Chapter 11: Stark Contrast

The couple returned to the bedroom. Just as Ye Boxian was about to speak, Shu Yuqing said with a smile, "I know what you're going to say. I just didn't react for a moment. It's good that the child has this idea. It's also a good experience for her. I don't object. I was just worried about her having to go out and hand out flyers in such hot weather."

Ye Boxian gently patted his wife's shoulder. His voice was low, but his tone was unusually firm: "You don't need to blame yourself. There's nothing wrong with your parenting style. I believe that if you had adopted Mingyue in your past life, she definitely wouldn't have repaid kindness with enmity like Jiang Xin."

It's not your fault, you don't need to doubt yourself. Jiang Xin herself has a problem, no matter how much you teach her, you can't teach her well.

"Isn't our youngest daughter all thanks to you? She's only 16 and already thinking about going out to work and build herself up. Even Bei Chen wasn't this sensible at 16."

When talking about her youngest daughter, Shu Yuqing's face was full of undisguised smiles: "I was shocked when she said she was going out to work today. Baekhyun, don't you think she's the daughter God gave us as compensation?"

“It might actually be true. You have no idea how many people outside envy me,” Ye Boxian replied earnestly.

After talking about his youngest daughter, Ye Boxian inevitably thought of his eldest daughter. He sighed heavily, "Raising her has only made her resentful. Since she feels that she is being wronged in the Ye family, let's sever ties with her after she comes of age."

These words made Shu Yuqing feel comfortable. Before she could do anything, Jiang Xin had already ruined herself.

Jiang Xin rested at home for several days. During this time, she did not study. Instead, she stayed in her exquisitely decorated bedroom, drinking the soup that the nanny made for her. She spent her days on her phone, pouring out her heart to Yan Ling, telling him how stifled and frustrated she felt at the Ye family.

She told Yanling that they were still young and she couldn't leave the Ye family yet. Once she came of age, she would be able to make her own decisions, and then they could be together openly.

Yan Ling recalled the disdainful look Shu Yuqing had given him that day, and a wicked smile crept onto his lips. He said to Jiang Xin on the phone, "Are you sure you can break free from their control once you're an adult? What if they send you to university in another city?"

"I'm not going! I want to stay here with you!" Jiang Xin quickly denied his words.

Yan Ling seemed to have completely forgotten that, based on his and Jiang Xin's grades, it was questionable whether they could even get into university.

In their conversation, Shu Yuqing was portrayed as an old witch who had broken up their love.

They will never give in and will fight Shu Yuqing to the very end!

The nanny stood outside the door with a plate of cut fruit, shaking her head. She only knocked and went in after Jiang Xin hung up the phone.

As she was going downstairs, she ran into Ye Beichen. The nanny hesitated for a moment before calling out to him.

The Ye family is very lenient with their servants and pays them high wages. When Wang Ma's family had an accident last time, Shu Yuqing gave her a lot of money.

Shu Yuqing would help any family that encountered difficulties, and the servants in the household were very grateful to the Ye family.

Aunt Chen pulled Ye Beichen into the garden, her face showing a reckless expression: "Xiao Chen, I've watched you all grow up, so I'll take the liberty of calling myself Aunt Chen today."

“Aunt Chen, you are our elder. Are you having any difficulties? Please tell us what’s wrong,” Ye Beichen said with a smile.

"Alright, then I'll be frank. These past few days, Xin Xin has been resting at home, and I've been bringing her food and drinks. I've overheard her making phone calls to others several times, and each time she's speaking ill of Madam to them."

She said the madam controlled her and made her feel oppressed; she said the Ye family caused her pain. In her words, the Ye family had always exploited and coerced her. She never uttered a single good word about the Ye family.

Aunt Chen finished speaking in one breath, then looked at Ye Beichen with a face full of anger: "How could she spread such rumors and slander against Madam and the Ye family!"

Don't laugh at me, but when my own daughter was her age, she was already helping me with housework—washing clothes, cooking, mopping the floor, she could do it all.

Jiang Xin lives like a young lady in the Ye family, yet she complains about the Ye family all the time. She has no conscience at all!

And then there's Madam. These past few days, Madam has been busy with company matters, leaving early and returning late, and I haven't even had a chance to speak to her much. Even though Madam is so busy, she still remembered to tell me to make her some soup to nourish her body. She feels so guilty for how good Madam has been to her.

Aunt Chen's righteous indignation left Ye Beichen speechless. He had no idea that his younger sister harbored such deep resentment towards the Ye family.

After comforting Aunt Chen, Ye Beichen went to find Mingyue near the movie theater. He knew that Mingyue was handing out flyers today, so he went to check on her work.

After searching around without finding his sister, a panda doll suddenly patted him on the shoulder. Ye Beichen looked at the doll in surprise, and before he could ask who it was, he heard the doll say in a clear voice, "Brother!"

The familiar voice made Ye Beichen freeze. He asked the doll in disbelief, "Mingyue?"

The doll opposite him nodded, then pulled him to a secluded spot.

Ye Beichen hurriedly helped his sister remove the hood. Looking at Mingyue, whose face was flushed and covered in sweat, yet who was still smiling and talking to him, Ye Beichen felt a lump in his throat.

"Brother, I'll treat you to ice cream later. I've made quite a bit of money these past few days, and I've already picked out the gifts for Mom and Dad. I'm going to buy Dad a fountain pen, Mom a silk scarf, and treat you and Sister to dinner!" Mingyue told her brother about her plans with bright, sparkling eyes.

Ye Beichen told her to wait there, then quickly went to the movie theater to buy his sister a Coke.

Taking the cola he offered, Mingyue took a big gulp, squinted her eyes in satisfaction, and didn't forget to flatter him: "Brother, you're so good!"

Ye Beichen affectionately touched his sister's hair, which was wet with sweat, and told her not to push herself and to call him immediately if she felt unwell.

He gave Mingyue many more instructions before reluctantly leaving.
