Chapter Thirty-Six: Harvest

Tang Xiaoxiao entered a very busy period.

The cherry orchard on one side of the mountain is almost ripe, and on the other side of the mountain, people are to be hired to plant a large hazelnut forest. There are about five or six acres of land at the foot of the mountain that can be used. She also hired people to build two greenhouses for growing tropical fruits. Because she wanted to simulate a tropical environment in order to avoid suspicion, she put a lot of effort into these two greenhouses.

In addition, she turned the remaining land into a flower bed, planting common flowers such as roses, tulips, and lilies. Tang Rugo has moved here temporarily to live at her grandmother's house in Hou Tang Village, which is very close to the flower bed. Every day, she diligently learns from the workers how to care for and cultivate the flowers, and in her spare time, she focuses on studying flower arranging techniques.

Tang Xiaoxiao could tell that she was very attentive and interested, so she went along with her.

Once the general direction for the mountainous area was finalized, the rest was left to the workers. Tang Xiaoxiao then contacted several designers to draft designs and finally chose her favorite style. Coincidentally, the designer was her high school classmate, and they had studied interior design in college, so there was no barrier between them.

Before long, the workers began construction on the old house.

Regarding Tang Xiaoxiao's decision to move out, although Tang's parents felt that it was fine for their daughter to live at home and there was no need for her to make a fuss, they still expressed their understanding after Tang Xiaoxiao explained the situation.

Children eventually grow up and have to leave home; they'll get married and have children in the future, so it's really inconvenient to live with them all the time. Besides, it's just going back to Houtang Village, not going anywhere far, so they have even less reason to miss it.

As for the Tang family, they moved out of the village many years ago, but now they want to go back. Will people gossip and say that their family is going downhill?

The Tang family responded with a chuckle.

Whose downhill road is one where they keep getting bigger houses and better cars?

Tang Yuanshan had completely bid farewell to his carefree life as a hooligan. Tang Xiaoxiao often had big plans and would always ask him to help. Although Tang Yuanshan himself wasn't very capable, he was able to completely carry out Tang Xiaoxiao's requests, never acting on his own initiative or shirking his duties, and doing his job as a supervisor very well.

Tang Yuanshan was happy with the high reward Tang Xiaoxiao offered. Moreover, his rebellious eldest daughter, who had been a headache for him, was now obediently learning how to grow flowers and plants from Tang Xiaoxiao. Although it was too early to tell what the future held, it was a fact that his family had received a great favor from Tang Xiaoxiao. So recently, he had been praising her to everyone he met, describing Tang Xiaoxiao as unparalleled.

At the end of April, Tang Xiaoxiao's cherry orchard had a bumper harvest.

Cherries normally ripen in mid-May, and are available in large quantities around the end of May. Tang Xiaoxiao ripened them a little earlier, which allowed her to seize the market without arousing too much suspicion. This time, she didn't plan to find anyone to cooperate with. Xu Mingliang couldn't handle her entire cherry orchard, and He Zhan's restaurant didn't sell fruit. So, she simply rented a well-located shop in City A, did some simple renovations, and opened for business with the sign "Xiaoxiao Fine Fruits and Vegetables".

While opening a physical fruit store, she also registered an online store on Taobao, specializing in high-end fruits. Since Taobao didn't yet have a short video shooting function, and fresh fruits and vegetables weren't a popular category, online sales were minimal. To better promote her business, Tang Xiaoxiao hired someone to film her orchard on-site. After post-production editing, the final video featured a vast cherry orchard laden with fruit, each plump, purplish-red cherry looking incredibly juicy, as if a single bite would burst with juice—a truly beautiful scene. She then spent a considerable sum hiring several influential Weibo users to advertise for her. Carefully edited articles combined with highly enticing short videos, along with links to her online store, quickly attracted a large number of orders.

Tang Xiaoxiao still regrets that it's not the era ten years from now when everyone is using short video apps, otherwise the publicity would be much greater than it is now.

Even so, the online store's sales are booming. Tang Xiaoxiao has very high requirements for express delivery. In addition to careful packaging to avoid damage during transportation, she adds sufficient ice packs and protective measures to each out-of-town order to ensure that the fruit arrives fresh and intact in the hands of every customer.

A week later, Tang Xiaoxiao's online store received a lot of positive reviews from customers. Many people said that they had never eaten such fresh and delicious cherries before. In comparison, even those imported from the United States were far inferior. They all regretted that they had not bought enough in their first order.

The price of cherries remains slightly higher, but not as exaggeratedly high as other varieties, which are three times the price. This is because she has basically no investment other than purchasing the fruit trees, and the yield is exceptionally high. Other people's cherry trees, which are four or five years old, only yield a maximum of a little over 100 kilograms, while hers yields almost double that. With such a high rate of return, even though her fruit is particularly plump, juicy, and of excellent quality, she does not sell it at a high price.

The cherries received rave reviews as soon as they hit the shelves in physical stores. Although cherries are a local specialty, they are suitable for all ages, and locals love them. Every year when they first come into season, many people are willing to spend a little more money to try them early. Tang Xiaoxiao's supermarket is simply and cleanly decorated, located at the intersection of a bustling street, occupying a corner position. The large signboard is very eye-catching. As soon as it opened, a large number of cherries were neatly arranged in styrofoam boxes, wrapped in thin plastic wrap. From a distance, the tempting deep red and purplish-black fruits in front of the store attracted a crowd of people to buy them.

Tang Xiaoxiao didn't do everything herself. She hired several quick and eloquent shop assistants for the physical store, two customer service representatives for the online store to answer customer questions, and more than a dozen strong workers for picking and packing in the mountains. She didn't have to worry about anything anymore.
