The streets are bustling with people coming and going.
Bai Lina sat on a bench in the city center park, staring blankly at the passers-by. All she saw were blond-haired, blue-eyed Europeans, with only one or two Orientals occasionally.
Bai Lina looked up at the bracelet on her wrist, her eyes filled with longing. The bracelet was given to her by Brother Su that day. He said it could protect her when she was in danger. Although she didn't believe the bracelet really had such magical powers, she really liked it.
Bai Lina's eyes were filled with sadness as she gently stroked the jade beads on the bracelet. She planned to send the bracelet back to Brother Su. Although she was reluctant to part with it, she would feel even more sad if she kept it. Every time she looked at the bracelet, her longing for Brother Su grew stronger, and she was afraid she would be unable to resist running back to see him.
"Hello! Are you Chinese?" An oriental man walked up to Bai Lina and looked at her with a smile.
Bai Lina looked up at the oriental man. He had a model-like figure and was very handsome. He was a man full of charm.
Bai Lina looked away and lowered her head to look at the bracelet on her wrist again. She was in no mood to talk to anyone, especially since this was a foreign country.
"Miss, I'm a painter. I just drew a picture for you, and I came here to give it to you." The oriental man smiled and took out a painting and handed it to Bai Lina. The reason he painted Bai Lina was not only because she was oriental like him, but also because of the temperament she exuded, which was tranquil but also tinged with melancholy and sorrow.
Bai Lina looked at the scroll being handed to her, hesitant about whether to accept it. She didn't know the man, so how could she accept his painting for no reason? But he said it was a picture of herself, and she wanted to see it. She wondered if she should just take the painting and pay him.
Thinking of this, Bai Lina reached out and took the other person's painting, "Thank you!" She took out ten dollars and handed it to the other person.
The oriental man shook his head and said, "I draw you because you are an oriental like me, not to make money from you." After saying that, he smiled and walked towards the painting stall not far away.
Bai Lina retracted her gaze and opened the painting in her hand. The painting was very vivid, almost depicting her characteristics. She sighed, rolled it up and put it in her bag. It turned out that even outsiders could see her unhappiness.
Standing up, Bai Lina walked over to the Oriental man's art stall and placed ten dollars on his pile of painting supplies. Although she had just arrived in the United States, she knew that life in the United States was not easy for Chinese people.
"I said I won't take your money." The oriental man took out the money and handed it to Bai Lina.
Bai Lina shook her head and said, "I don't have the habit of accepting other people's things for free." Especially things from strangers.
"Where is he? Catch him!" As the voice sounded, three tall and strong Europeans ran towards the painting stall.
When the oriental man saw the three people, his face changed immediately and he stood up and ran away. Seeing Bai Lina still standing there, he reached out and grabbed her and ran forward.
"What are you doing? Let me go, I don't know you." Bai Lina wanted to break free from her hand, but the other party was holding her hand too tightly, so she could only follow him and run forward.
"Those people are here to collect debts. I'll let you go once we get to a safe place." The oriental man dragged Bai Lina through twists and turns and ran into a street with the words 'Chinatown' written on it.
As soon as she entered the street, Bai Lina immediately felt as if she had returned to China. There were Chinese people with yellow skin and black hair everywhere, and there were all kinds of Chinese restaurants. The words on the billboards on the street were also in Chinese.
She had heard from her aunt that there was a Chinatown in the United States and had planned to visit it in a couple of days, but she didn't expect to end up here this way.
The oriental man pulled Bai Lina into a remote alley and hid in a hidden corner.
Bai Lina shook off the other person's hand and was about to walk out.
But he was pulled back by the oriental man, "Don't go out, you will be caught by those people." He has been in the United States for several years and has earned a little money by painting.
But he was always a little unwilling to accept it. After finally coming to the United States, he could only make a living by painting. What difference was there between this and his life in China? One day, he was chatting with an American friend he had known for a long time. After the friend knew his idea, he told him that there was a place where he could make a lot of money.
So he followed the other party, but he didn't expect that the other party would take him to a casino. He didn't want to gamble at first, but as soon as they arrived at the casino, the girl standing at the door gave him 100 chips and told him that these chips were given to guests for free.
Thinking it was free, he went in and gambled a few times. He didn't know if he was just lucky or if the casino was deliberately trying to let him win, but that time he won quite a bit. And it was because of this that he developed a gambling habit. His losses kept piling up, and not only did he lose all the money he'd saved over the years, he was also deeply in debt. Even when he was setting up a stall now, he had to be constantly vigilant, afraid of being discovered by those people. He longed to find a secluded spot, but remote places simply didn't attract business.
"Why are they arresting me? I don't even know them." Bai Lina angrily shook off the other person's hand and walked out of the alley. This person is really crazy. They don't even know her, why are they dragging her away?
As soon as Bai Lina walked out of the alley, before she could react, a sack was put on her head and then she was carried on someone's shoulders.
"What are you doing? Let me go!" Bai Lina struggled and shouted, but it was of no use.
The Oriental man walked out of the alley. One of the three Europeans walked up to him, patted him on the shoulder, and handed him a hundred dollars. "Well done."
"Thank you!" The Oriental man happily took the money and put it in his pocket. He owed them a lot of money and had no way to pay it back. Just when he was in despair and thought he was doomed, his American friend found him. He told him that if he could complete the task, not only would he not have to pay back, but he would also be paid every time. Of course, he would accept such a good offer.
So he deliberately drew pictures of some beautiful women on the street, and then brought them here under the pretext of escaping, handing them over to the people who caught up with him, and his mission was completed. Although he felt sorry for these women, he had to do it.
