Chapter 3 Ideas for Getting Rich

This man is a university professor and also a poet of some renown.

After somehow finding out about her background and overseas study experience, he began to pursue her relentlessly.

My second sister was a poetry enthusiast, and after being captivated by his poems, she was quickly won over and fell in love with him.

A year later, the man proposed to his second sister.

Mr. and Mrs. Zhao respected the second sister's wishes and provided the man with the greatest possible assistance.

With the help of the Zhao family's influence and his second sister's connections overseas, the man successfully achieved his wish and went to the United States to study.

To prevent him from suffering overseas, his second sister gave him almost all of her available funds.

When the second sister, pregnant with her baby, saw the man off, he seemed reluctant to part, repeatedly saying that he would definitely come back before the baby was born.

During their correspondence, the man would ask his second sister for money in various ways, and she always obliged.

But in a reply letter just before his second sister went into labor, the man revealed his true nature.

In his letter, he used every sarcastic tactic imaginable, first mocking his second sister as a spoiled young lady who was ignorant of the ways of the world.

But all the household expenses were earned by the second sister, and the man was able to bury himself in writing poetry because of the second sister's support.

Then he mocked China, saying that the air in the US is free and sweet, and said he would never return to China.

My second sister wrote to him in grief, asking where our child was.

The man said that having a child with her was a disgrace to his life, and told his second sister not to bother him anymore, as he had already found true love in America.

Later, all the letters my second sister sent disappeared without a trace.

The second sister was heartbroken and later died in despair.

Jiang Sheng's thoughts drifted into the distance along with the two figures as they walked away.

Not only the second sister, but the other four sisters also met the wrong men and suffered utter defeats in their love lives.

The eldest sister, Zhao Nianmeng, was a responsible and ambitious woman who served as the factory manager of Hongxing Steel Rolling Mill. During the restructuring of the state-owned enterprise, she was deceived by a scoundrel, causing a significant loss of state assets. The man then disappeared without a trace. Afterwards, she resigned to take responsibility and lived a life of hardship.

The third sister, Zhao Yiyan, was gentle and kind, and taught at a university. She was seduced by a scoundrel's sweet words and became pregnant out of wedlock. Afterwards, the man demanded an exorbitant dowry from the Zhao family. When the third sister refused, the man refused to take responsibility. Not only did the third sister endure the gossip and judgment of society, but her mother also fell seriously ill and passed away a few years later. As a result, the old-fashioned Zhao father severed ties with his third sister.

Seeing the fate of her three older sisters, the fourth sister, Zhao Shuiman, learned from their mistakes and became a staunch advocate of remaining single, not daring to jump into this quagmire.

The four sisters each shone brightly and treated Jiang Shengwu extremely well, but all of them suffered heartbreak in matters of the heart, which is truly regrettable.

Looking out the window at the old Yanjing city, Jiang Sheng silently vowed that in this second life, he would protect his sisters and ensure they lived a happy life, and he would not let them repeat the same mistakes!

With her second sister's matter pressing, Jiang Sheng thought long and hard but still couldn't confront her directly.

The hypocrite hasn't revealed his true nature yet; he's a highly educated young man who's very good at disguising himself, and the eldest sister is quite satisfied with him.

If I were to speak rashly, not only would I be unlikely to gain anyone's trust, but I might also provoke my second sister's rebellious streak and hasten their progress, which would be doing more harm than good.

His eyes flickered as he pondered a solution.

Suddenly, his eyes lit up.

The other party only managed to deceive my second sister by relying on his own talent and the few poems he wrote.

He remembered what his second sister had said earlier: if he wrote a poem, he would ask his friend for guidance. If he wasn't mistaken, that so-called "friend" was this scumbag.

He silently formed a plan in his mind!

Poetry, huh? I'll torture you to death!

He secretly resolved to fight back.

But this is only temporary. The most pressing issue facing us is to strengthen ourselves.

I was just a student about to enter university, and I was powerless to protect my sisters, especially in this era.

Thinking of this, Jiang Sheng felt a strong desire to become stronger!

The simplest way is to make money!

Moreover, it cannot be a long-term benefit; it must be effective in the short term!

Jiang Sheng touched the 230 yuan his family had given him for university living expenses in his bag. It wasn't a lot of money, but it wasn't a small amount either.

In 1984, when the average wage was only a few dozen yuan, this money, if managed well, could be enough to start one's own business.

In this era of scarcity of resources, coupled with the reform and opening up, opportunities were everywhere.

The most fundamental and safest approach is undoubtedly to start with the four basic needs of clothing, food, housing, and transportation.

Suddenly, Jiang Sheng's eyes lit up!

He thought of his second sister's stockings.

Of course, it wasn't about selling stockings. People in that era had a relatively low acceptance of stockings, and since they could only be sold to women, the number of customers was naturally reduced by half.

But socks are a necessity!

Who doesn't own several pairs?

And it even has two seasons, winter and summer!

High demand and wide applicability mean that this market is extremely vast!

Without hesitation, Jiang Sheng locked the doors and windows, rode out on the old bicycle his older sister had specially left for him.

Although I haven't ridden a bicycle in decades, once you learn how to ride one, you'll never forget it.

After wobbling around a few times, Jiang Sheng regained his rhythm.

Riding this old, secondhand Phoenix bicycle, creaking and groaning, I headed toward People's Square.

The sun was still scorching hot all the way.
