He Wan stayed in the darkness for an unknown amount of time, when she heard a creaking sound.
She looked up and saw a tall man standing in the doorway, backlit, so she couldn't see his face clearly, but she knew this was her only chance.
He Wan practically crawled to the man's side, tearfully recounting her hardships.
“I really don’t know why my ex-husband came here. We’re divorced. And my child is still young; he can’t be without his mother!”
I know I was wrong. I will never appear before you again. Please, please, let me go.
The man in front of me remained silent, as if deep in thought.
Seeing that things were looking promising, He Wan quickly added fuel to the fire.
"I promise I won't utter a single word about what happened tonight! I'll keep my mouth shut! Please, my child can't live without his mother!"
"I don't want to see you in Beijing again, understand?"
The man finally spoke, but not a single word he uttered was something He Wan wanted to hear.
But after years of navigating the social world, she had long understood the rules of survival in this circle: when you're under someone's roof, you have to bow your head.
Only by escaping this calamity can there be a future. She nodded frantically, "I know, I'll disappear as soon as I get out."
Seeing that she knew what was good for her, the man ordered his men to take her phone and instructed, "Watch your mouth after you go out. You know what you should and shouldn't say, right?"
"I know! I know!"
He Wan was already terrified. She didn't dare to have any other thoughts. All she wanted now was to leave this place safely.
"I'm letting you off the hook because your child is still young. I hope you won't disappoint me. You probably don't want to know what I'm capable of."
He Wanren was blindfolded and then led out of the dark room.
She felt like she got into a car, and after about half an hour of driving, she was pushed out of the car. Only when she heard no more noise did she tear off the blindfold.
**
Ever since Jiang Xin learned about her biological father's past with Yan Ling's mother, she has been obsessed, falling into self-doubt and feeling unworthy of being a child.
Before she knew it, she drove to the orphanage again. She really wanted to see her sister and hear how she viewed the matter.
My younger sister has a strong and upright character and cannot tolerate any wrongdoing. She will surely be able to guide me through my difficulties.
Jiang Xin was very lucky today. She had only been at the orphanage for a short while when she saw Mingyue carrying several bags of things into the orphanage.
As soon as Mingyue entered the welfare home, she saw a car parked by the roadside. She recognized the car; Jiang Xin had driven it to come here to find her last time. Hadn't she told her not to come again?
Why won't this person listen to advice at all!
With Jiang Xin outside on her mind, Mingyue chatted with the dean for a while before saying goodbye and leaving.
She walked quickly to Jiang Xin's car, knocked on the window, and then opened the back seat and got in.
"Didn't I tell you not to come looking for me again?"
"There's something I'd like you to analyze for me."
After finishing her statement, Jiang Xin began to recount her complicated relationship with Yan Ling.
"Once upon a time, there was a little girl whose father had an affair when she was young. Her mother, unable to accept the blow, turned her love into hatred and chose to die together with her father."
After the couple passed away, this little girl was left alone in the world. Her father's comrade-in-arms found her in an orphanage and kindly adopted her.
Mingyue knew that the little girl Jiang Xin was talking about was herself.
"Isn't this great?"
Jiang Xin smiled bitterly and continued, "It's quite good, but unfortunately this little girl is an ungrateful wretch."
Her adoptive parents gave her the best life and spoiled her like a little princess.
However, she was not a grateful person. She was not grateful for her adoptive parents' sacrifices at all, and instead felt that they adopted her to gain fame and reputation.
Later, when she was in high school, she met a good-for-nothing hoodlum who spent his days fighting, smoking, skipping classes, and being vulgar.
That petty thug took her to skip school and go to bars. She felt he gave her a new lease on life, so she fell hopelessly in love with him.
Mingyue's face showed a complicated expression. How could things have turned out this way?
How could a girl from a family like Jiang Xin have any dealings with thugs?
This is incredible!
"When the adoptive mother found out about this, she was furious. She wouldn't allow her daughter to associate with such a thug. But girls are naturally rebellious, and the more her mother objected, the stronger her rebellion became."
Ignoring her adoptive mother's advice, she insisted on being with that hoodlum, even at the cost of breaking ties with her adoptive parents.
But now she has learned that the hoodlum's mother is her biological father's mistress.
What do you think she should do now?
Mingyue was completely stunned. She lost her father at a young age and her mother abandoned her, so she longed for family affection. She couldn't imagine that someone would abandon their family for a man.
This is really... hard to explain in a few words.
Moreover, the man's mother was indirectly responsible for the deaths of his parents. What kind of complex emotions were those involved?
"Does that thug know who the girl is?"
Mingyue instantly grasped the crux of the matter and asked a pointed question.
"He knows! He knows!"
Jiang Xin's voice became excited.
"That's deliberate planning. Let me give you an example: many drug users don't know they're using drugs. They unknowingly fall into someone else's trap, then become addicted to drugs."
