and it was a tigress no less. I wonder if the tigress will come to her house to complain. But if she had any sense of right and wrong, she wouldn't have done such a stupid thing. Besides, there's Grandma Luo here.
Li Wei ate the dumplings nervously, but couldn't taste anything. Aunt Luo didn't come until bedtime, and Li Wei felt relieved. However, tomorrow…
Sigh, I really brought this on myself.
The next day, Li Wei went to school early, before Li Lin and Li Lianhui had even gotten up yet.
Li Wei helped the students on duty clean the classroom when the Luo brothers came in. Li Wei rushed over and grabbed Luo Er: "Luo Jianzhong, Luo Jianzhong, what did your mother say after I left last night?"
Luo Er wasn't stupid at all. Not knowing what to say, he looked at his brother with a troubled expression.
Luo Da was even more astute, glancing sideways at Li Wei: "My mom left this morning, she doesn't have time to deal with you."
"That's good, that's good." Li Wei breathed a sigh of relief. For the first time, she overlooked Luo Da's rudeness and realized that this child was actually quite likable.
However, his next sentence completely undermined his good image: "Oh, are you afraid of my mom? You were quite fierce yesterday!"
Li Wei felt she should get her eyesight checked; how could anyone like such an awful child!
