It wasn't until after 9 a.m. the next morning that Tang Xiaoxiao finally got out of bed. She had been busy all night and was exhausted, so she slept soundly. Tang's mother didn't want to wake her daughter and left some warm porridge, side dishes, and steamed buns in a thermos in the kitchen.
After a quick wash, Tang Xiaoxiao went straight to the kitchen. Sure enough, as soon as she lifted the pot lid, she smelled a wonderful aroma. Her mother's habit of saving food for her hadn't changed for years.
Just as Tang Xiaoxiao finished her meal and put down her chopsticks, her parents returned from their walk.
Mr. Tang is now semi-retired and rarely needs to go to work. Every day after breakfast, he accompanies Mrs. Tang for a walk.
Seeing her parents return, Tang Xiaoxiao wiped her mouth, looked up and said, "Mom and Dad, I have something to tell you."
Seeing their daughter's serious expression, the elderly couple exchanged a glance, then calmly sat down on the sofa. Tang's mother asked:
"What's wrong? Why are you so serious? Do you have a boyfriend?"
“It’s not a big deal that you’ve talked about it. You’ve already graduated and you’re not young anymore. Your parents won’t interfere too much with you, so there’s no need to be so nervous.”
"Of course not," Tang Xiaoxiao said, both amused and exasperated, before turning serious. "You all need to be prepared. Let me make it clear first, you're not allowed to insult me."
Hearing her say that, Tang's parents were startled. Tang's father even said directly, "What bad things have you been doing outside? Tell me quickly."
"When I was in school, I saw some classmates buying lottery tickets, and I thought it was exciting, so I bought some too..." Seeing her father's face darken, Tang Xiaoxiao added with a strong survival instinct, "I swear, I only bought them twice! It only cost a few dozen yuan! I definitely didn't waste money!"
"That's all?" Mr. Tang frowned. He clearly didn't believe it was such a small matter. He abhorred gambling, especially towards his children, and had always taught them not to dream of getting something for nothing, but to be down-to-earth. While Tang Xiaoxiao buying lottery tickets wasn't good, it wasn't a huge deal. He gave her a limited allowance each month, and he trusted his daughter wouldn't do anything wrong for money. So, spending a few dozen yuan on lottery tickets didn't seem like a big deal, and he was making a big deal out of it.
However, Tang Xiaoxiao didn't just want to say that. She went straight to the point: "She only bought it twice, and then... she won the lottery, the grand prize, two million."
Mr. Tang's eyes widened instantly. "How much did you say? Two million?"
"Mm." Tang Xiaoxiao nodded gently.
Of course, she didn't win the lottery; she was referring to the money she received from selling ginseng.
The ginseng originally sold for three million, but because she had already spent tens of thousands of yuan, and was afraid that she wouldn't be able to answer her parents' questions about what she had bought, since the items were all stored in her spatial storage, she reduced the amount.
This was a reason she had considered for a long time. She intended to use the money, and she needed a legitimate reason; she certainly couldn't tell the truth. Where did the ginseng come from? Did she go deep into the mountains to dig it up?
Her social circle couldn't be exposed. For an ordinary recent college graduate like her, even if she worked hard at part-time jobs during her school years, how much money could she earn? It wouldn't make sense to say that she earned it through legitimate channels. After much thought, only the idea of a windfall seemed most believable.
Sure enough, after confirming it several times, Mr. and Mrs. Tang finally accepted the fact that their daughter had received a windfall.
Although still shocked, Tang Xiaoxiao took out her phone to show them her bank card balance. When she withdrew money before, she had split it into two bank cards for convenience. One card contained one million yuan for her to use at any time, while the other contained a full two million yuan, which she planned to give to her parents for safekeeping.
Having seen the balance with their own eyes, they had no choice but to believe it.
Tang Xiaoxiao's parents refused her request to give them the money. The elderly couple were always clear-headed and would never make demands under the guise of parental authority. They had two daughters and were always careful not to create any imbalance between them. Tang Xiaoxiao had now graduated from university and was an adult. The money she earned, no matter how much, belonged to her, and they would not touch it.
Of course, there was a lot of earnest advice, and Tang Xiaoxiao was told never to touch lotteries again, for fear that if she tasted the sweetness, she would become uncontrollable. The old couple had been honest and hardworking all their lives, not seeking great wealth or status, only hoping that their two daughters would be safe and sound. Even though they received a sum of money that they couldn't save up in their entire lives through frugality, neither of them felt a trace of greed.
Tang Xiaoxiao is eternally grateful to her parents.
Her parents refused to accept the money, but she didn't insist. Having secured the large sum, things became easier to discuss. Tang Xiaoxiao directly stated that she didn't want to go out to work and wanted to lease a piece of land near her home to start a farming business.
Tang Xiaoxiao had given this decision many days of careful consideration. She wanted to be closer to her parents in this life so that they wouldn't be unable to help her if anything happened. After being reborn, she had the memories of the next ten years, which gave her many options. But after much thought, her greatest advantage was still the magical space she possessed.
Her family has rural household registration and owns a homestead in their hometown. It is also very easy for them to contract land. Although she has lived in the town since she can remember, and the family's farmland was entrusted to relatives in their hometown for management, the whole family has never relied on the land for a living. But now she has space. Compared to going out to work and then bringing her parents to live with her, staying in her hometown is obviously a better choice.
Moreover, the elderly couple were unwilling to leave their hometown. In her previous life, Tang Xiaoxiao invited them to stay at her home several times, but they refused.
