Chapter 90: Dependence, finally home
"YEAH! I can finally leave this damn place!" A boy shouted without any image: "I have decided that I will not go to a provincial capital university no matter what. It is too dangerous here!"
"Hahaha, I agree." Several others echoed.
"What nonsense! University is very safe. This was an accident. Look how scared you are!" Teacher Ma taught.
Others protested, "The teacher is also scared! And he's still blaming us."
"I"
Listening to their bickering, Zhang Wanwan kept smiling, but her hands and feet were very nimble. When she saw the bus parked outside the hotel, she rushed over with her luggage, put the luggage in the large object storage area under the bus, and was the first to climb on board.
Everyone was shocked by her action, but when they reacted they all burst into laughter. Even Teacher Ma looked at a loss whether to laugh or cry. Although he felt sorry for Zhang Wanwan, her fear of death was too real, without any concealment at all.
Leng Ziyue was the last one to come up. Seeing that no one was sitting next to Zhang Wanwan, he immediately moved over and closed his eyes to rest.
Everyone was tired, and soon after the bus started, they all fell asleep.
Teacher Ma looked around and saw that the students were resting, so he closed his eyes too.
Zhang Wanwan actually slept all the way to Pu City. When she woke up, the sun had already set and the city neon lights were on. She just stretched her arms and legs and found Leng Ziyue sleeping soundly on her shoulder. Her body suddenly stiffened and she dared not move. She could only continue pretending to sleep.
When the car stopped, everyone dived forward due to inertia, and Leng Ziyue woke up.
Zhang Wanwan breathed a sigh of relief and pretended to open her eyes as if she had just woken up. She didn't dare to look him in the eye, but kept looking out the window. She said in surprise, "We're in the city center, we're home!"
"Yes! We are finally here. My old bones are almost numb from sitting!" Teacher Ma sighed and asked the five people behind him, "Where are you going? If you can stop, I will ask the driver to give you a ride."
Zhang Wanwan looked outside and asked, "Teacher, can we park near Century Square?"
Teacher Ma asked the driver, who replied, "Sure, there's a platform over there."
"Then I'll get off over there."
"I'm playing over there too." Leng Ziyue said.
"Okay! Then I'll leave you there. Be careful. Although we're back, we still can't be careless. I hope the police in the provincial capital can catch the guy soon. He really is a psychopath." Teacher Ma started muttering until the bus stopped again.
Zhang Wanwan and Leng Ziyue dragged their suitcases and watched the bus go away before walking towards Zhang's father's stall.
"Leng Ziyue, why don't you go to my parents' place first? I'll treat you to dinner. It's already this late and you can only go to the cafeteria if you go back, right?" Zhang Wanwan asked. She now had some preliminary understanding of Leng Ziyue. She knew that he had been living alone in the VIP rehabilitation ward of the hospital. She didn't know if he had a place to live outside, but if he lived in the hospital, he usually ate the hospital's nutritious meals and had no family to cook for him.
Leng Ziyue did not object, nodded, and followed Zhang Wanwan.
Zhang's father and mother were very surprised to see Zhang Wanwan and his family.
"Didn't you say you would be gone for three days? Why did you come back on the second day? Didn't you play a little longer in the provincial capital?" Zhang's mother asked while busying herself, and at the same time asked Zhang Wanwan to bring Leng Ziyue to sit in the back.
Zhang Wanwan dealt with the matter vaguely and took Leng Ziyue to the back to rest. She only made Leng Ziyue a cup of hot milk and went to the restaurant next door to order food.
Zhang's father took time out of his busy schedule to come and sit with her. When he learned that Leng Ziyue was Zhang Wanwan's deskmate and was participating in the competition like her, he thought that Leng Ziyue was also an excellent student and a model student. He was extremely enthusiastic towards him and asked Zhang Wanwan to get along well with her classmates, which made her speechless. Leng Ziyue, on the other hand, was very kind to Zhang's father. He put away his usual cold demeanor and seemed like a younger generation who was loved by his elders.
Father Zhang was very satisfied with what he saw. He sat with her for a long time until Mother Zhang called him, and then he reluctantly went to help.
The two of them had dinner together in silence. Although the environment was noisy, Zhang Wanwan felt safe and happy. It was quite relaxing to sit and chat with Leng Ziyue like this. He was like an omniscient encyclopedia. Any question you asked him could get an answer, which showed how wide a range of books he had read. Zhang Wanwan sighed again that she was inferior to him. Now she suddenly felt that Leng Ziyue did not try her best in studying, otherwise she would not have been able to take the top position in this grade.
Seeing that it was getting late, Zhang Wanwan sent a message to Tian Sen. Not long after, Tian Sen came over on his motorcycle, sat down, and began to scold Leng Ziyue, "I said that you are becoming more and more inhumane to the opposite sex! You didn't even tell me you were back. I thought you would arrive tomorrow!"
After saying that, Tian Sen looked at Zhang Wanwan flatteringly, "It's still better to be a top student. When you come back, send me a message. You will never forget me when anything good happens."
Zhang Wanwan smiled at him and said, "I'll ask my dad to grill some skewers for you. You can send Leng Ziyue back later."
Tian Sen's smile froze, and he wanted to scream to the sky, "Do you still have any humanity? Do you?"
The answer was the air.
The three of them laughed and joked as they sent Tian Sen and Leng Ziyue away. Zhang's father said to Zhang Wanwan, "Girl, do you want to take a taxi back first? Dad may not close the stall until the early morning."
Zhang Wanwan hesitated for a moment, still frightened by yesterday's experience, but she didn't want to stay any longer and cause trouble for Zhang's parents. She thought that today was Saturday and Zhang Baiyan might come back, so she quickly took out her cell phone and called Zhang Baiyan.
After a while, Zhang Baiyan came over from school in a taxi. When he saw Zhang Wanwan, he was a little confused. "What's the matter with you asking me to take you home?"
"Bai Yan? Didn't you say you wouldn't be back this week? Why did you suddenly come home?" Zhang's mother asked in surprise.
Zhang Baiyan made up an excuse to deal with it and helped Zhang Wanwan put the luggage into the trunk of the taxi. The two left with their parents watching them.
No conversation along the way.
Zhang Baiyan could see that Zhang Wanwan was worried, and seeing that she looked tired, he didn't want to ask any more questions. He sent her home and even boiled a pot of hot water for her. The two of them sat in the quiet living room in silence.
Zhang Wanwan stared at the steaming tea, then suddenly threw herself on Zhang Boyan and hugged his arms tightly, "Brother, can you stay at my house tonight?"
"Has something happened?" Zhang Baiyan's face looked a little solemn. Zhang Wanwan has always been independent, and few things can make her so weak.
After a long while, Zhang Wanwan spoke incoherently about what happened in the provincial capital hotel, with undisguised fear in her eyes, "Brother, the girl who was killed looked similar to me. At two o'clock in the morning on the night she was killed, a strange man knocked on my door. Although I kept telling myself that the two things were unrelated, my reason told me that there couldn't be such a coincidence in the world. How come my door was knocked when something happened to that girl? It was only me!"
