When Director Xue saw Wu Changfeng, he treated him like a family member.
He pulled Wu Changfeng down to sit and started nagging, "Brother, you're something else!"
Director Xue gave a thumbs up to express his admiration: "I feel at ease when you're around. Tell me, why aren't you from Chenshui? How about I transfer your household registration here?"
Wu Changfeng's smile was stiff: "Then you'll have to see if the top leaders of Jiyang Province agree."
"This... we can't beat them." Director Xue laughed heartily: "From the submersible motor factory to the submersible heavy machinery factory, you've been a great help."
“I have been keeping a close eye on your work at the Cangxi Iron Mine.”
"Impressive! You have ideas and the guts to act. You've won over Mine Manager Ren."
Wu Changfeng waved his hand and said in a low voice, "It's just an exchange of benefits."
"Shh." Director Xue put his finger to his lips: "We can only say this between the two of us, we dare not say it in public."
"What are you doing here?"
Wu Changfeng countered, "Then why did you come?"
"Me?" Director Xue spread his hands: "Isn't this obvious? Dahua Steel Plant has just introduced steel rolling technology, and the mainland requires us to make the supporting equipment ourselves."
“We, Chenshui, are the eldest son of heavy industry, so naturally we should be at the forefront.”
"It also falls under my jurisdiction. What about you?"
Wu Changfeng touched his nose: "Me? I came to watch the fun."
"Hehe, Minister Tang sent you, didn't he?" Director Xue asked curiously, "Is there something you need?"
"Nothing, just strolling around."
Wu Changfeng naturally couldn't tell Director Xue beforehand that he was there to cause trouble.
That's not quite right either.
To save face for Jiyang Province.
Um.
The phrase "to save face" is quite good.
After chatting for a while, Wu Changfeng led Lao Zhou and Zhou Huanxiong to their seats in Jiyang Province.
Wu Changfeng did not know or had ever met any provincial leaders.
Director Wang made the introduction.
The senior leader led Wu Changfeng aside and whispered, "Comrade Changfeng, I have to point out something about you. It's been so long, and you haven't even paid me a visit?"
Wu Changfeng said apologetically, "Big boss, please don't be so critical of me. I'm just a nobody; I don't even know which way your office door faces."
"It's impolite of me to visit. It makes me seem like I'm trying to take credit for something I've accomplished."
The big boss chuckled: "You little rascal, you're so glib."
"But your strength speaks for itself. If it weren't for your connections, I wouldn't be here, would I?"
Wu Changfeng immediately understood and said, "Don't worry, sir, I've already made the arrangements."
The senior leader nodded with satisfaction: "Then I won't ask about the process, I'll only look at the result."
"These large companies that lack ambition are not just something I can't stand, you understand?"
Wu Changfeng was taken aback.
So even the top leader was following instructions!
It seems the higher-ups have spoken; this is a good opportunity to clean things up.
We're all just tools!
Wu Changfeng nodded: "Understood, leader. I guarantee I'll put on a good show."
"That's good." The senior leader said, "They're still completely unaware of their deep-seated problems, so it's time to give them a wake-up call."
Then the senior leader patted Wu Changfeng on the shoulder.
On the way back, the senior leader asked again, "By the way, is the responsibility the province has given you too heavy? Should I adjust it for you?"
Wu Changfeng immediately replied with great certainty: "No need for adjustments, lest the work in the province be disrupted again. I'm fine on my end."
"Well done! You are a talented and pragmatic person in Jiyang Province!"
This evaluation...
That's overpraising them!
This made Wu Changfeng feel like a savior.
He's certainly not a savior, but his ability to shine and contribute is still commendable.
Back in the conference room.
Wu Changfeng sat at the very back of Jiyang Province's seat.
At the very front were the top leader and Director Wang's entourage.
Behind them were the factory directors and leading cadres of various large factories in Jiyang Province.
Wu Changfeng, Lao Zhou, and Zhou Huanxiong were in the last row.
Old Zhou was extremely excited.
When and where had he ever seen so many leaders?
Among them were high-ranking officials from Jiyang Province!
Old Zhou whispered to Wu Changfeng, "Impressive! Even the top leader is having a private talk with you."
“Sometimes talking alone isn’t all good,” Wu Changfeng said.
Old Zhou agreed: "Back then, Gu Yuanming had a private talk with me, and he got me involved in the conversation."
"Ha ha."
Zhou Chuanxiong nudged Lao Zhou, then took out a stack of business cards.
Old Zhou made a move to get up.
Wu Changfeng asked strangely, "Where are you going? There's a meeting coming up soon."
"I'll go hand out some business cards; maybe I can land some work. It's a rare opportunity."
"Can't you think like an ape?" Wu Changfeng criticized bluntly, "Everyone here is your colleague. Aren't you trying to snatch food from a tiger's mouth?"
Old Zhou scratched his head in sudden realization: "I got excited. Boss Wu is right, we're all in the same industry."
"Sit still, it will be your turn to play later."
Wu Changfeng continued, "I'm reminding you both again: when necessary, face is worthless."
Old Zhou naturally understood.
You can't do business if you're too thin-skinned.
Thick skin is the most basic requirement.
A short while later.
Minister Tang from the Smelting Department, Director Sun from Dahua Steel Plant, Minister Xu from the Equipment Division, and others entered the conference room.
Factory managers from various provinces who wanted to take on jobs stood up to greet him and get acquainted with him.
Actually, everyone knows each other; it's just a formality.
The leaders of the major factories in Jiyang Province, however, didn't budge an inch.
