Wu Changfeng felt completely bewildered.
Chang Fenfang leaving is her own business.
Wu Changfeng said, "Divorce is their own business. We have no right to interfere, nor do we have the time or inclination to."
Lin Xiaoru shrugged: "I just feel it's a pity. She's such a nice person, cooking for me every day."
Wu Changfeng scoffed and buried himself in packing his things: "Well, I helped her out too."
“However…” Lin Xiaoru said softly, in a very gossipy tone, “The timing of Chang Fenfang’s departure is a bit intriguing.”
"What's wrong?" Wu Changfeng asked.
“A few days ago,” Lin Xiaoru said, “I saw Chang Fenfang squatting in the corner vomiting.”
"They ate something bad."
"Who can eat bad food for several days in a row?" Lin Xiaoru rolled her eyes.
Wu Changfeng's face showed shock, and he exclaimed, "Could it be..."
“Yes!” Lin Xiaoru said, “I also vomited for a while, which was a sign of pregnancy.”
Wu Changfeng was taken aback: "Aren't you overthinking it? You can get a divorce just because you're pregnant?"
“I’m puzzled too,” Lin Xiaoru continued, puzzled. “The couple wanted a child, but who would have thought that Chang Fenfang would get pregnant? She was determined to get a divorce and run away.”
Wu Changfeng exclaimed, "Could it be that Chang Fenfang is carrying a bastard?"
Lin Xiaoru shushed, "Who knows? Anyway, it's pretty unbelievable."
Wu Changfeng nodded: "You really can't judge a book by its cover. Chang Fenfang can still have affairs."
After packing up my things.
Wu Changfeng and Lin Xiaoru simply carried some clothes and walked out of the backyard.
The front yard is very lively now.
It just so happened that the mining bureau was distributing welfare benefits.
The three old men from the management committee are in charge of this work.
There have been quite a few disturbances.
Especially Granny Cao, who kept shouting.
"Even though my son is dead, he deserves benefits! Including my daughter-in-law's share, we want two shares!"
Grandpa Zhang looked constipated: "Don't be ridiculous! The mining bureau doesn't give benefits to the dead. If they did, how many empty salaries would that create?"
"You're talking nonsense!" Granny Cao yelled. "My son died for the mining bureau, he must be punished!"
Grandpa Wang also advised, "It's the New Year, can't we be reasonable?"
Grandma Cao didn't care who it was; if they didn't give out the benefits today, no one could get one: "Who's being unreasonable? Huh! Are dead people just going to die for nothing? Don't ghosts celebrate the New Year?"
Everyone was completely dumbfounded.
This is...
Okay, fine, even ghosts celebrate the Spring Festival, just burn some paper money, okay?
What, are we going to burn all the welfare benefits?
This is absolutely outrageous!
Grandpa Zhang retorted, "Nonsense! The mining bureau's benefits are only for current employees. He's gone, how can he receive them! And your son's name isn't on the list!"
Grandpa Wang said, "Yes, yes, one name corresponds to one benefit, no more, no less, just the right amount. How should I distribute it to you?"
Grandma Cao shouted, "Just add one more!"
Grandpa Zhang was furious: "Isn't this nonsense! Adding one more person doesn't increase the quantity!"
"That's your problem. Who told you not to think about it? And you're blaming me?" Granny Cao continued, "It's because your management is corrupt and incompetent! You don't want to do anything practical for us! You can even get the number of people distributing welfare wrong, what can you do! Useless! Every single one of you is useless!"
Grandpa Zhang and Grandpa Wang were scolded until their faces turned red.
Grandpa Li held the teapot, sipped his tea, and ignored everything.
Grandpa Zhang slammed his fist on the table: "So ghosts are considered people too?"
"What!" Granny Cao shouted, "You're saying my son wasn't human before he died? That's disrespectful to the dead! I'll scratch you to death!"
After saying that, Granny Cao immediately started scratching.
Widow Cao pretended to stop him, but actually scratched at Grandpa Zhang as well.
For Widow Cao, if she could create an extra benefit, that would be ideal.
Even if things don't escalate, it won't make me lose face; it's all my mother-in-law's "good deed."
It has nothing to do with me!
The scene was complete chaos.
The rest of the people waited until the welfare was distributed before returning to their hometowns for the New Year.
Now look what happened, because of Grandma Cao's fuss, not a single welfare benefit was distributed.
Others shouted:
"Can you hurry up! I need to catch my train!"
"Hey, stop messing around, hurry up and give out the perks!"
"It never stops, not a moment of peace."
"Can't the management team do anything?"
"It's so lively! Everyone's waiting to go home for the Chinese New Year!"
Grandpa Zhang was being scratched and ran around wildly by Granny Cao.
Grandpa Wang's lips twitched. This old woman, Cao, was too damn barbaric!
Who said your son isn't human?
Chun Chun is just making excuses to cause trouble!
It was quite a feat to separate the two.
Grandpa Zhang scratched his face raw and scolded Fu Dazhuang, "Why aren't you doing anything about it!"
Fu Dazhuang rolled his eyes: "How am I supposed to manage this?"
"You and Widow Cao are always sneaking around, and you can't even keep her in check?"
"So what if I can control her? I can't do anything about her mother-in-law."
"Hmph!" said Grandpa Zhang, "You're destined to be a punching bag sooner or later!"
Fu Dazhuang scoffed, "Who's the punching bag now?"
It's pointless to talk to me about this.
Grandpa Zhang was exasperated and gave Fu Dazhuang a disapproving look.
Then he shouted at Granny Cao, "Alright, alright! Here's another one for you! Stop making a fuss!"
Grandma Cao laughed, blowing on her fingernails: "If I had known this would happen, I wouldn't have done it in the first place!"
Grandpa Wang was taken aback.
No, if you send out an extra copy, someone else will have one less. Who would want that?
