Chapter 146: Something fishy is going on

The old lady glared at Sheng An Ning: "I've never seen someone as petty as you. What's the big deal about a cucumber? We're all neighbors. No wonder everyone says you're not good. Who can you get along with?"

Sheng An Ning laughed: "Then you don't have to worry about it, I'm back now. I didn't care about you stealing my vegetables before, but if you dare to pull out a single vegetable seedling from me again, I will never let you go."

The old lady left angrily, cursing.

Sheng An Ning didn't care. She took some water and squatted in the yard to brush her teeth and wash her face. She listened to the old lady continue to scold Zhang Yimei, saying, "What time is it? Why don't you hurry up and cook? You act like a vixen every day. Who do you want to go out and hook up with?"

"Look at your miserable appearance. You look like a vixen. You can tell at a glance that you are a slut who can't live without a man."

Sheng An Ning naturally knew that this person was speaking indirectly about her, but she couldn't rush to join in the criticism. She just stared coldly at the old lady who was cursing in the next yard.

When the old lady met Sheng An Ning's gaze, she suddenly shut up. For some reason, the cold gaze of the young wife next door carried a warning, which made her unconsciously feel frightened and timid.

He quickly returned to the house in shame.

After washing up, Sheng An Ning stood in front of the door and looked at the vegetables in the yard. The more she looked, the more she liked them. She was thinking about going back to thank Qin Hongxia.

Just as she was thinking about what to eat for breakfast and whether Zhou Shixun would come back for dinner, Qin Hongxia came over with a small enamel basin covered with a piece of blue floral cloth.

Before entering the courtyard, she said with a smile: "When I woke up this morning, I heard from the receptionist at the door that you came back last night. I thought that since you had been away from home for such a long time, there must be nothing to eat, so I made some pancakes this morning and sent them to you."

Sheng An Ning was a little embarrassed: "It's okay, I'm still thinking about the vegetables in this yard, I'll just eat some cucumbers and tomatoes."

Qin Hongxia had already walked up to him: "How can you eat enough? You haven't been home for such a long time, and you haven't even brought out the stove. I'm afraid you can't cook it yourself. Come on, clean it up and eat it while it's hot."

Sheng An Ning couldn't refuse anymore, so she took Qin Hongxia into the house, and they sat down at the small dining table.

Qin Hongxia also put lard and chopped green onions in the white flour pancakes. Both sides are browned and shiny, crispy, soft, salty and fragrant, and the taste is very good.

Sheng An Ning finished two pancakes safely and effortlessly, and couldn't help but marvel at the fact that her appetite was getting bigger and bigger.

Qin Hongxia watched Sheng An Ning eat happily: "This is all new flour this year. Isn't it delicious? A few days ago, I went to the town and bought a few pounds of pork fat and refined a lot of lard residue. It's great for making pancakes. Why don't you wait for Xiao Zhou to come back and come to my house to eat dumplings."

Sheng An Ning waved her hand quickly: "No, no, we can just cook for ourselves. I brought back rice, noodles, and oil, and there are vegetables in the yard."

Qin Hongxia's enthusiasm was too much for her.

Seeing Sheng An Ning's insistence, Qin Hongxia didn't force it anymore: "Okay, let's wait for another day. Anyway, they are very busy recently. They either don't go home or come home in the middle of the night."

As for what she was busy with, she didn't know either, because a lot of the work couldn't be told when she got home, and if asked, it was kept confidential.

Qin Hongxia suddenly laughed as she spoke: "My husband, Mr. Li, has been going to the city to attend meetings and deliver materials these past few months. He has become more particular. You see, he didn't wash his hair for several days before, and he wouldn't even take off his clothes and wash them unless I urged him to change."

"Now he has become very particular. Every time he goes to the city, he washes his hair and face. He also insists on wearing a white shirt. He only has one white shirt, and he washes it clean when he comes back. He was never like this before."

As I said this, I actually felt very relieved.

Sheng An Ning felt something was wrong when she heard this. A man who usually didn't pay attention to his image suddenly started to pay attention to his clothes and appearance, and to his image. There must be something wrong.

Maybe there is someone outside.

She couldn't say this directly to Qin Hongxia, so she just said, "That's good, but Director Li looks young, and he will definitely look very handsome after dressing up, and he will be popular with girls."

Qin Hongxia laughed: "He is still a bumpkin no matter how well he is dressed up. Who would like him? Besides, let me tell you, anyone can have those bad things, but my Lao Li will never have them."

Seeing that Qin Hongxia was so absolute, Sheng An Ning couldn't say anything more and just listened to Qin Hongxia praising her man for being so family-oriented.

As they were talking, the topic changed and they started talking about Zhang Yimei's grandmother next door: "Did you hear what Grandma Zhang Yimei said? She's not someone you want to mess with. Just ignore her. If she says anything, just pretend you didn't hear her."

Sheng An Ning is not the type of person who would endure a loss, so she disagrees with Qin Hongxia's point of view: "That won't work. I won't take advantage of her or provoke her, but if she wants to take advantage of me, that won't work."

Qin Hongxia smacked her lips and said nothing. She wanted to persuade Sheng An Ning, but then she thought that Sheng An Ning had a crooked personality to begin with, and only now that she was willing to live a good life with Zhou Shixun did she calm down a little.

Everyone had quarrels with their neighbors in the past.

Qin Hongxia waited for Sheng An Ning to finish breakfast and chatted with her for a while before getting up and leaving. After leaving the house, she was worried that Sheng An Ning didn't know how to grow vegetables, so she told her that if the vegetables were dry, she should water them in the morning and evening, but not in the hot afternoon, as the vegetables would be drowned.

Sheng An Ning was really confused when she heard this. There were so many things to pay attention to when growing vegetables.

Seeing Sheng An Ning's bewildered face, Qin Hongxia simply waved her hand and said, "Forget it, forget it. I'll come over every day to help you. I'm free anyway. And there's a sweater. You haven't started knitting the wool you bought yet, right? You should start now. It gets cold early here. It's already cold in August."

Sheng Anning then remembered that she had bought the wool and nodded quickly.

After seeing Qin Hongxia off, Sheng Anning washed the sheets and curtains. At noon, she dismantled the stove and moved it to the yard, where she cooked some food.

While she was busy in her own yard, there was always unrest in Zhang Yimei's house. Either the children were crying, or the mother-in-law was scolding, or Zhang Yimei was beating the children to vent her anger. The whole house was in chaos.

On the other side, there was no movement in the house and no one came out.

Zhou Shixun didn't come back until the evening. Sheng Anning turned on the tape recorder and listened to the radio, while sewing a bellyband with the red cloth she bought. She knew the general design, but her needlework was not very good.

I finished sewing it very hastily and compared it in front of me. It felt okay.

She quickly took off her clothes and put them on happily. It seemed pretty good!

I just looked down and didn't hear any footsteps or anyone pushing the door open...
