Chapter Twelve: Past Events

Tang Xinxin couldn't stand this, and the couple soon began arguing and giving each other the silent treatment, which only eased slightly two years later after the birth of Xuanxuan. However, the good times didn't last long. In the summer when Xuanxuan was three years old, Chen Yong's hair salon underwent renovations and upgrades. On the day of its reopening, he invited some relatives and friends, including many of Tang Xinxin's former classmates and acquaintances in the industry. Tang Xinxin was an outgoing person with a wide circle of friends. Although she only entered the industry after marrying Chen Yong, she was responsible for maintaining most of the salon's network of contacts.

During the meal, Tang Xinxin went to each table to offer a toast. A male colleague praised Tang Xinxin a few times, which somehow offended Chen Yong. Ignoring the many people present, he immediately gave Tang Xinxin a hard time.

They barely managed to stay together until the banquet ended. Tang Xinxin was furious, and the two had an unprecedented argument. Tang Xinxin smashed everything in the shop and took Xuanxuan back to her parents' home to file for divorce.

Tang's parents were naturally shocked. Their daughter often came home for meals, and they hadn't noticed anything amiss. How could things suddenly escalate to the point of divorce?

Tang Xinxin had always kept her bitterness to herself, but this time she couldn't bear it any longer and poured out all the grievances she had accumulated over the years. Tang's father silently smoked without saying a word, while Tang's mother, feeling sorry for her daughter, stayed by her side and shed tears. In the end, the elderly couple repeatedly confirmed with Tang Xinxin that she was determined to leave, and when they saw that she was determined to leave, they nodded in agreement.

Normally, this kind of marital discord and argument is nothing unusual in their small town. There are plenty of men who beat their wives, and every family goes through this. But Mr. and Mrs. Tang love their daughter dearly. Their precious daughter suffered injustice in another family, even if it was just verbal abuse. They were heartbroken. Since their daughter insisted that she didn't want to continue the marriage, they decided to get a divorce!

Chen Yong naturally didn't want a divorce, but Tang Xinxin was determined. She told Chen Yong frankly that once the divorce agreement was signed, she wanted nothing but Xuanxuan. If he insisted on staying, she would live at her parents' house until the separation period expired and the divorce was automatically granted. Moreover, Tang Xinxin had a trump card she hadn't told anyone: Chen Yong actually had some kind of erectile dysfunction, otherwise the couple wouldn't have gone more than two years into their marriage before having a child.

The two went to the hospital for a checkup, and Tang Xinxin had the test results. Chen Yong was fertile, but it was a little more difficult than for ordinary people. However, he was completely incapable of bringing happiness to a woman; he couldn't even last a minute or two.

Tang Xinxin had only ever been with Chen Yong. She was completely naive and didn't find anything strange on her wedding night. Later, after hearing a lot of risqué talk among young wives, she understood but didn't pay much attention. Now that she wanted to divorce Chen Yong, this was something she could definitely use as leverage. Even if Chen Yong acted like a rogue and they took it to court, she was confident she could win.

So, whether Chen Yong readily agrees to the divorce to keep all his assets, or insists on staying and ends up losing everything and face, is a choice he can make himself.

After nearly half a year, seeing that Tang Xinxin showed no sign of backing down, Chen Yong finally relented and agreed to the divorce. Tang Xinxin left with nothing, only wanting custody of their daughter.

Ultimately, the reason why the two couldn't maintain their marriage was because of their incompatible personalities. Tang Xinxin took the initiative to file for divorce but also made the biggest concessions. However, the Chen family for some reason started spreading rumors that Tang Xinxin had an affair and that's why she was willing to divorce without dividing the family property.

When Tang's father heard the news, he almost fainted from anger. How dare the Chen family spread such shameless rumors? Did they think Tang Yuanzhou was easy to bully?

In his youth, Tang's father was a troublemaker who caused trouble every few days. Later, he even joined the army and fought in wars. How could Tang's father tolerate the cowardly Chen family daring to talk about people like that? He went directly to Chen Yong's house and gave him and his father a good beating.

The Chen family members didn't dare to stop them at all, only crying and shouting loudly. Looking at the cowardly Chen family, Tang's father spat fiercely, wondering how he could have been so blind as to marry his daughter into such a family.

Tang Xiaoxiao's distant uncle, Tang Yuanshan, who was already a troublemaker, ambushed Chen Yong several times with two drinking buddies, beating him black and blue each time, scaring Chen Yong so much that he didn't dare to go out for a while.
