Chapter 4
On her way home, Su Wanxing felt increasingly uneasy.
Although there was an income of two taels of silver every day, that was all that could be done.
Damn it, it feels like I've been tricked.
Yao Ji could sell to the highest bidder in her shop, even at ten times the original price.
"Sigh, she's still so naive. But it's not bad that she's willing to sell this milk tea for me."
"Miss, what are you talking to yourself about?"
"It's alright, you know how to make tea, right?"
"Yes, it's very easy, you'll learn it in no time."
"From now on, you shall make ten pots of this every day and send them to Mingyue Pavilion."
"Oh? Miss, making that tea is so tiring. I'm making ten pots a day as you instructed, and my hands are killing me!"
"Why?"
"After adding firewood and boiling four catties of tea, it takes about half an hour of constant stirring. I also have to tidy up the room every day."
Yes, there's no kettle here, so it's really difficult for Chun Tao, a little girl.
"Are there any other people in the manor who don't have anything to do on a regular basis?"
"Now only Steward Chen, one general servant, and Aunt Wu who cooks remain in the manor."
"Huh? My Su residence is quite a large place, how come there are only a few people here?"
"Miss, you've forgotten, you dismissed five servants before to save money on going to Mingyue Pavilion."
Seriously?! I'm speechless!
Forget it, now is not the time to think about these things.
"Chuntao, where can I buy a servant now?"
"What kind of servant would you like to buy, Miss?"
"Um... let me think... I need to buy a man, preferably one who knows some martial arts, so he can protect me."
"Then let's go to the black market."
"A black market? Is there still a black market here?"
"Yes, miss, don't all the bigger cities have black markets?"
"Oh, okay, then let's go quickly."
After an incense stick has burned.
Chuntao brought Su Wanxing to the black market.
Su Wanxing wandered around the black market. She couldn't understand many of the things being sold there. After a while, she saw a vendor with a person inside an iron cage in front of him.
Su Wanxing stepped forward to inquire.
"You must be someone who sells servants."
The stall owner immediately stepped forward to introduce the stall.
"Miss, you're looking to buy slaves, right? I have all the best stuff here. Would you like me to show you around?"
"That works too."
"Miss, look at this."
The stall owner opened the cage and led the man out to Su Wanxing.
"Look at this one, she hasn't even had her coming-of-age ceremony yet, but judging by her looks, she's a top-tier beauty."
What? Doesn't that mean being a minor?
How old is this person?
"Hey kid, the lady is asking you a question."
Out of fear, the man whispered, "Ten, fifteen."
Su Wanxing simply couldn't stand it anymore.
"Boss, how much is he?"
Ten taels of silver
Su Wanxing opened her purse and looked at the money she had finally managed to get from Uncle Chen.
"I'll take this one."
Su Wanxing took out ten taels from her purse and handed them to the vendor.
"Thank you, miss. You have excellent taste."
After saying that, the stall owner was preparing to pack up.
"Hey, wait a minute."
"What's wrong, Miss?"
"Besides this, do you have anything else?"
"Anything else? This is the best one available."
"Stop talking nonsense, our young lady is asking you a question."
"There aren't any other good products left, but..."
"But what?"
"But I still have one cheap one left."
"Take me to see it."
The stall owner packed up his stall and led Su Wanxing to an extremely dirty and messy room.
As soon as she entered, Su Wanxing choked on the dust.
The stall owner lit a lamp and went to a cage.
"Miss, please come and take a look."
Su Wanxing walked around some trash and came to the iron cage.
The man in the iron cage had disheveled hair, was covered in wounds, and was huddled in a corner.
How much is this?
Su Wanxing couldn't bear to see this.
The stall owner quietly approached Su Wanxing and said something.
"Miss, this boy is already nineteen, and... and this boy's body is incomplete."
Incomplete? Could it be the incomplete part I'm thinking of? Sigh, feudalistic thinking is a killer.
"I don't care about any of that. Just tell me, how much?"
The stall owner was pleasantly surprised; he never expected that this product, which had been sitting unsold for so long, would actually be sold today.
"Ten coins, just ten coins!"
Su Wanxing took out nineteen coins from her purse and handed them to the stall owner.
"Isn't he nineteen? I'll give you an extra nine coins."
The stall owner accepted the gift and thanked him repeatedly.
"Thank you, miss. Please come back to me next time you want to buy something; I guarantee it will be the best quality."
Su Wanxing really wanted to reply, but that's just how the world is.
"Hurry up and come out, let's go home with the young lady."
The man stood up unsteadily, and walked out of the cage, leaning on the railing.
Due to long-term malnutrition, it fell forward as soon as it reached the exit, losing its support.
Upon seeing this, Su Wanxing immediately helped him up.
Upon seeing this, the stall owner immediately started cursing.
"How dare you! You defile the young lady!"
"Shut up, he's mine now, how I discipline him is my business!"
The stall owner immediately shut up.
Su Wanxing took the man's hand and helped him up.
"Can you walk with me?"
The man nodded.
With Su Wanxing's help, the four returned to the Su residence.
"Chuntao, you can go down now."
"Miss, are these the two people?"
"fine"
"Alright, miss, I'll be right at the door. Just call me if you need anything."
Su Wanxing only spoke after Chuntao left the house.
"Both of you, stop kneeling and get up."
The two remained unmoved.
Su Wanxing walked towards the underage child and squatted down.
Do you still have family?
The man nodded.
Su Wanxing placed the entire purse in the man's hand.
"This is all the silver I have left. Take this money and go find your family."
The man looked at Su Wanxing in disbelief.
"Take it, or I'll take it away."
The man immediately put away the silver and kowtowed to Su Wanxing.
"Thank you, miss, thank you, miss."
Don't do that.
That could shorten her lifespan.
"Let's go quickly."
The man wiped the tears from his face, took the silver, and quickly left.
