Chapter 31
Su Yuan was watching his daughter's performance closely and gave her a thumbs up: "Miaomiao is awesome. You managed to calm your cousin down without even arguing with her."
"It's just the crazy talk of a child. It's not worth paying attention to. She was at a loss for words after just a few words."
She shrugged indifferently, but made her father laugh. What a child! Isn't she a child too?
August 31st was the day for registration and payment for all schools. In the morning, Su Miao followed his father to the classroom.
As soon as I entered the door, I saw my homeroom teacher, Ms. Meng, who was both familiar and unfamiliar. She was still about 40 years old, wearing gold-rimmed glasses and her hair was combed meticulously.
When I was a child, I thought she was very serious and even a little afraid of her.
As time went by and she gained more life experiences, she finally understood when she grew up that Teacher Meng's strictness actually came from her responsibility to her students.
She treats all students equally so that no child will be left behind.
"Hello, Teacher Meng!"
Teacher Meng raised his head and pushed his glasses habitually, then smiled faintly at his favorite student.
"Hello, Su Miao, how was your summer vacation?"
"I studied hard, helped my father with work, ate delicious food, and did some things I've never done before. This summer vacation was very fulfilling!"
"Excellent! Life is all about experience, and fulfillment is the most precious. But summer vacation is over, so you need to focus on your studies. You'll have the entrance exam next year. Even though you've always been number one, you can't let your guard down."
"Okay! Don't worry, teacher. I will do my best."
Teacher Meng nodded with satisfaction, filled out the information on the registration form, and handed the tuition payment slip to Su Yuanzheng: "Dad Su Miao, this is the payment slip. You need to take it to the Finance Department to pay. Tomorrow is the official start of school. Remember to remind your child to get up."
Su Yuanzheng took the list with both hands and said, "Okay, okay, thank you, Teacher Meng, you've worked hard."
Like the beginning of every semester, the Finance Department was crowded with parents and students who came to pay tuition, and the long line stretched for a long way.
Looking at the anxious parents, Su Miao couldn't help but feel emotional. Parents who love their children will plan for them in the long run. Their current efforts are all for their children to master knowledge and have a good future.
Su Miao and his father waited for an hour before paying the tuition and food fees. Su Yuanzheng folded the receipt and put it in the chest pocket of his shirt, and the registration and payment procedures were completed.
Su Miao was going to school, so her father had to run the self-service porridge stall alone. She was worried and kept nagging about the matter.
"Dad, the daily limit of 30 kilograms of pork offal must not be changed, otherwise you will be too busy. The pickles should be fried every other day as before. If you prepare them the night before, I can help.
When you need to wash dishes after setting up your stall, you can ask a familiar customer to help watch over them. We are all familiar with the workers at the sugar factory, so it won't be a problem. When you come back from closing the stall, you can have a good rest. I will wash the kitchen utensils and tableware when I get back."
Su Yuanzheng smiled helplessly and said, "Alright, alright, just go to school peacefully. Don't worry about other things. Dad can take care of it. Don't worry!"
That night, Su Miao, like countless other students about to start school, suffered from insomnia and only fell into a drowsy sleep around three or four in the morning.
I was woken up by the alarm clock in the morning. When I opened my eyes, it was exactly 7:10. Su Yuanzheng heard the alarm clock ringing and came over to knock on the door.
"Miao Miao, it's time to get up!"
"Dad, I'll get up right away."
Su Yuanzheng had just gone out and brought back all the pig offal, and was washing it in the yard. Seeing his daughter get up, he went to wash his hands and took two boiled eggs out of the pot.
"Dad, I can just eat at school. You don't have to cook breakfast for me."
After paying the food fee, the school provides breakfast and lunch, so Su Miao doesn’t need to eat breakfast before going to school. He can go out after washing up.
Su Yuanzheng stuffed the warm egg into his daughter's hand and said as he pushed the tricycle out, "You're in the growth stage now, so you need to nourish yourself more. I heard that eating an egg and a glass of milk every morning can help you grow taller. We don't have milk right now, so we can just eat eggs."
It takes 30 minutes to walk from their home to Ning County No. 1 Primary School. Su Miao used to get up at six o'clock, but now that his father picks him up on his bike, he can sleep a little longer.
Su Miao sat in the truck bed, peeled an egg and stuffed it into his father's mouth: "Dad, I have to eat breakfast when I get to school. Two eggs are too many. You can have one too."
Ten minutes later, Su Miao arrived at the school gate. Classmates were entering the school one after another. Some were walking, and some were sent by their parents on bicycles. However, most of them were riding 28-inch bicycles. There were not many parents like their family who rode tricycles.
"Miao Miao! Is this your car?"
A girl with a round face, round eyes, and also named Yuanyuan, stood next to the tricycle, looking at it with sparkling eyes.
This is Li Yuanyuan, Su Miao’s elementary school deskmate. She is a very cute and lively girl. Su Miao had a very good relationship with her when they were young.
After entering junior high school, we lost contact because we went to different schools. When I saw her again, she still looked the same as I remembered.
"Yeah, this is my family's car. My dad will pick me up and drop me off at school from now on."
Li Yuanyuan said happily, "That's great! This way you don't have to walk such a long distance every day."
Li Yuanyuan's home is very close to the school, only a ten-minute walk away. She used to feel sorry for her deskmate because she knew that she had to walk forty minutes to get home from school.
"Let's go in quickly. It's been a while since we last saw our classmates."
After saying goodbye to Su Yuanzheng, the two little girls walked towards the school gate hand in hand.
No. 1 Primary School is the best primary school in Ning County, and naturally receives the most subsidies. The school covers a large area, has a newly built teaching building, and has a spacious basketball court and playground.
On both sides of the tall iron gate are snow-white walls, with four words "Study hard and make progress every day" written on each side in red paint.
The school gate is open, as if opening arms to welcome the returning students.
At the gate, several teachers from the Academic Affairs Office held registration books and recorded the names of every student returning to school one by one.
Li Yuanyuan and Su Miao held hands and ran happily towards the school gate. They were carrying heavy schoolbags, but their faces were filled with excitement and anticipation.
The two of them came to the teacher and said in unison, "Good morning, teacher! We are Li Yuanyuan and Su Miao from Class 1, Grade 6."
The teacher found the names of the two little girls next to each other in the notebook, ticked them off, and said with a smile, "Hello, classmate! Welcome back to school!"
Su Miao walked on the campus, and everything around him seemed so friendly.
The teaching building, the playground, the flower beds... these places are all witnesses of her wonderful childhood.
At this moment, those long-lost memories flooded her mind, making her nose sore and her eyes slightly moist.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm her inner excitement. The breeze brushed across her cheeks, bringing fresh air and a hint of coolness.
