Yang Tao was looking through the files of a recent murder case. When he heard a knock on the door, he answered without even looking up, "Come in!"
The door was pushed open and a young policeman walked in. "Officer Yang, someone is looking for you outside."
"Who is it?" Yang Tao raised his head and looked at the young policeman.
"It was a young girl and a middle-aged man. The girl said that her elder brother was your friend." said the young policeman.
Upon hearing this, Yang Tao immediately guessed who the visitor was. After thinking for a while, he said, "Let them in." Zhan Yeping must have come this time because of Song Yiren's matter. Zhan Yihan was indeed a man who could predict the future.
The young policeman walked out of the office and came to Zhan Yiping and Xu Tiansheng, "Come with me."
"Okay." Zhan Yiping and Xu Tiansheng smiled at each other and followed the young policeman. Yang Tao's willingness to see them gave them a glimmer of hope.
Arriving outside Yang Tao's office, the young policeman knocked on the door. After hearing Yang Tao's response from inside, he pushed the door open and said to Zhan Yiping and the others, "You two can go in."
Zhan Yiping walked into the office and saw Yang Tao walking over with a smile, "Brother Yang, I'm Zhan Yihan's sister Zhan Yiping. Do you remember me? We met yesterday."
"Of course I remember. Please sit down." Yang Tao smiled and pointed to the sofa beside him.
After Zhan Yeping and Xu Tiansheng sat down, Yang Tao poured two cups of tea and placed them in front of them. He looked at Zhan Yeping and said, "What do you want to talk to me about?"
Zhan Yiping nodded and smiled nervously, "Brother Yang, I have something I'd like to ask you for help with. There's a girl named Song Yiren in our village. I heard she was taken to the police station. We'd like to meet her, is that okay? Oh, and the person next to me is Song Yiren's family member."
"Song Yiren?" Yang Tao pretended not to know. After a moment of contemplation, he said, "It seems there is such a person. What crime did she commit?"
"It seems like a murder was hired. That's what the police said when they went to notify us." Zhan Yeping said a little embarrassedly.
Yang Tao nodded in understanding, "This is no ordinary matter."
"Then can we see her?" Xu Tiansheng asked anxiously.
Yang Tao shook his head. "For this kind of crime, you can't have visits before sentencing." He had already promised Zhan Yihan that no one would see Song Yiren. He also had someone increase the police force at the prison, just in case.
"Brother Yang, can you make an exception for me?" Zhan Yiping looked at Yang Tao expectantly. She had never expected Song Yiren's crime to be so serious that she wasn't even allowed to visit.
Yang Tao sighed helplessly, "It's not that I won't help you, I'm just really powerless in this matter. I can't break the rules. You can only see Song Yiren after the sentencing, but you have to be mentally prepared."
Zhan Yeping looked at Xu Tiansheng with some disappointment, "Uncle Xu, I can't help you anymore." She originally thought that as long as she asked, Yang Tao would definitely let them meet Song Yiren for the sake of his eldest brother, but she didn't expect it to be like this.
Xu Tiansheng shook his head dejectedly, looked at Yang Tao and asked, "Chief Yang, can I ask Yiren who she hired to kill?" Even the police station chief couldn't do anything, so what could he do? Yiren! Why are you so confused?
Yang Tao picked up the tea and took a sip, then said slowly: "It seems to be a person named Su Jinyue, but I'm not very clear about the details." Zhan Yihan asked him to tell the truth, some things he would have to know sooner or later.
"What!?" Xu Tiansheng felt as if struck by lightning, his head spinning. How could this be possible?
After Su Jinyue finished examining the patient, she saw that the sky outside was getting dark and it looked like it was going to rain, so she got up and walked into the backyard, intending to put away the herbs that were drying in the yard.
As soon as I stood up, I heard footsteps outside. Thinking there was another patient, I sat back in my chair.
Seeing that the person who came in was Xu Tiansheng, Su Jinyue stood up and walked towards him.
"Master, you're back. Why do you look so bad?" Su Jinyue asked worriedly after noticing Xu Tiansheng's pale face. Did the master already know?
Xu Tiansheng shook his head wearily. "I'm going to get some sleep." He really didn't know how to face Jin Yue. He had raised both of them, and yet he hadn't expected her to hire someone to kill Jin Yue just for Zhan Yihan. How could this make him, as her master, feel?
"Let me help you in." Su Jinyue reached out and supported Xu Tiansheng.
"No need. It's going to rain soon. Go collect the herbs in the yard." Xu Tiansheng withdrew his arm and walked inside with a staggering step.
Looking at Xu Tiansheng's lost figure, Su Jinyue shook her head and sighed. She didn't want to upset her master, but some things couldn't be hidden after all, and it was a good thing to know them earlier. But now that Song Yiren was arrested, what would she do about going to school? She couldn't just leave her master alone.
He shook his head and walked towards the backyard.
Just as I collected the herbs, it started to drizzle.
Su Jinyue glanced at Xu Tiansheng's room, then turned and walked into the kitchen. This incident must have been a huge blow to her master, and she could only hope that she could figure it out sooner rather than later.
Xu Tiansheng lay on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling until there was a knock on the door and he came to his senses.
"Master, it's time for dinner." Su Jinyue's voice came from outside the door.
"Coming." Xu Tiansheng responded, his voice was hoarse and dry, as if squeezed out from his throat.
Su Jinyue looked through the X-ray machine and saw Xu Tiansheng, who seemed to have been drained of all his energy and spirit, and her heart was filled with pain.
Xu Tiansheng opened the door and looked at Su Jinyue outside with complicated eyes, "Let's go, let's go eat." If Jinyue knew that Yiren wanted to kill her, she would be so sad. He absolutely couldn't let Jinyue know about this.
Su Jinyue nodded and stepped forward to hold Xu Tiansheng's arm. "Master, today I made your favorite dish, braised lion's head, and tomato and egg soup. You must eat an extra bowl of rice."
"Okay." Xu Tiansheng forced a smile.
The two of them came to the main hall. After Xu Tiansheng sat down, he looked at Su Jinyue and said, "Jinyue, Master has something to tell you."
"Hmm!" Su Jinyue picked up a braised lion's head with chopsticks and put it into Xu Tiansheng's bowl.
"When Master went to the county for a meeting the other day, he applied for a transfer of personnel. The application was approved yesterday, and they say a village doctor will be dispatched next week to assist Master," Xu Tiansheng said. Neither Jin Yue nor Yi Ren were actual village doctors, but they were worried he wouldn't be able to handle the workload alone, so they kept helping him. He had applied that day because he figured they would both get married sooner or later, so it was better to make arrangements early. Unexpectedly, before he could tell them about this, Yi Ren was in trouble.
