Chapter 219: Not Giving Up an Inch of Gold

Li Cheng's job as deputy director was truly miserable. To others, it seemed as if he was the only one running the office, while Director Yan and Deputy Director Cao seemed non-existent.

This was perfectly normal. A department could only have one person like Li Cheng, and both Yan Hua and Deputy Director Cao were happy to have Li Cheng take the lead. Therefore, Li Cheng was the soul of the office.

This soul figure has to do everything, and all the chores are done by Li Cheng himself.

As a result, Li Cheng came home later and later, and Ai Yi became more and more dissatisfied.

In the past, the two of them could go home and go to work together. It would not be an exaggeration to describe them as flying together and sleeping together.

Now Li Cheng only comes home after Ai Yi falls asleep. When Ai Yi wakes up in the morning, Li Cheng has already left. Ai Yi is very resentful.

Ai Yi was not busy that day, but she did not have time to go upstairs to find Li Cheng, so Ai Yi sent Li Cheng a text message, "Dear husband, I don't know when you came home last night, and I don't know when you left home this morning. I have been alone in the empty room every night. Do you still remember me?"

When Li Cheng received Ai Yi's text, he was working with two other people on a generator repair. A power outage had occurred on a street in the city, leaving two branches without power, and they needed a generator urgently.

These two small generators hadn't been used for a while, and after being taken out of the warehouse, they couldn't even start. Li Cheng saw the text message and smiled.

Then he texted Ai, "My dear, I have just become an official, so I have to work diligently. I hope you will understand if I have neglected you. It's cold today, so please drink more hot water."

Drink hot water, just like hot water can cure all diseases. Ai Yi sent a text message back, "Hot water warms the body but doesn't warm it..."

When Li Cheng saw this text message, his face twitched twice.

Seeing that the two men were still helpless, Li Cheng thought about sending the two generators to the repair shop.

But that would take time, and the outlets were in urgent need of electricity. Li Cheng looked at the structure of the generator and thought that its mechanical principles should be similar to those of motorcycles.

"Oil line, check if there is any oil."

Someone quickly opened the fuel tank cap and looked, "Director Li, there's fuel."

"Unscrew the spark plug."

The man started twisting the spark plug again.

Li Cheng added, "Repair this thing the same way you repair motorcycles."

The two men understood and got busy.

Li Cheng felt that as a man, he should more or less understand some mechanical principles and have some hands-on ability.

These two people are plumbers in the office. They have hands-on skills, but they have never repaired a generator.

Li Chengju felt strange. These two people usually rode motorcycles to and from get off work, and they were plumbers. How come they couldn't repair generators?

"Director Li, the spark plug has been unscrewed."

Li Cheng looked at the spark plug, but he couldn't tell whether it was good or bad.

Li Cheng pretended to be an expert and said, "Changed it."

The two men quickly replaced the spark plugs of the generator.

Then Li Cheng rolled up his sleeves, grabbed the starting rope of the generator and pulled it hard. The generator trembled and seemed to be starting.

Li Cheng pulled it again, and the generator started to roar.

Both plumbers gave Li Cheng a thumbs up, with admiration on their faces.

"Send it over quickly."

After saying that, Li Cheng left.

The plumbers and electricians don’t know how to repair generators. It seems we need to organize them to learn some professional knowledge.

After washing his hands, Li Cheng returned to the office. As soon as he sat down, the landline rang.

Li Cheng picked up the phone and heard that it was Director Yang from the Credit Department looking for him.

"Li Cheng, the battery factory is going bankrupt..."

Li Cheng put down the phone and went to Director Yang.

When Director Yang saw Li Cheng, he placed a document in front of him and said, "The city just sent a notice saying they're going to hold a bankruptcy meeting for the battery factory and they want our branch to send someone to attend."

Li Cheng saw that the meeting was scheduled for tomorrow, so he asked, "Have the battery factory's assets been mortgaged?"

Director Yang nodded and said, "We just completed the mortgage, and the city is about to go bankrupt. It seems that this matter is related to our mortgage."

Li Cheng also nodded and said, "I've disturbed some people's cheese."

Director Yang said thoughtfully, "Yes, it seems someone wants to turn the loan into a bad debt and let the loan rot in this pot."

Li Cheng snorted and said, "If they eat in an ugly way, don't blame us for being ruthless."

Director Yang knew that the battery factory had been closed for a long time, and that workers had been laid off or were seeking their own employment. As long as no one was involved, things would be easier to handle.

Director Yang gritted his teeth and said, "Yes, this time we won't give up an inch of money. Let's see what they say."

Li Cheng glared at him and said with a smile, "Not giving up an inch of gold? Okay, Director Yang, you're right. You've stated our principles."

Director Yang chuckled and thought that too many of the branch's loans had gone bad. If Li Cheng hadn't constantly instilled in him the idea that the bank's money was also the people's money and couldn't just be lost, he would have gone through the bankruptcy liquidation and final write-off procedures this time.

How can ordinary people's money just disappear like that? How can the wealth accumulated through hard work be left to rot in a big pot without any explanation?

"Li Cheng, you and I will go to the meeting together tomorrow."

"Okay, I'll go with you. But I'm quite busy over there, so I'll go make some arrangements first and give you a definite update this afternoon."

After coming out of Director Yang’s office, Li Cheng went to Vice President Fu.

Honestly, she was the person Li Cheng hated to see the most in the entire office. Vice President Fu, who usually had little presence, had become obsessed with aerobics and would jump around the office when no one was around.

Sadly, Li Cheng's office was right below hers. Li Cheng suffered greatly from this and decided to find a more normal hobby for Vice President Fu, or at least a less annoying one.

I knocked on the door, but there was no response. I knocked again, and the jumping stopped.

"Come in."

Li Cheng pushed the door open and saw that Vice President Fu had a rosy complexion, which looked quite nice. It seemed that the aerobics exercises were indeed useful.

Li Cheng smiled and said, "President Fu, you're working out!"

Vice President Fu wiped his face with a towel and said, "Director Li, is there anything wrong?"

Li Cheng smiled again and said, "I heard there's a better way to keep fit, especially for women, called yoga. I wonder if President Fu has heard of it?"

Vice President Fu had heard of yoga, but had only seen it on TV, and there was no one to teach her where she went to learn aerobics.

"Yoga! I saw it on TV. It's really good. It seems that people who practice yoga are more flexible."

"Yes, yes, this woman looks better if her body is more flexible..."

As he spoke, Li Cheng took out a few CDs...
