Minister Tie said, "Since you're already here, won't you offer me a cup of tea?"
President Li was utterly speechless: "What do you mean? Can I pack you some good tea instead?"
"No need for that," Minister Tie said. "Our tea is quite good too. I'd like to invite you for a cup."
President Li naturally understood what he meant.
The smile on his face vanished: "Minister Tie, you can't just say things like that."
"Then you can't do things that aren't within your job responsibilities."
"Explain yourself!" President Li snapped. "What did I do?"
Minister Tie tapped the book about the stock market: "We have ample evidence that you invested a huge sum of money in the stock market; this is embezzlement!"
"Bullshit!" President Li shouted. "What evidence do you have?!"
"Evidence?" Minister Tie said seriously, "My people are already in the finance department and the treasury. Just wait."
President Li panicked for a moment, but quickly calmed down and laughed, "It's not that I look down on you, but do you think a bunch of police officers can understand finances?"
"I regret to inform you," Minister Tie said, "that our bureau has just established an Economic Crime Investigation Division, staffed entirely with finance graduates from prestigious universities and senior certified public accountants."
“It doesn’t matter if we police officers can’t understand it, there are others who can.”
Sweat rolled down President Li's forehead.
My lips are dry and cracked.
His gaze was somewhat unfocused.
Minister Tie continued to mock, "What, are you going to voluntarily confess and try to get leniency, or are we going to dig it up and punish you severely?"
