They walked to the entrance of the bus station, where Sun Hao said goodbye to the mother and daughter and went back to the bus station to rest.
After Sun Hao left, his mother asked, "I don't feel right. I once asked you if you and Sun Hao were in cahoots to lie to your mother."
Li Yuzhu said, "I've said it before, you're overestimating your daughter. I'm not that familiar with Sun Hao. Can he cooperate with me? This isn't a normal matter. Would he joke about his own marriage?"
"Fine, go ahead and try to outsmart your mother. Let me tell you, girl, don't think I don't know anything. If I can't see through you, you're not my daughter. You can only remarry Dongqing if your mother dies. And tell you, girl, don't go looking for your household registration book when you go back home. It's not even in the house. Forget about it."
"You really are my mother, so go ahead and go against me then."
After Li Yuzhu finished speaking, she carried her son and walked home. Her mother shook her head helplessly and followed her daughter into the family compound.
Back home, Li Yuzhu handed her son to her mother, turned on the TV, and let her mother sit on the sofa to watch TV. Then she went to the kitchen, turned on the stove, and boiled a kettle of water.
After the water boiled, Li Yuzhu brought it to the coffee table, poured a cup of water for her mother and herself, and then sat down next to her mother.
Li Yuzhu said, "Mom, although Dongqing and I are divorced, Yusheng is still his biological son, and his three older sisters are Yusheng's biological aunts. I'm thinking of booking a table at a restaurant for lunch tomorrow so that his family can celebrate his birthday there, what do you think?"
The mother said, "No, at the very least, Dongqing cannot attend my grandson's birthday party. There's no room for discussion on that!"
Li Yuzhu said, "Mom, you're being too domineering. My son is Dong Qing's biological son, why can't he attend his son's birthday party?"
"Fine, I don't care anymore, okay? Out of sight, out of mind. I'll go home tomorrow morning, okay? How could I have given birth to such a troublesome brat like you? Going to sleep."
After speaking, the mother handed her grandson to her daughter, stood up, and walked towards the bedroom.
Dong Sanmei was watching TV in the living room. It was past midnight and her younger brother still hadn't returned. The words "Goodbye" appeared on the TV screen, but her brother still hadn't come back.
So much happened today. She can't sleep until her brother comes home. Where can she go so late?
Dong Sanmei turned off the TV, walked out of the house, locked the door behind her, and turned to walk downstairs.
She walked to the gate of the residential area and stood under the streetlights, looking around.
The streets were deserted, with only the streetlights on both sides of the street, tirelessly guarding the quiet night, radiating a dim light that accentuated the stillness of the night.
Dong Sanmei stood outside the gate waiting. The longer Dong Qing didn't return, the more frightened she became, fearing that something might have happened to her younger brother.
She had no idea where her brother had gone, and there was no clear place to pick him up, so she could only stand outside the gate and wait hopelessly.
Half an hour later, a figure was seen staggering down the street, clearly drunk.
As the figure drew closer, Dong Sanmei realized it was her younger brother who had returned.
She ran over, grabbed her brother's arm, and asked, "Why did you drink so much?"
Dongqing wasn't causing trouble even though he was drunk. He said, "I'm feeling unwell and just want to numb myself with alcohol. Thank you, sister. It's not safe on the streets at this hour, go home quickly!"
Dong Qing had drunk too much and didn't even recognize his sister. After saying that, he stumbled towards the family quarters.
Upon hearing this, Dong Sanmei felt a pang of pain in her heart. She lowered her eyes slightly, tears streaming down her cheeks. Reaching out to her younger brother, she said through tears, "Little brother, look at me carefully. I am your third sister, Dong Sanmei. I know you're upset, but you can't treat yourself like this!"
After hearing this, Dongqing turned around and looked at her third sister, only then recognizing her.
People often lose control when they're drunk, especially in front of family. He threw himself into his sister's arms, crying, "Third sister, what kind of fate do I have? Why is God punishing me like this?"
Knowing that arguing with Dong Qing about his many drinks was pointless, Dong Sanmei said tearfully, "Don't think about anything anymore, come home with your sister."
Dong Sanmei gently pushed her younger brother away from her arms, took his arm and put it on her shoulder, and put her arm around his waist as they walked home.
Back home, Dong Sanmei helped her younger brother into the bedroom, took off his coat and shoes, and helped him lie down on the bed.
Dong Qing drank too much and fell asleep after lying down for a short while.
Seeing her younger brother so drunk, Dong Sanmei was afraid he would drink more alcohol at night, so she went to the bathroom and took a basin into the bedroom.
She was worried about her younger brother, so she laid out a mat in front of his bed in his bedroom, went back to her room to get a pillow and a sheet, and lay down on the floor to sleep fully clothed.
Dong Sanmei had just fallen asleep when Dong Qing's noise woke her up. She saw her younger brother lying on the edge of the bed, looking like he wanted to vomit.
She quickly sat up, picked up the basin beside her, and placed it under her younger brother's mouth. Just as she caught the basin, Dong Qing vomited with a whoosh. Dong Sanmei raised one hand and patted her younger brother's back.
After Dong Qing finished vomiting, Dong Sanmei took the vomit from the basin into the bathroom to empty it and rinsed the basin with clean water.
Usually, once you've vomited the alcohol, you won't vomit anymore. Dong Sanmei went to the kitchen, poured a glass of cold water, and brought it into the bedroom for her younger brother to rinse his mouth.
After her younger brother rinsed his mouth, she asked, "How are you feeling?"
Once she finished vomiting, she felt much more sober. Dongqing said, "I feel much better. I'm sorry to have troubled you, sister. You have to go to work tomorrow. I'm fine now, you should go back to sleep."
Dong Sanmei said, "The past is the past. What's the point of torturing yourself like this?"
"I'm sorry, Yuzhu." Dongqing paused for a moment and said, "Third Sister, please talk to Yusheng's maternal grandmother tomorrow morning. I want to hold a first birthday party for the child, and I hope she can agree to this request. Yusheng is also my own son, and my request is not excessive."
"Okay, I'll talk to Uncle Yusheng about it tomorrow morning. It's getting late, you should go to sleep."
After Dong Sanmei finished speaking, she reached out and helped her younger brother lie down. She then gathered up the bedding, pillows, and sheets from the floor, turned off the light, and went to her own bedroom.
Neither the siblings slept well that night, and they didn't wake up until dawn the next day. A knock on the living room door startled Dong Sanmei awake from her sleep.
She got up, left her bedroom, walked to the living room door, and opened it. She saw Li Yuzhu standing outside, holding her son. She asked, "Sister-in-law, is there something you need so early?"
The three Dong sisters never changed how they addressed Li Yuzhu, except yesterday when they were in front of her mother.
With tears in her eyes, Li Yuzhu said, "My mother has passed away. Have Dongqing make arrangements to hold a first birthday party for my son today."
Dong Sanmei wasn't confused. She knew Li Yuzhu must have caused a scene with her mother so her family could celebrate her nephew's birthday. Otherwise, she wouldn't have left on the child's birthday. With tears in her eyes, she said, "Don't say anymore. I understand everything. Quickly bring your mother back! We'd rather not attend the child's birthday party than let her leave like this!"
