Chapter Twenty-Two: First Encounter

The girl in front of me was tall and graceful, and her face, which was free of makeup, was as white as snow. Her features were precisely distributed on her small face, which was truly perfect.

It's often said that so-called love at first sight is nothing more than lust at first sight.

For the first time, Han Yunqi felt that he might also be someone who was lustful at first sight.

He wasn't some clueless young man who'd never seen pretty girls before. His college had many art-related majors, and the campus was full of beautifully dressed female students. He himself was quite attractive to young girls, and quite a few girls had expressed their affection for him, both openly and secretly. But none of the so-called class beauties or school beauties could arouse his interest in the slightest.

Both of his ex-girlfriends were pursued by him, and he was too lazy to refuse them. After all, all the guys he hung out with had partners, and with everyone egging him on, he half-heartedly agreed. However, he mostly went through the motions when they were together; he even found playing video games in his dorm more enjoyable than going shopping or to the movies with them. So, both of his ex-girlfriends broke up with him after a short time.

But the moment I saw Tang Xiaoxiao today, an unprecedented surge of emotion welled up inside me. Every cell in my body seemed to leap and throb, clamoring and throbbing, wanting to get closer to her, just a little closer...

Despite it being their first meeting, he felt as if he had finally found the lost light in his life, and his previously colorless life was instantly revitalized by this light.

Faced with this unfamiliar and intense emotion, Han Yunqi was somewhat at a loss. He even had to exert great effort to control his legs to prevent himself from rushing directly to the other person's side.

Tang Xiaoxiao's side was also not calm.

The two people who were once the closest to each other are now strangers when they meet. She can't describe how she feels. Although she saw him in person and was relieved, she still couldn't help but feel sad.

Without lingering any longer, she hurriedly walked to the door, almost fleeing in panic.

Han Yunqi stood there blankly, watching Tang Xiaoxiao's retreating figure, unable to come back to his senses for a long time.

Looking at her silly son's expression, Guo Mingli understood perfectly well. The girl was indeed beautiful, so it was no wonder her son was captivated at first sight.

She slapped her son on the back: "They're nowhere to be seen! Why are you still looking?"

Han Yunqi was jolted back to his senses. Faced with his mother's teasing expression, he gave an awkward smile and, despite his embarrassment, couldn't help but ask, "Who was that just now?"

“They’re just guests who come to browse, I don’t know them,” Guo Mingli said, and as expected, she saw a fleeting look of disappointment on her son’s face.

A guest who just happened to come by... does that mean I might never have the chance to see her again?

Ignoring Han Yunqi's distraught state, Tang Xiaoxiao escaped from the store, got into the car, and leaned back in her seat, taking a while to calm her racing heart.

Since Han Yunqi does exist in this world, she has simply returned to the past. Does this mean that if she doesn't do anything, Han Yunqi will play the "god-slaying" game just like in her previous life, and the two will meet again at the gathering three years later?

And then there's Han's father, a kind and respectable elder. If she could, she would definitely prevent that tragedy from happening six years later.

Looking at the huge "Han's Building Materials" signboard through the windshield, if he could change his father's fate, this shop would always belong to the Han family. His parents, busy with the business, wouldn't interfere much in their son's life. Frankly, his mother wasn't a bad person; she was just a bit controlling and selfish. After losing her husband, she focused all her attention on her son, so naturally she wanted to meddle in everything.

However, Tang Xiaoxiao was not a submissive person. Her parents never made many demands on her. From the moment her mother-in-law first tried to control her to do things according to her preferences, Tang Xiaoxiao developed a rebellious mentality and never compromised. Naturally, the two women were at odds. One thought she was disobedient and unfilial, while the other thought she was meddlesome and nosy.

When the couple got married, the Han family had prepared a wedding house for their son in full, located in a prime location within the first ring road of D City. When the parents of both sides met and talked about the wedding of their two children, Tang's father offered to take on the responsibility of decorating the wedding house, but the Han family refused, saying that since they had bought the house in full, they should also take care of the decoration.

Since the Han family did this, Tang's parents didn't say anything else. However, since the Han family paid for everything, the Tang family didn't ask to add their daughter's name to the property certificate. They only gave a considerable dowry. The young couple had a good relationship, and the parents didn't want anything in return, as long as their daughter was happy.

However, the Tang family's repeated concessions did not make Tang Xiaoxiao's married life much more comfortable.

For the first two years after their marriage, the young couple lived independently. Although they lived not far from Han's parents, they didn't live together and managed to maintain a peaceful coexistence. It wasn't until Han's father had an accident that Han Yunqi couldn't bear to leave his mother alone and brought her to live with them.

Tang Xiaoxiao initially felt sorry for her mother-in-law, but after living under the same roof, problems between the two gradually surfaced.

There is an insurmountable generation gap between the two generations, and their aesthetics are completely different. Tang Xiaoxiao's cozy home, decorated according to her own preferences, is displeasing to Han's mother in every way. She often makes decisions on her own and changes some of the room's furnishings. She even throws away some trinkets that Tang Xiaoxiao likes but Han thinks are ugly.

Looking back on their first argument, it was over something so simple it could be ignored.

Han's mother saw an online article from an expert who said that blackout curtains are not suitable for the living room, as a lack of sunlight is bad for people's health and can also affect the fortune of the house.
