Just as Jiang Ru thought, Jiang Xin was now in a terrible predicament. As soon as she let go of An'an, the child would start crying loudly.
Jiang Xin had only eaten a few bites when An'an started wriggling all over her, making it impossible for her to eat. Jiang Xin had no choice but to put down her chopsticks and play with her daughter.
No matter how Jiang Xin tried to coax her, An An just wouldn't calm down. Jiang Xin's patience ran out, and she couldn't help but yell at her, "Stop making a scene!"
An'an was startled by her mother's sudden shout and immediately burst into tears. Jiang Xin also shed tears of grievance, and the mother and daughter cried together.
Jiang Xin regretted her actions; she shouldn't have been so stubborn as to take An'an back. The child didn't listen to her at all and just cried all day, which had seriously affected her and Yan Ling's daily life.
She didn't know where things had gone wrong. The person she loved, her lovely daughter, they had a complete family. Wasn't this the life she had always dreamed of?
She is not happy at all now; on the contrary, she feels depressed, stifled, and even has the idea of escaping from all of this.
An'an cried harder and harder, and Jiang Xin, forgetting her own sadness, hurriedly comforted the child.
When Jiang Ru returned, the food was already cold. She noticed that Jiang Xin had barely touched the rice, and a hint of schadenfreude flashed in her eyes. She wondered if her daughter-in-law was satisfied with the real, down-to-earth atmosphere.
Jiang Xin looked at her mother-in-law as if she had seen a savior, and eagerly called out, "Mom!"
Jiang Ru feigned surprise and asked Jiang Xin, "Haven't you eaten yet?"
"No, An'an is making a fuss, so I can't eat."
"Then you go eat, I'll watch the kids."
Jiang Xin thanked her mother-in-law gratefully, handed her daughter over, and got up to eat.
Turning her head, she saw that the food on the table had gone cold, and the pork rib soup was covered with a layer of oil, making her feel nauseous and greasy.
Jiang Xin lost her appetite instantly and silently cleaned up the leftovers on the table.
Jiang Ru spoke up at the right moment: "Xin Xin, the laundry basket in the bathroom is full of An An's clothes that she changed out of today. You should wash them as soon as possible."
Jiang Xin's lips moved slightly, but in the end she said nothing; her once straight back became much more hunched.
After washing the dishes, she went to the bathroom to wash clothes. Just as Jiang Xin was about to put the clothes into the washing machine, her mother-in-law's voice rang out: "Xin Xin, children's clothes cannot be washed in the washing machine; they must be hand-washed."
Jiang Xin replied weakly, "Mom, I understand."
It took nearly an hour to wash the clothes, and Jiang Ru, holding the child, then instructed her to mop the floor.
Jiang Xin was on the verge of a breakdown. There was always endless housework to do, and she was so tired!
"Xinxin, An'an likes to crawl on the floor now, so you need to clean the floor more often. Mom knows you're tired, but it's all for the child's good. You've worked hard."
What else could Jiang Xin say? She could only numbly grab a rag and wipe the floor.
My mother-in-law finally told me to stop after wiping the floor three times.
Jiang Xin felt her legs go weak and her back almost couldn't straighten up, but her mother-in-law kept praising her for being capable and virtuous, so she could only grit her teeth and persevere.
Jiang Ru handed An'an to her, said goodnight to her granddaughter, and went back to her room to rest, completely ignoring Jiang Xin's pleading look.
Jiang Xin's legs felt like they were filled with lead, making every step difficult.
She put the child on the bed, asked Yanling to watch over him, and quickly took a shower.
Sleepiness crept in, and she felt her eyelids grow heavy. Her body instinctively wanted to rest, but An'an was full of energy, and Jiang Xin tried to coax her to sleep for a long time, but she refused.
Jiang Xin couldn't resist the call of the Duke of Zhou (a figure in Chinese mythology associated with sleep) and fell asleep immediately. When An An looked up, she saw Yan Ling sitting to the side, staring at her menacingly. She was so frightened that she pouted and started to cry.
Jiang Xin groggily opened her eyes, reached out and hugged the child, patted her daughter's back with one hand, and murmured, "Sleep."
The perfunctory words had no effect on An'an. She paused for a moment, then burst into a heart-wrenching wail.
Jiang Xin was woken up and said to Yan Ling, "I'm so sleepy, can you comfort her? I have to go to work tomorrow."
“Jiang Xin, other people’s children are all taken care of by their mothers, but she’s not close to me, and no amount of coaxing works.”
"But I can't coax Yanling either. I'm so tired and sleepy. I want to sleep."
"How tired can you be? Everyone goes through this. At least you have a nanny to help you take care of the child during the day. You're just an ordinary person now. You have to get used to this kind of life."
Jiang Xin was on the verge of tears. She didn't want to get used to it! Why should she get used to it!
An'an got hungry in the middle of the night and woke Jiang Xin up. She made formula for the baby with her eyes half open, but fell asleep again before the baby finished drinking the milk.
The child kept making a fuss all night, and Yanling was also annoyed, so he put on his headphones and pretended not to hear.
Jiang Xin called him several times, but Yan Ling didn't respond at all.
The child finally fell into a deep sleep as dawn broke, allowing Jiang Xin to catch her breath and take a short nap.
Jiang Xin felt like she had just closed her eyes when the alarm clock went off, waking the child. An'an's cries were deafening. Yan Ling could no longer control his temper and yelled at Jiang Xin, "Control the child and tell her to stop crying!"
Jiang Xin's eyes reddened, and she choked out, "It's not just my child!"
These words ignited Yan Ling's anger. This child wasn't his, and he wouldn't waste his time on him.
"Which family doesn't have a woman taking care of the children? Everyone else can do it, so why can't you?"
"I……"
"You don't still think you're some pampered young lady waiting to be served, do you? If you feel this kind of life is unfair to you, you can go back to the Ye family and continue being a pampered young lady!"
"No! I just don't know what to do."
Jiang Xin's voice clearly lacked confidence. She dared not argue with Yan Ling anymore and left the bedroom with her child in her arms.
