Chapter 56 Trouble Never Ends (shuhaige.net)

The village chief hurriedly ran back to the Jia family's house.

Wu Changfeng stood under the peach tree, looking helpless.

Lin Xiaoru was still trying to persuade Jia, who was lying on the ground and couldn't get up.

After all, she was her own mother. Blood is thicker than water. If she left like this, the villagers would gossip about her and curse her for being heartless and unjust.

The other relatives split into two groups, one of which attacked the useless Wu Changfeng.

A group of people advised Lin Xiaoru to divorce her husband and marry a rich man.

If a woman as beautiful as Lin Xiaoru doesn't marry a rich man, how can we all rise to the top?

The village chief stepped forward and kicked each of them in the buttocks.

"Village chief, why did you kick me!"

What did I do to offend you?

The village chief, his face stern, immediately erupted in anger: "Get the hell out of here! You're all just sitting around doing nothing. Go work in the fields and stop your crooked ways!"

"You'd rather tear down a temple than break up a marriage, do you have any conscience?"

The others objected: "Village chief, this is a family matter. Aren't you overstepping your bounds?"

The village chief chuckled: "Alright then, I think you can skip irrigating your fields this year. You're all good at spitting, so raising rice seedlings shouldn't be a problem, right?"

"Village chief, this is going too far!"

"How dare you threaten us with this?"

The village chief waved his hand: "Anyone who dares to cause trouble, I'll cut off their water supply! Get out!"

It has to be said that the village chief's authority in the village is absolute.

The relatives cursed under their breath and slunk away.

The village chief then pointed at Jia and said, "Get up right now, or you can forget about me signing off on Lin Xiaotong's homestead for the rest of your life!"

Madam Jia glared at them fiercely: "Are you trying to force us to our deaths?!"

"You're trying to drive Lin Xiaoru to her death!" the village chief said. "Why are you worrying about how she lives? Has she skimped on food or clothing?"

"Get up quickly, don't embarrass yourself."

Jia was so frustrated by being blocked from buying a house that she felt like she was dying. She stood up, seething with anger.

The village chief pulled Wu Changfeng and Lin Xiaoru aside and said, "Let's go, live a good life. I'm looking after you two."

Wu Changfeng smiled and shook hands: "Thank you, Village Chief."

"No need to thank me." The village chief rubbed his hands together. "I can tell you're capable. By the way, the village primary school is about to collapse. Can you think of a solution?"

"I'll talk to the county later," Wu Changfeng said in a low voice. "The county leaders don't like big mouths."

"I understand, I understand," the village chief said with a smile, patting his chest.

Wu Changfeng held Lin Xiaoru's soft little hand: "Let's go home!"
