Jiang Xin is back. She bought a baby bottle at the maternity and baby store at the entrance of the community.
Jiang Ru stared in horror at the bag in her hand and blurted out, "How many baby bottles did you buy???"
“I didn’t know what kind of one An’an would use, so I bought one of each model and type.”
Jiang Xin's confident answer left Jiang Ru speechless. She couldn't understand what was going on in Jiang Xin's head; she had actually bought dozens of baby bottles!
Does she think her mother-in-law is some nouveau riche?
Jiang Ru handed the child to Jiang Xin without saying a word, then took the bag to the kitchen to wash the bottles. An'an was starving, and she had no mood to argue with this fool.
I selected a baby bottle, washed it clean, and quickly scalded it with boiling water before scooping out the formula to prepare it.
As soon as An'an saw the bottle, she stopped whimpering and waved her little hands vigorously to express her eagerness. Jiang Ru dripped a drop of milk to test the temperature before putting the bottle into her granddaughter's hand.
Jiang Ru gestured to Jiang Xin to put the child on the sofa and let An'an sit and drink milk by herself.
She had lost count of how many times she had felt helpless against Jiang Xin. Jiang Xin was oblivious to people's moods, couldn't understand pleasant or unpleasant words, and had no regard for other people's feelings.
Seeing her mother-in-law tell her to sit down, Jiang Xin asked in confusion, "Mom, what's wrong?"
"Look at the time!"
"7 o'clock, what's wrong?"
Jiang Ru: "......" I'll endure it!
"Xin Xin, aren't you hungry? Mommy is hungry."
Jiang Ru spoke very directly, afraid that if she didn't make herself clear, Jiang Xin would reply, "She's not hungry."
Sure enough, when Jiang Xin heard her mother-in-law say she was hungry, she realized that it was dinner time and she hadn't cooked yet!
She rushed to the kitchen, saying as she ran, "Mom, could you watch An'an for me? I'm going to cook."
Jiang Ru looked tenderly at her granddaughter who was drinking milk and murmured, "An'an, we mustn't learn your mother's bad habits. It's really worrying me to death. I don't know how Jiang Zhengqing raised his daughter. How could he have given birth to such an oddball?"
Jiang Xin used the leftover ingredients from lunch to make dinner. After Jiang Ru finished eating, she went into her room and locked the door behind her, telling herself that out of sight, out of mind.
None of the family members slept well that night. An'an was in a new environment and there were no familiar people around her, so she made a fuss all night. Yanling's temples throbbed from the noise of the child, and Jiang Xin wasn't much better off. She had just fallen asleep when she was woken up by An'an's crying and barely slept at all.
Jiang Ru could hear her granddaughter crying from next door. She was annoyed by the noise and wanted to rush to the next room to take the child over several times.
But she couldn't do that. Her goal was to make Jiang Xin resent this family and be disappointed in Yan Ling. If she took the child away, Jiang Xin would probably be laughing in her sleep.
The next day, the whole family woke up with the same dark circles under their eyes. Jiang Xin said a few perfunctory words to Yan Ling and then ran to work. She would rather stay at the company than go home.
She never expected a child to have so much energy, crying all day and all night without a moment's rest.
Jiang Ru made a phone call, and an hour later, An'an welcomed her happiness.
Sister Wu is an experienced nanny who specializes in taking care of infants and toddlers for her employers, and her monthly salary is not low.
To support her plan, Jiang Ru readily hired Sister Wu to look after the child, letting the nanny focus on taking care of the child and not worry about anything else.
Jiang Xin almost fell asleep in the office in the morning. She drifted off to sleep at noon without even eating lunch.
The other people in the company whispered among themselves, speculating about what Jiang Xin had done last night, why she had such dark circles under her eyes and looked so tired.
After finally getting off work in the evening, Jiang Xin felt a sense of resistance to going home for the first time. She didn't want to go home and face her daughter. That little thing was like her nemesis, making a mess of her life.
