"They must have slept together," He Haisheng said dejectedly.
He Zhan glared at his naive nephew with exasperation, "Let's do another paternity test. Words aren't enough."
"Why do we still need a paternity test? Isn't the matter quite clear? Eric has already admitted it." The two spoke slowly for the last few sentences, and Marian understood and immediately questioned them.
“Although our family is not a wealthy or powerful one, we will not readily accept a child based on just one person’s opinion. We will wait for the test results before making any decisions,” He Zhan said in a deep voice.
“…I’ll do it. I’m upright, I’m not afraid of a crooked shadow.” Marian said a nonsensical Chinese proverb. Although she was a little unconvinced, she finally agreed with full confidence.
Seeing her attitude, the He family's hearts sank even further.
He Zhan used his connections and obtained the test results four hours later.
For the next four hours, the whole family waited in the living room without making a sound. Even Juanjuan seemed to sense the heavy atmosphere among the adults and obediently went back to the study to read by herself.
The servants all hid away, none daring to appear in front of their master's house, for fear of becoming the target of his anger.
Only the little boy, who was just over a year old, made a fuss every now and then because he was too young, and even cried twice. Marian was clearly not a good mother, and she didn't have much patience for her son. When the child cried, she would frown and yell at him.
Grandpa He has always loved children. As people get older, they enjoy seeing their children and grandchildren around them. But right now, he can't feel any affection for this blond, blue-eyed foreign kid.
Even though by this point he had almost come to believe that the child was his great-grandson.
It wasn't until the housekeeper brought in the report from the appraisal agency that He Zhan snatched it and examined it carefully. After seeing the conclusion on the report, He Zhan breathed a sigh of relief and handed the report to the old man: "It's not our child."
These words startled everyone in the hall.
The difference was that the He family was pleasantly surprised, while Marian was terrified.
“How could this be! It must be Eric’s child. You’ve got it wrong. You must not want to acknowledge him, so you’ve done something wrong, right?” Marian shouted.
He Haisheng was somewhat dazed, but mostly overjoyed. Hearing Marian's shout, he looked at her with a triumphant and disgusted expression, saying, "Our family isn't like yours, only capable of using dirty tricks. The results are in; this child has nothing to do with me. You'd better leave now and never show your face in front of me again!"
"How could it not be you? There's no one else but you..." Marian muttered to herself, her eyes glazed over.
Her appearance didn't seem fake at all, but the test report couldn't be faked. They took blood from He Haisheng and the child on the spot, and the butler accompanied and supervised the entire testing process, so there was absolutely no chance of a mistake.
He Haisheng narrowed his eyes and looked at Marian with a sneer: "No one else but me? Are you sure?"
These foreigners aren't as conservative as Chinese people. Most of their girls have had sex by the age of thirteen or fourteen. Nobody would believe that Marian has only been with one man!
“But I’ve already had it tested, it wasn’t them!” Marian blurted out.
Only after speaking did she realize what she had revealed, and she quickly covered her mouth with her hand, her eyes filled with panic.
He Haisheng laughed in anger: "So you yourself don't know whose child this is. You just eliminated a few impossible ones, and finally I was the most likely one, so you came knocking on your door?"
