Chapter 30

Chapter 30

Yan Heng stormed out of the palace and headed towards the Golden Phoenix Hall.

He was going to find Huang Shang and kill all those bastards.

Halfway there, a familiar figure blocked my way.

Where are you going?

"I'm going to find Huang Shang."

The newcomer grabbed Yan Heng's hand aggressively and dragged him away from there.

"Why are you grabbing me? Sister! Sister, let me go!"

With no one around, the second princess turned around and slapped Yan Heng.

Yan Heng was a little dazed from the slap. A burning numbness suddenly came from his left cheek, as if he had been burned by a red-hot iron. All he could hear was his own rapid heartbeat. The words he wanted to say were stuck in his throat. His lips moved, but he couldn't utter a single word. He just stared blankly at the other person, and a tear fell down without warning.

The second princess glanced down at her right hand, then regained her composure.

"Have you calmed down?"

Upon hearing Lu's voice, Yan Heng burst into tears.

The second princess immediately hugged Yan Heng, and Yan Heng held on to her tightly.

"Wow~ My sister actually hit me! My sister doesn't like Heng'er anymore!"

The second princess gently comforted Yan Heng, patting his back softly.

"Don't cry, it's my fault."

With the Second Princess's comforting words, Yan Heng gradually stopped crying. The Second Princess then released Yan Heng and pulled him aside to sit down.

"Going to see Huang Shang now is tantamount to courting death."

Yan Heng was suddenly startled and asked incredulously.

"Sister, are you spying on me?"

The second princess nodded.

Yan Heng's voice suddenly became excited.

"Why are you spying on me? Are you afraid I'll betray you, sister?"

The second princess shook her head.

I'm monitoring you to protect you from doing anything foolish.

Yan Heng then became obedient.

"Our country's laws are not easily shaken. I know you disagree, and so do I. Violence, threats, and coercion are punishable by three to ten years in prison. Causing serious injury to a minor only results in a ten-year sentence, and only causing death is punishable by death. But do you know that the usual sentence is only three years? After three years, they can come out and cause trouble again. For the victims, it is a lifelong shadow, deeply etched in their hearts."

"If that's the case, then why did you stop me?"

"What good will it do you go now? How can you and I change the laws of our country? The Empress will ask you, these people were just temporarily blinded by evil and forced others. She was willing to apologize to the victim and had a good attitude, so she was only sentenced to three years."

But what about the men?

"Then let me ask you this: if you kill all those abusers, they'll become even more unscrupulous. Since they'll die anyway if they force themselves on someone, they might as well enjoy themselves for a while. Forcing one person is the same as forcing ten; they might as well exchange one life for ten."

Yan Heng was speechless after being spoken to by the Second Princess.

"Then what do you suggest, sister? What should we do?"

The second princess sighed deeply.

"Actually, I don't know either. I've been thinking about this question for ten years, and I still haven't gotten a satisfactory answer."

“But those people shouldn’t be sentenced so lightly. They can still lead normal lives after they get out, but those who were persecuted by them will never be able to live a peaceful life.”

"We can't let them go unpunished, but we also can't punish them too harshly. Actually, I've always wanted to extend their sentences so that every criminal would have the words 'criminal' branded on their face. If they remain unrepentant, then we should dispose of their tools of crime."

"That's a great idea! I'll go tell Huang Shang right now!"

The second princess immediately stopped Yan Heng.

"Our laws have stood for a century; how can you change them with just a few words? Do you think I haven't discussed this with the Empress? Do you know what she said? She said that even before the throne has been passed to me, I'm already trying to exercise the Empress's rights."

Yan Heng thought of what happened three years ago.

That day, the second princess was punished by kneeling in the Golden Phoenix Palace for a day and a night. The next day, the emperor began to give the eldest princess more important positions.

Yan Heng also knew that this matter should not be rushed, and the Second Princess should not be involved, otherwise her position would be in jeopardy, and she might even be harmed by the First Princess.

"Sister, I understand. I won't be so impulsive again."

The second princess touched Yan Heng's face tenderly.

"Does it still hurt?"

Yan Heng held the Second Princess's hand tightly and smiled.

"It doesn't hurt. I know my sister is doing this for my own good. I will always stand behind her."

If necessary, I will stand in front of my sister. I will do what my sister cannot do. My sister's enemy is my enemy, Yan Heng's enemy.
