Chapter 20 Falling in Love at First Sight

Jiang Xin was deliberately ignored. She stood awkwardly to the side, glancing at Shu Yuqing with resentful eyes from time to time, but Shu Yuqing didn't even look at her.

A short while later, the shop assistant politely asked Jiang Xin to leave. Looking at the luxuriously decorated shop, Jiang Xin felt that something had left her.

She returned home dejectedly, her eyes taking in the shabby furnishings of the rented room: the yellowed walls covered in stains, the outdated, drab chandelier, the worn-out, dimly lit fabric sofa, the perpetually dirty floor, and the filthy kitchen.

All of this filled Jiang Xin with grief. Thinking of the villa where she had lived since childhood, the current environment made her feel desperate.

She is the daughter of the Ye family; she should be living a life that everyone envies. Her life shouldn't be like this.

Jiang Xin tossed and turned, unable to sleep, and for the first time, she began to waver in her convictions.

If Yanling hadn't deceived her when she was young and naive, she would still be the noble princess of the Ye family, instead of an ordinary person struggling to make ends meet.

Jiang Xin recalled how she used to be tired of French food, but now even thinking about it felt like a luxury. The days she used to disdain were now an unattainable dream for her.

These days, she has to carefully budget even when going out for a decent meal with her colleagues.

The monotonous work every day had exhausted her energy, but she couldn't afford to lose the job that allowed her to make a living.

When she first returned to China, she was full of enthusiasm and hope, thinking that with her overseas study background, she could have an enviable career after returning.

But as she repeatedly encountered setbacks and discovered that there were countless international students competing with her for the position, her beautiful dreams were shattered.

Without the halo bestowed upon her by the Ye family, she realized just how ordinary she was.

Being kicked out of the Ye family and falling from grace, she paid the price for her willfulness. She lost far too much for Yanling.

Even now, Jiang Xin still doesn't realize her mistake; she pushes all the blame onto Yan Ling.

She felt that Yanling had bewitched her, making her obsessed with love, which was why her parents were disappointed in her. She also blamed Mingyue for stealing her affection and her parents for being heartless towards her.

While waiting at a red light, Jiang Xin saw Mingyue driving a luxury car. Mingyue, with a simple ponytail and light makeup, was holding the steering wheel. Her eyes were bright, and her face showed a confident and composed expression, which contrasted sharply with Jiang Xin's unremarkable appearance.

Jiang Xin stood blankly by the roadside, watching Mingyue pass by. She had heard her colleagues mention that car; it cost seven figures. Jiang Xin's heart felt like it was being gnawed by ants, a dense, throbbing pain.

Thinking about the watch Mingyue was wearing and the necklace she was wearing, and then looking at her own outfit which cost less than 1,000 yuan, Jiang Xin felt very uncomfortable.

For some reason, she felt that was the life she should be living, and that car should have been hers, but now it all belonged to Mingyue, her mother's other daughter.

Jiang Xin's face was twisted with jealousy. Why could Mingyue have it all, while she, Jiang Xin, had to constantly compromise for the sake of life?

Thinking about the endless work, the daily overtime, and the terrible work environment, Jiang Xin felt a little overwhelmed.

At this moment, she not only resented Yanling, but also hated Mingyue. If it weren't for her, her parents would only have her as their daughter, and they certainly wouldn't have given up on her so easily.

Jiang Xin knew Shu Yuqing was heartless, so she decided to start with Ye Boxian. She wanted to go back to the Ye family and stop living such a hard life.

Before she could even put her plan into action, she ran into Yanling at a small restaurant.

That day, Jiang Xin went to a restaurant near the company for lunch as usual. She had just sat down when she looked up and saw Yan Ling coming in from outside.

After several years apart, Yan Ling had shed his youthful naiveté and sported a buzz cut that was a real test of one's looks, but it didn't affect his appearance at all.

His smooth jawline adds to the charm of his handsome features.

The moment Yan Ling entered, he spotted Jiang Xin sitting in the corner. He frowned, his handsome brows furrowing, and a clear look of disgust flashed in his eyes.

Then he turned around and gestured for his colleagues behind him to sit down.

Yan Ling harbored deep resentment towards Jiang Xin. He resented her for leaving without saying goodbye and for abandoning him when he needed her.

However, the moment Jiang Xin saw Yan Ling, she seemed to come alive. She suppressed her restless heart and kept recalling the time she spent with Yan Ling.

When Yan Ling cast a disdainful glance at her, Jiang Xin lowered her head shyly, like a young girl experiencing her first love, not daring to meet his eyes again.
