Chapter 88 was all just to be worthy of her.

Just as he was about to freeze to death, he saw the thatched hut, which gave him some time to recover.

He quickly pulled out his signal transmitter, wanting to report back, but for some reason, there was no signal at all in the primeval forest.

He could only hope that someone would notice the unusual situation on his end and come to his rescue.

As time went by, his blood rapidly drained, and the cold weather added to the already dire circumstances. If no one found him in time, he might have disappeared from this world.

Just as his consciousness was fading, the door was pushed open, and a red figure walked in. Behind the woman was a vast expanse of white snow, and she looked like a fairy who had stepped out of a painting.

A stunningly beautiful woman walked up to him, and her melodious yet cold voice rang out, "How did you get so badly injured? Luckily, you met me, otherwise you might have lost your life here."

The woman took off her red, windswept cloak and draped it over him.

His consciousness was very weak, but he felt the changes in his body and gradually felt a little warm. The piercing cold that had been nauseating him dissipated a lot.

He raised his barely movable hand and pinched his thigh hard, which brought him back to his senses.

Only then did he get a clear look at the woman in front of him. She had a beautiful face, skin as white as snow, and wore a white ancient dress. Her hair was tied up and fixed at the back of her head, with only a single hairpin carved with red plum blossoms on it.

She was just like the woman he had seen in paintings from country Z before—so beautiful, almost unreal.

When the woman saw him wake up, a hint of shock appeared on her previously indifferent face. "You have a good will. It's truly remarkable that you could still wake up after suffering such serious injuries in this environment."

The woman looked at him without reservation and praised him.

He didn't speak, staring blankly at the woman in front of him, as if afraid it was his imagination.

Seeing that he didn't speak or get angry, the woman got up, walked to a corner of the wall not far away, picked up some dry firewood, came over, took out a flint from her bag, and quickly lit a fire next to him.

Then he took out an acupuncture kit and some simple medical instruments and said calmly, "You should know your physical condition. If the bullet is not removed in time, you will get an infection and fever, which could kill you in this kind of place. The most urgent thing is to remove the bullet. Do you understand?"

He nodded after listening to the woman's words.

His situation was indeed as the woman had described, and he was clearly aware that he was on a downward spiral.

Seeing him nod, the woman continued, "It's good that you're awake, so I'll know the situation better when I make my move. However, without anesthesia, you may have to be patient."

When he heard that she wanted to save him, he had no doubts and was grateful. "Thank you for your help, young lady. I can still bear this pain."

The woman was deeply moved by this, whether by his attitude or something else, she didn't know.

"Okay, then get ready. It's rare that I'm passing by today, and I suddenly had a change of heart and wanted to save your life, so you should cherish this opportunity."

The woman seemed afraid he would be nervous, so she spoke in a lighthearted tone.

"Yes, young lady, please begin."

Seeing this, the woman said nothing more, picked up the scalpel and heated it over a fire to disinfect it.

After finishing the treatment, she turned around to face him, took off his shirt, opened the acupuncture kit, took out the needles, and pricked several places on his body. Then she picked up the scalpel and began to treat his wounds.

As the woman was about to take action, she couldn't help but say to him, "Bear with it."

He nodded.

The woman then began to take action.

When the scalpel cut open the wound, he was mentally prepared, but he still couldn't help trembling. Cold sweat poured down his forehead, and his facial expression gradually became distorted no matter how hard he tried to control it. He bit his lip tightly and didn't make a sound, afraid of disturbing the woman.

The woman naturally felt the man's uncontrollable trembling shoulders and used one hand to press down on his shoulders.

"Bear with it, I'll get there as soon as possible."

The woman's voice was like a warm spring in the dead of winter, warming his heart.

He nodded and said with difficulty, "Yes, take your time, I can do it."

The woman glanced at the man with some surprise, then continued with her actions.

As for what was in it, he didn't understand.

After more than half an hour of treatment, the woman finally removed the three bullets from his body, bandaged his wounds, helped him put on his clothes, and covered him with a cloak.

"Fortunately, none of these bullets hit any vital organs, otherwise you definitely wouldn't have made it to my place. Get some rest, as long as you get through tonight safely, everything will be fine."

The woman tidied up her belongings and glanced at him not far away.

As if remembering something, she pushed him closer to the fire, seemingly afraid he would get cold, and his heart instantly felt warm.

At that moment, the woman silently entered his heart.

So much so that in the years that followed, she became his salvation, the only one who could pull him out of hell.

In the dead of night, his mind is filled with nothing but her.

For her sake, he endured all hardships to become the ruler of the underground Dark Empire.

All of this was simply to be worthy of her.

Before he knew it, he had fallen into a drowsy state.

When he woke up the next morning, the woman was nowhere to be seen in the room except for the still burning fire.

He struggled to sit up, his body aching all over. He looked around the room before he realized she was gone.

He lowered his head dejectedly. He had even forgotten to ask the woman's name. Finding her in the future would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a piece of paper weighed down by a wooden stick next to where he had been lying.

He knew perfectly well that there was nothing here when he came in yesterday, but then something suddenly occurred to him, and he immediately picked it up.

The note was written in delicate handwriting, yet the ending strokes were casual and unrestrained, seemingly very similar to the woman who saved him.

Thinking of this, the corners of his mouth unconsciously turned up, a faint smile appeared on his face, and the woman's beautiful figure floated into his mind.

After a long while, he carefully read the contents of the note.

“I had to go ahead beforehand. Your physical condition is good; you didn't have a fever, so you can be said to have safely weathered this crisis. The snow outside has stopped. If you go east for about twenty or thirty li, there will be a village. The villagers are kind and honest; you can go there to recuperate. I've left you some compressed biscuits to eat on the road. —Moon”
