The group walked into the house and sat down on the chairs in the main room.
"Yihan, thank you so much for this time. If it weren't for you, I don't know what would have happened to Bingbing." Zhan Yuying looked at Zhan Yihan with gratitude. Although she didn't understand the law, she knew that her son's crime this time was not a small one.
"Aunt, you don't have to be so polite. This is what I should do." Zhan Yihan said. They are his relatives, and he will definitely help them if he can.
"I know Bingbing has done something serious this time. I'm really sorry for that." Zhan Yuying looked at Zhan Yihan, feeling a pang of guilt. They had asked the village chief, who said that no one could help Bingbing unless he paid back the public funds. That's hundreds of thousands of yuan. Who could come up with that much?
"If aunt continues to be so polite, we will leave." Zhan Yihan said.
"Okay, I won't be polite with you anymore. What do you want to eat for lunch? I'll make it for you. I remember that you loved the pancakes I made the most when you were a child. Do you still like them now?" Zhan Yuying asked with a smile.
"Yeah." Zhan Yihan nodded. As a child, since he was the oldest, his eldest aunt would always leave some pancakes for his younger siblings. When she found out, she would make another one just for him. Life was hard back then, and just having enough to eat at home was a blessing. But whenever they came, her eldest aunt would generously prepare delicious food for them.
"Aunt will make it for you now. Jinyue, what do you like to eat?" Zhan Yuying looked at Su Jinyue.
"I'm fine with it, aunt. Let me help you cook." Su Jinyue stood up.
"You don't need to help. Just sit there. I can do it by myself." Zhan Yuying smiled and walked towards the kitchen.
He Bing came out with a thermos and some ceramic cups, poured a cup of tea for everyone present, and sat down next to He Dagen. "Dad, has Xiu come home yet?"
He Dagen sighed and nodded, "I came back and took her and Qiangqiang's clothes away."
"Didn't she leave any message?" He Bing asked. He knew he had let his wife and son down.
"She told us to take good care of ourselves, saying she wouldn't be coming back and asking you not to look for her again. She also left some money with your mother," He Dagen said sadly. He hadn't seen his grandson for a long time and really missed him.
"How much money did she leave?" He Bing asked, frowning. He had always said that money was like flowing water, something that would come back after it went away, so he had never given his wife any money. Now he thought about how foolish he had been back then, preferring to spend the money on those so-called friends rather than leave it for his wife.
"Three thousand yuan." He Dagen said.
"I'll go find them later," He Bing decided. He would not let Xiuhe and the child down this time.
"Okay." He Dagen nodded with a smile. He didn't ask for anything now, as long as his family lived together in harmony.
After dinner, He Bing went to Liu Lixiu's home. Her home was in the neighboring village, not far away.
Liu Lixiu was drying vegetables in the yard when she heard someone knocking on the door. She called out to her son who was playing nearby, "Qiangqiang, go open the door."
"Okay." Qiangqiang responded, ran over, opened the gate, and when he saw the person outside, a look of surprise immediately appeared on his little face, "Dad!" He hadn't seen his father for a long time.
When Liu Lixiu heard Qiangqiang's words, her body stiffened and the food in her hand fell to the ground without her realizing it.
He Bing picked up Qiangqiang and kissed him on the cheek, "Do you miss your daddy?"
"Yes, I think about it every day." Qiangqiang nodded.
"Where is your mother?" He Bing asked.
"Mom is drying the vegetables over there." Qiangqiang pointed to Liu Lixiu who was not far away.
He Bing looked at Liu Lixiu and walked towards her.
Liu Lixiu came to her senses, stood up and looked at He Bing who was walking towards her, "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to take you and Qiangqiang home. Xiu, I was wronged by you before, but I will definitely treat you well in the future and listen to you in everything."
"I won't go back with you. We are divorced. Go away." Liu Lixiu looked at He Bing coldly, her hands clenched tightly under her sleeves, not allowing herself to reveal her true emotions.
In her heart, she still loved He Bing, but she couldn't go back with him because she had already promised her eldest brother and his wife to remarry Liu Da Nao Tou, a man from the east end of the village. The 3,000 yuan she gave to He Bing's parents was Liu Da Nao Tou's betrothal gift. She didn't know how to help He Bing, but she couldn't just stand by and watch him fall into trouble. So she agreed to remarry and gave all her betrothal gift to He Bing's parents, hoping to do her part.
"I won't leave unless you come back with me." He Bing looked at Liu Lixiu with seriousness in his eyes.
"Get out! I don't want to see you again, and I won't go back with you to live a life where people point fingers at me." Liu Lixiu walked over and pushed He Bing out the door. She had already agreed to remarry and accepted the betrothal gifts, so there was no room for regret.
He Bing hugged Liu Lixiu in his arms and said, "Xiu, I know I have let you down. I will never do this again. Please forgive me this time, okay?"
