Chapter 9: Rescue

When Su Jinyue ran to Aunt Wu, there were already many people around her, and some people were running towards her.

It is common to encounter snakes while working in the fields, but there are not many poisonous snakes, and snakes generally do not actively attack people.

"Everyone, move aside." Su Jinyue squatted down and rolled up Aunt Wu's trouser leg. She saw that the place on Aunt Wu's calf where the snake had bitten her had become black and swollen. She quickly made a decision and reached out to pull out the belt that Aunt Wu had tied around her waist. She tied it around the thigh of the leg that had been bitten by the snake and tied it tightly to prevent the poison from spreading to the heart.

"Who has a knife?" Su Jinyue asked without even looking up. Now she had to squeeze out the snake venom.

"Is it okay if I have a pencil sharpener?" a villager asked, pulling one out of his pocket. He had brought a sweet potato with him from the fields, intending to share it with his wife when they were thirsty.

"Give it to me." Su Jinyue reached out to take the pencil sharpener, used the knife to cut the wound in a cross shape at the place where the snake bit her, and then began to squeeze the place where her thighs were tied from top to bottom with both hands.

Aunt Wu's entire leg gradually turned purple-red, and dark red blood continued to flow out of the wound.

Su Jinyue kept squeezing Aunt Wu's legs hard, and sweat broke out on her forehead. As time passed, the color of the blood in Aunt Wu's wound slowly changed from dark red to normal red.

Seeing the blood flowing from Aunt Wu's wound return to normal color, everyone's faces showed a look of relief. We are all from the same village, and no one wants to see tragedy happen.

"Look, the blood has turned red. It looks like the venom has been squeezed out."

"Luckily, Dr. Su is here, otherwise Aunt Wu would be in danger this time."

"Yes! Aunt Wu is really lucky!"

"When I ran over just now, I saw the snake that bit Aunt Wu running away. It looked like a ground snake."

Seeing that the snake venom had been almost cleared, Su Jinyue stopped squeezing and breathed a sigh of relief. "Please, everyone, carry Aunt Wu to the clinic. There may still be residual venom in her body."

"Okay!" the villagers responded.

Su Jinyue stood up and immediately felt dizzy. She staggered and fell forward. Her injuries had only just healed, and the massage she'd received from helping Aunt Wu had already drained her energy. It seemed she needed more training before heading up the mountain to collect herbs; otherwise, even climbing the mountain would be a problem with her current strength.

Li Chun'e, who was beside her, quickly reached out to support Su Jinyue, "Doctor Su, are you okay?"

Su Jinyue steadied her steps and shook her head, "It's okay."

Seeing that the two villagers had lifted up Aunt Wu, Su Jinyue also followed.

"Doctor Su, let me support you." Li Chun'e said worriedly. Doctor Su's face did not look very good, and it seemed that his body had not fully recovered.

"Thank you! I'm much better now." Now, except for having little strength, she is no longer as dizzy as before, and she should have no problem walking back to the clinic by herself.

Xu Tiansheng returned home and took off the basket of herbs from his back and handed it to Song Yiren, "Is Jin Yue in the room?"

"She's out." Song Yiren took the backpack and put it on the table. She went to the side to get a bamboo plate for drying medicine and poured the herbs in the backpack into it.

"Gone out? This kid ran outside just after his injury healed." Xu Tiansheng frowned and shook his head.

At this moment, there was a sound of messy footsteps outside, and then two villagers came in carrying Aunt Wu.

"What's going on?" Xu Tiansheng walked forward and looked at Aunt Wu who was being carried. He saw that her face was a little pale.

"Doctor Xu, Aunt Wu was bitten by a snake while working in the fields. Doctor Su has already helped treat her." said one of the villagers.

Xu Tiansheng nodded and pointed to the inner room and said, "Put her on the bed." Except for the first few days when she was seriously injured and slept in the clinic for easier care, Jin Yue had already moved back to her own room.

The two villagers nodded and carried Aunt Wu into the inner room.

Seeing Su Jinyue coming in, Xu Tiansheng smiled with appreciation and said, "Well done." Being bitten by a snake is no trivial matter. If not treated in time, one can be fatal at any time.

Su Jinyue smiled and touched her nose, "Master, I'll go help Aunt Wu treat her wound." Although the poisonous blood had been squeezed out, some follow-up treatment was still needed to prevent the toxin from remaining in the body.

Xu Tiansheng rolled his eyes at Su Jinyue and said, "You look so pale, yet you're still trying to be brave. Go inside and rest. I'll leave this to Master."

"Master is the best!" Su Jinyue gave Xu Tiansheng a playful smile and walked towards her room. She was indeed a little tired!

After returning to the room, Su Jinyue fell asleep.

It wasn't until someone knocked on the door that Su Jinyue woke up dazedly, "Who is it?"

"It's me." Song Yiren's voice came from outside the door.

Su Jinyue frowned, "Is there something wrong?" If she had a choice, she really didn't want to live under the same roof with Song Yiren. Otherwise, when she saw her, she would have the urge to strangle her to death.

"Master asked me to come and call you to dinner."

"Okay." Su Jinyue responded lazily.

Sitting up, getting out of bed, opening the door, and going to the yard to get a bucket of water, Su Jinyue simply washed up and walked towards the main room. The clinic was connected to where they lived, with the clinic in the front and them living in the backyard.

Walking into the main room, I saw Xu Tiansheng drinking. He was used to having a small cup of wine every day. He said that drinking, like life, must be done in moderation and not excessively. Excessive drinking can easily harm the body.

"Master!" Su Jinyue greeted Xu Tiansheng and walked over to her usual seat and sat down. Song Yiren had already served her the meal and placed it in front of her.

The dishes on the table were simple: a plate of peanuts, a braised fish, and two plates of vegetables. But in that day and age, being able to eat these was considered quite good.

Xu Tiansheng took a sip of his wine. "Are you tired today?" When she came back, he saw her pale face. He felt really distressed, but more of a sense of relief. This girl risked her own health to save others, which showed her character.

"Not bad." Su Jinyue picked up the rice and put a vegetable into the bowl. She was very happy that she could save a life.

"You handled it very well this time. Master is very happy." Xu Tiansheng smiled, took a sip of wine, and put a peanut in his mouth.

"Master's happiness is better than anything else, and it was Master's teaching that enabled me to save people, so Master's contribution is the greatest." Su Jinyue winked at Xu Tiansheng playfully.

"Flatterer!" Xu Tiansheng smiled and gave Su Jinyue a cold look, his face full of doting.

"No way! I'm telling the truth."

Watching the interaction between Su Jinyue and Xu Tiansheng, Song Yiren felt a little envious, but more jealous. Her master had never spoken to her in such a tone, let alone with such affection, since she was a child.
