The issue of sponsoring impoverished students has been resolved, but the matter of Yanling arguing with the principal has not been resolved. As usual, the director criticized Jiang Wei for failing to fulfill his parental obligations by letting a troublemaker into their school.
Jiang Wei was scolded by the director like a grandson, so ashamed that he couldn't lift his head. He listened obediently to the director's teachings, not daring to utter a word of rebuttal, and there wasn't even the slightest expression of impatience on his face.
In contrast, Yan Ling stood aside and listened nonchalantly, even commenting in his mind: "It's always the same few sentences, nothing new."
The director listed a bunch of Yanling's bad behavior at school, and finally softened his tone: "Yanling's parents, you see, this child isn't learning anything at school. Why don't you take him home?"
Jiang Wei looked up in surprise and stammered, "Well, kids his age are all in school. What would he be doing if he didn't go to school? Director, he was wrong this time. He shouldn't have talked back to the principal. I'll definitely give him a good talking-to when we get back! Please, give him another chance!"
Yanling couldn't stand his uncle's humble appearance, so he let out a "tsk" to express his disdain.
"Look, is it because we're not giving him a chance? Do you think he needs this opportunity? Other parents send their children to school to learn knowledge, but what is your child coming to school for? Since he's unwilling to study properly, why keep him in school? You might as well take him home and let him do whatever he wants!"
The director's stern expression made Jiang Wei realize something was wrong. His nephew couldn't drop out of school; if he did, the child would be ruined!
Yan Ling remained unconvinced. This wasn't the first time he'd heard this; the director had said it countless times, yet he was still standing there unharmed.
Once he's finished scolding his uncle and calmed down, the matter will be over. If he's still angry after scolding his uncle, then he can have his aunt come over.
Every time, it was all bark and no bite. He would say he wanted to get out, but as soon as his uncle and aunt pleaded for him, nothing came of it. So Yanling wasn't worried at all. You couldn't even find a trace of panic on his face. He acted as if nothing had happened, coldly watching his uncle grovel and apologize to the director.
The principal was amazed that he had seen something truly remarkable today. This was the first time he had been involved in the affairs of Yanling, a student. In the past, these matters were handled by the director. He had never seen anyone as shameless as Yanling.
His uncle was practically begging and bowing to people at school for his sake, and he still managed to stay composed. He's such a big boy; isn't he supposed to have an exceptionally strong sense of self-respect?
If someone truly had a strong sense of self-respect, they wouldn't have remained indifferent and watched their uncle suffer. If they had a strong sense of self-respect, they wouldn't have repeatedly caused trouble at school, always making their uncle and aunt clean up their messes.
The principal couldn't understand what this uncle was after. He had his own children, yet he was not only excessively kind to his nephew, but also willing to wrong his own daughter for him. Could there really be such a great person in this world?
Jiang Wei pleaded in a low voice for a long time, but the director did not budge. In the end, it was only after the principal spoke up that Yan Ling was let go.
He repeatedly thanked the principal for his leniency and promised that he would strictly discipline Yanling to prevent him from causing any more trouble for the school and teachers.
Yanling was not grateful at all. He looked at his uncle with disdain. Why should he be sacrificed to please these people? He was born this way. If they couldn't keep him in the classroom to study properly, it was the teachers' incompetence. How could they blame him?
If they taught well, I wouldn't be skipping class every day. In the end, it's the teachers who are incompetent and their teaching is boring and tedious, which is why they can't keep students. What does it have to do with me as a student?
