Xiao Qingyun lowered his eyes and looked at the book in her hand, seeming to be really interested.
Lingzhi had a lot of complaints, so she vented them to him without hesitation.
"Look at these stories of talented men and beautiful women. They're all stories of rich ladies falling in love with poor, down-and-out scholars."
"Not only did she throw herself into his arms without any reason, but she also insisted on marrying a poor scholar, and even broke off her family relationship for him."
"But why do fairies, female ghosts, and wealthy ladies all love poor scholars and poor boys? What do they love about them? How can a poor scholar have any chance of getting in touch with the rich ladies who are kept in seclusion?"
Listening to Lingzhi's talk, Xiao Qingyun's eyes darkened slightly. He raised his eyebrows and asked, "Then why do you say that?"
Lingzhi slapped her thigh and said, "Of course it's because these storybooks were all written by men."
"Stories about talented men and beautiful women were all written by scholars. Some of these scholars weren't very successful, so naturally they had a certain air of poverty. They didn't want good women to be easily taken away by others, so they wrote these stories simply to satisfy their own fantasies."
"I think it's just that the author is down on his luck and hoping for a romantic encounter."
Seeing Xiao Qingyun smile, Lingzhi felt relieved and made a few jokes.
But he closed the book, looked at her seriously and asked, "So, what kind of men do these young ladies like?"
He looked into her eyes seriously and intently, as if asking her what kind of man she liked.
Ripples gently appeared in Lingzhi's heart.
But how could she, a poor little maid who had no one to rely on and had changed masters several times, dare to have such presumptuous thoughts?
Lingzhi lowered her eyes, "How should I know? I'm not a rich lady, I'm just an insignificant maid."
After hearing her words, Xiao Qingyun straightened his expression and said to her, "Don't ever say such self-deprecating words again. Who says a maidservant and a prince can't be made for each other?"
Lingzhi's face flushed immediately: "What kind of person is this! He's so serious and yet he's spouting nonsense!"
She rolled her eyes at him in annoyance, but he laughed uncontrollably.
Forget it, since he had a pretty nice smile, she didn't care!
After all, he was the first person to treat a maid with such respect.
…
…
After returning to the Regent's Palace, Lingzhi and Xiao Qingyun had just gotten off the carriage when he was called away by Qiye.
Lingzhi walked towards her courtyard alone.
The moon tonight is so big and round, as big as a washbasin.
The earth is illuminated by this bright white color, as if it is a gouache painting inlaid in a silver frame.
The night wind brought the scent of flowers again. I lowered my eyes and quietly counted the lines cast by the branches, but I saw two shadows on the ground.
Is someone following her?
Lingzhi's pace began to slow down. When he came across a stone on the road, he moved his toes and kicked the stone hard towards the shadow behind him.
Then there was a muffled groan.
Lingzhi turned around and saw Xia Qinghe lying on the ground in a mess, looking at her viciously.
"It's you?!"
Lingzhi was a little surprised to see Xia Qinghe.
"Aren't you washing clothes in the laundry? Why are you following me again? You're really haunting me!"
Xia Qinghe immediately clenched her fists and yelled at Lingzhi, "If you hadn't framed me, how could I have ended up in such a lowly place?"
Lingzhi said to her seriously: "Actually, you should be satisfied that you can live to this day and have such a stable life."
She was speaking from her heart. Thinking about the young lady's death in her previous life, at least Xia Qinghe was still alive and well.
But Xia Qinghe thought Lingzhi was mocking and provoking her.
She glared at Lingzhi, the complex mixture of anger and self-mockery making her a little crazy.
She laughed: "Lingzhi, I will make you regret it!"
Looking at her back as she ran away with her hands covering her face, Lingzhi sighed and couldn't help feeling a little tired.
The trajectory of her life took several sharp turns. She and Xia Qinghe disliked each other from the first time they met, but in the end they entered the Regent's Palace together.
Thinking about how she would never get her indenture back, and the young men she had imagined she had not yet married into her family, she suddenly felt like crying.
…
…
"You said this paper figure is the Taoist priest Lin Feng?"
Xiao Qingyun looked at the paper figure in the wooden box and asked in disbelief.
"Absolutely true!"
Qiye recounted to Xiao Qingyun what happened when he saw Lin Feng turned into a paper man.
Xiao Qingyun frowned and listened without saying anything for a long time.
It is hard to believe that a person who should have been killed by lightning is actually possessed by a paper man.
If he didn't know that Qiye would never lie to him, he would never have believed it.
"That means no one can bring Ali back?" Xiao Qingyun murmured.
Qiye was heartbroken when he saw his master's dazed look, and he didn't know what to say.
Xiao Qingyun didn't expect others to say anything. He rarely mentioned Li Li to others because his obsession was too heavy and he felt suffocated every time he thought of him.
"Hahaha, Prince Xiao, how are you?"
A voice suddenly came to my ear.
Xiao Qingyun was suddenly startled. He looked around but saw no one. Finally, he discovered that the sound came from the wooden box.
He looked down and saw the paper figurine in the wooden box moving without any wind. Disbelief gradually welled up in his eyes: "Lin Feng?"
"Yes, it's me."
When the paper figure was turned over, it was the face of Taoist Lin Feng.
"I just went through a tribulation and lost my physical body. I had no choice but to possess this paper figure."
"I didn't expect the Taoist priest to have such superb magic skills!"
