Chapter 43: Dark Shadows, Awakening Battle of Broken Fate

In the dark forest, the stench of decay grew stronger, like a thick, sickening veil, tightly enveloping this gloomy place. The ground beneath their feet was damp, covered with rotting leaves and sticky, unknown mosses. Every step was accompanied by a puffing sound, as if the earth groaned in pain. The surrounding trees were tall and twisted, their trunks covered with hideous knots, like twisted ghostly faces, looming faintly in the darkness. Strands of grayish-white spider silk clung to the branches, swaying gently in the breeze, as if the tentacles of death were beckoning them.

The footsteps approaching from afar were like heavy hammers, striking at everyone's nervous heartstrings. Lin Yu gripped the weapon tightly in his hand, his joints slightly white from the force. His eyes were as sharp as an eagle, vigilantly scanning the surrounding darkness, trying to catch any sign of danger in this thick night. As the backbone of the team, he knew that he had to remain calm at this moment and not let fear spread. "Everyone stand back to back, be vigilant, and don't act rashly." Lin Yu whispered in a steady and firm voice, bringing a sense of peace of mind to his companions.

Su Yao's body trembled slightly. She pressed tightly against Lin Yu's back, and her hands unconsciously clenched the corner of Lin Yu's clothes. Her eyes were full of fear, and all kinds of terrible pictures kept emerging in her mind. But she knew that in this dangerous place, she could not become a burden to everyone. "Lin Yu, I'm a little scared, but I will try to calm down." Su Yao tried to make her voice sound steady. Lin Yu tilted his head slightly and said gently: "Don't be afraid, I'm here, we will face it together."

Xiao Yi's face showed no trace of fear; instead, it gleamed with excitement. He gripped his weapon even tighter, eager to meet the impending challenge. Born into an ancient demon-hunting family, Xiao Yi had undergone rigorous training since childhood, possessing extensive experience battling all manner of dangerous monsters. This environment, filled with unknowns and challenges, felt like an exciting adventure for him. "Haha, finally, a new opponent. Let's see who's stronger, us or these guys hiding in the shadows!" Xiao Yi's laughter echoed through the silent forest, carrying with it an unbridled sense of pride.

Lu Ming pushed the broken frame of his glasses. Although he could no longer see through them, this habitual action made him feel a little calmer. His brows were furrowed, his eyes full of thought as he tried to recall the information he had obtained from the ancient book, trying to find clues to deal with the current situation. Lu Ming was a genius scholar in the academy, with in-depth research on various mysterious knowledge and ancient runes. "Don't be impulsive, everyone. We don't know anything about the situation here. Any rash action may lead to greater danger." Lu Ming reminded with a hint of caution in his voice.

As the footsteps drew nearer, a figure gradually emerged from the darkness. It was a hunched old woman, her skin shriveled like bark, her eyes gleaming with an eerie green light, and she leaned on a twisted cane. A sickening aura emanated from her, a stench like that from the depths of hell. The air around her seemed to grow even colder with her presence, a chill running down everyone's spines. "You uninvited guests, you have entered this cursed forest. Today is your day of death!" The old woman's voice was sharp and hoarse, as piercing as fingernails scraping against glass.

Lin Yu looked at the old woman warily, secretly guessing her strength and purpose in his heart. "Who are you? Why are you stopping us? We just want to find a way to leave here." Lin Yu asked loudly, trying to get some useful information from the old woman's answer.

The old woman laughed sinisterly, her laughter echoing through the forest and shaking the surrounding leaves. "It doesn't matter who I am. What matters is that you have entered forbidden territory and violated its laws. This forest is the domain of darkness, and any outsider will be devoured!"

Xiao Yi was immediately enraged after hearing the old woman's words. He brandished his weapon and rushed towards the old woman. "Stop playing tricks here, and see how I deal with you!" Xiao Yi's attack was accompanied by a sharp sound of wind, and he chopped towards the old woman's head.

The old woman snorted coldly and gently swung her cane. A flash of black light flashed, blocking Xiao Yi's attack. Xiao Yi was shocked by the powerful force and retreated repeatedly, his arm aching. "With such little ability, you dare to be so presumptuous in front of me?" the old woman taunted.

Seeing this, Lin Yu quickly unleashed his special powers. The colorful light intertwined with the power of the ice element, forming a powerful beam of light that shot towards the old woman. Su Yao also quickly formed seals with her hands behind her, and a defensive shield tightly protected everyone to prevent the old woman from counterattacking. Lu Ming was looking for the old woman's weakness. He found that every time the old woman cast a spell, the crutch in her hand would emit a strange light, as if this crutch was the source of her power.

"Lin Yu, attack her crutch! That might be her weakness!" Lu Ming shouted.

Lin Yu listened, and his heart moved. He concentrated his energy and launched another attack, aiming directly at the old woman's cane. The old woman seemed to sense the danger and wanted to dodge, but Lin Yu's attack speed was too fast, and she had no time to react. The beam hit the cane, and the cane made a crisp sound and a crack appeared.

The old woman screamed, her body swaying, her face a look of anger and fear. "You damned fellows, how dare you destroy my cane! I won't let you go!" The old woman roared madly, and a black mist suddenly surged around her body, and bursts of sinister laughter came from the mist.
