Chapter 131 Treatment of Martyrs' Families

After Sun Zongyuan came back, he discussed this matter with Secretary Zhao Yuncheng, and finally formed a report to submit to the county committee, requesting that he be given the treatment of a martyr. At the end, Sun Zongyuan wrote affectionately:

"Don't let the martyrs shed blood and tears. If we don't resolve the issues left over from history, I'm afraid that in three to five years, the martyr's mother will pass away, and the respect her son earned with his life will be gone forever!"

Talking to Zhao Yuncheng about Guo Maohai's resignation as village party secretary, Sun Zongyuan mentioned Guo Maohai's integrity and other advantages. Zhao Yuncheng thought for a while and said:

"Why not assign him a position for a few years? After all, he's an old revolutionary who's been working his whole life. It wouldn't make sense for him to just keep going like this!"

"Secretary, I mean to retire him according to the standards for government officials, and then arrange for him to work as a deputy director of a nursing home or a line leader at a highway maintenance station. This way, he can have work to do and still be away from Xianyuzi, making it easier for Xu Qingjun to do his job."

"I think it's okay. He's worked all his life and hasn't made any mistakes. It's reasonable for him to go through the retirement procedures at his age. As for work matters, I'd better listen to his opinion."

Sun Zongyuan first took the Minister of Armed Forces Gao Jianxiang to the county armed forces department to report the situation of the martyr. When Guo Maohai's oral materials were handed to the staff of the armed forces department, the leaders of the department immediately arranged for personnel to check the files, and soon found the martyr's relevant enlistment information and the battles he had participated in. The last material also mentioned that he was missing due to enemy bombing in a certain encounter. It should be said that it is completely consistent with Guo Maohai's proof materials. The armed forces department and the Civil Affairs Bureau held an identification meeting and believed that the martyr's identity was correct and the proof was sufficient. He could be identified as a martyr. The file also recorded that the martyr had been awarded the third-class merit once, which was fully in line with the relevant preferential policies and regulations.

Next, the leaders of the county armed forces department and the civil affairs bureau ostentatiously hung a glory plaque at the old lady's home, presented her with a martyr certificate, and reissued her martyr treatment. The old lady also enjoyed the courtesy that her son gave her with his life.

Later I heard that the martyr had been married for more than a year before his death. Shortly after the child was born, the news of the martyr's disappearance was received. The martyr's wife remarried. Now the child is 35 years old and has returned to his grandmother to recognize his ancestors. The old lady did not expect that although she did not see her son survive before her death, she still had a grandson. Her hands were shaking with excitement.

The issue of treatment for martyrs was successfully resolved. Guo Maohai was very grateful to Sun Zongyuan. When Sun Zongyuan proposed the principle of retiring from two positions, he chose the position of maintenance line leader under the highway station. He said:

"When I was young, I fired guns and cannons for my country. Now that I'm older, I want to be a stepping stone and make some contributions to the people!"

The cadres at that time were really amazing!

At the village party members' meeting, when Guo Maohai offered to resign and suggested that Xu Qingjun be the new branch secretary, the party members below responded with warm applause!

Xu Qingjun, deputy director of the Xianhonghua Work Area in Honghua Township, also serves as the Party branch secretary of Yuzi Village.

The first thing he did was to report the two activists he had trained for six or seven years to the township party committee through a party members' meeting. After research, the township party committee approved them as probationary party members.

After research by the branch meeting, Xianyuzi Village decided to hire these two relatively young (average age 40) probationary party members to join the committee to help with work.

Xu Qingjun has been working in Honghua Township. Sometimes he is not very clear about the actual situation in the countryside, but with Sun Zongyuan's allocation, he is still very active in carrying out his work.

The first step was to remeasure the collective orchard land of the entire village. The original 420 mu in the accounting books was revised to more than 860 mu. Then, the land was contracted out to all villagers at 20 mu per side and 20 yuan per mu per year for ten consecutive years.

Although these orchards are short of plants and seedlings and their varieties are seriously aging, they are located on the mountainside, the sandy soil is well developed, there is a pond and a large well built during the People's Commune period, and they are located on the sunny slope of the mountain, so the natural environment is still very good.

After rounds of bidding, all the orchards were contracted to villagers in one day, and the village collective income earned 200,000 yuan.

Immediately afterwards, Xu Qingjun took over the 600-meter-long village road leading to the main road, solving the problem of travel difficulties in the village. He also dug a 200-meter-deep well in the middle of the village, solving the water problem for people and livestock in the village.

20 mu of land was newly demarcated in the southwest of the village. The villagers leveled the ground and connected it to tap water. It was used as the village breeding area. Each household concentrated their pig pens and farms here, solving the problem of the village being filled with the stench of pig manure. The village now has more than 160 new pig stocks, which is close to the average of one pig per person.

The village still had 170,000 yuan in its account, but Xu Qingjun had no idea how to use it, so he approached Sun Zongyuan to find a solution.

There is a 130-acre granite mountain on the back mountain of Xianyuzi Village, which can be used for stone processing. However, the time is not ripe now, urbanization has not yet started, and the market is small. Moreover, it will damage the environment. If things go wrong, all the people in the township who have this kind of stone will go to mine it, and the environment of Honghua Township will be as ugly as a dog with psoriasis.

There is timber near the mountains and forests, so you can consider wood processing. However, if this industry takes off, I am afraid that the green mountains in the whole township will become bald mountains. It is difficult to satisfy people's desires when the benefits are there.

Relying on retail trade is not an option either. Who will buy things in a remote mountain village with few people? Can't we take our good things to the market and sell them?

That is the processing industry. It is not possible to compete with Qianhe Food Factory for fruit resources by making canned food.

Well, think about it again, canneries mostly use large fruits with good shapes. The sales market for medium and lower-end fruits is very low, and most of them are wasted. Can they be used?
