The nurse moved quickly, pushing a stretcher out to greet them.
A middle-aged man carried a little boy out of the tractor trailer and ran into the hall.
The boy, about 6 years old, looked very painful and was placed on a flatbed cart, curled up in a ball.
Chen Dayong took the stretcher and pushed it to the emergency room with the nurse.
Li Zheng was already waiting in the emergency room.
Seeing the boy's condition, Li Zheng immediately thought of acute abdomen.
"Doctor, my son Erdan has had stomachache for two days. Just after dinner, he suddenly rolled over in pain..." said the child's mother in a trembling voice.
The boy's face was pale at this time, and beads of sweat the size of beans kept rolling down his forehead.
He held his hands to his abdomen and tucked his legs up to his chest.
"What did you have for dinner?" Li Zheng asked, thinking it might be food poisoning.
The child's mother was a little distracted when she saw the boy.
The child's father quickly replied, "It's just boiled potatoes, fried peppers, and fried fish."
Li Zheng frowned. Among these foods, potatoes were the most likely to cause poisoning.
"Have you all eaten?" Li Zheng asked.
"We ate it, we all ate it, we are fine." The child's father replied.
Since everyone else is fine, it probably isn't food poisoning.
Li Zheng suddenly remembered that the child’s mother said she had been in pain for two days, and he thought about the diseases that children are most likely to get in this era.
Li was about to examine the boy when he suddenly felt nauseous.
Chen Dayong quickly brought the trash can over.
"Wow!"
The boy vomited out a pile of yellow-green stomach contents, and a lot of vegetable leaves could be seen.
After vomiting, the boy's symptoms were slightly relieved.
"Establish an intravenous access and measure blood pressure and heart rate." Li Zheng gave medical orders while undressing the boy.
The moment he saw the belly, Li Zheng's heart tightened, and the other medical staff gasped.
The boy's belly was stretched and shiny, and the blood vessels around his navel were bulging and purple.
"This... ascites is very serious!" Chen Dayong said in a deep voice.
Li Zheng nodded and quickly took out a stethoscope to listen to his abdomen. After listening for 30 seconds, his abdomen was silent except for the occasional "ding-dong" sound of air passing through water.
"Bowel sounds disappear, it's likely intestinal obstruction!"
Li Zheng continued percussion.
"There is obvious mobile dullness and obvious ascites. It is very likely intestinal obstruction with perforation!" Li Zheng quickly made a preliminary judgment.
"What, intestinal perforation? Doctor, you must save him, he is still so young!" the child's mother exclaimed.
"The child's condition is quite dangerous. We must complete the examination as soon as possible. Once intestinal perforation is confirmed, emergency surgery will be required!" Li Zheng said in a deep voice.
"Blood pressure 85/50 mmHg, heart rate 142 beats/minute!" The nurse quickly read out a string of numbers.
"This is a sign of shock. Quick, draw blood to complete the preoperative test, then do an abdominal X-ray and abdominal B-ultrasound!"
Li Zheng said as he and Chen Dayong pushed the cart out, shouting as they ran: "Haiping, help with the hospitalization procedures and notify the operating room for emergency surgery!"
Zhu Haiping also took immediate action, asking the patient's father to go for an examination, and took the patient's mother to the emergency office, where he began to explain the patient's condition and arrange for hospitalization.
Come to the radiology department.
Li Zheng and Chen Dayong immediately completed the standing abdominal X-ray.
Immediately afterwards, Chen Dayong and the boy's father rushed to the ultrasound room, and Li Zheng was waiting for the results.
"The film is out."
The radiologist inserted the X-ray film into the reading light.
When they saw the film, Li Zheng and the radiologist both gasped.
The crescent-shaped translucent band below the gastric bubble looks like a scimitar hanging in the abdominal cavity. This is a typical free gas shadow under the diaphragm and is strong evidence of intestinal perforation.
"This child has a lot of roundworms in his intestines!" said the radiologist.
Numerous cord-like shadows are entangled in the intestine, some of which penetrate the intestinal wall and scatter into a "bean-like" pattern of high-density spots behind the peritoneum. This is another typical image of Ascaris perforation.
"The stomach is full of roundworms!" Li Zheng said, picked up the film and quickly left the radiology department.
Come to the B-ultrasound room.
Inspection in progress.
Li Zheng came to the ultrasound machine, and the ultrasound doctor quickly reported: "Doctor Li, the child has many roundworms in the intestines, intestinal peristalsis has stopped, and there is a large amount of fluid in the abdominal cavity..."
Li Zheng nodded and said, "Please print out the report as soon as possible."
The ultrasound doctor was very efficient and compiled the report in less than a minute.
Li Zheng took the report and quickly explained the child's condition to the father.
The child's father was terrified and knelt repeatedly, begging: "Doctor, you must save the child, you must save him! Erdan is not very hygienic, but he is a good child, obedient and sensible..."
The child’s father didn’t know what to say.
"Don't worry, it's still time for surgery! We just need to cut off a section of intestine!" said Li Zheng.
"Ah? The intestines need to be cut too? Will that have a big impact on the child's body?" the child's father asked nervously.
Li Zheng nodded and said, "Saving his life is the most important thing now. The human intestine is very long, so cutting off a small section won't have much impact. Children have strong recovery abilities, so we'll just give him more nutrition in the future!"
The child's father nodded repeatedly and said, "Then ask the doctor to perform the operation quickly!"
Li Zheng briefly explained the risks of postoperative complications to the child's father, and the child's father expressed his understanding.
"Whether the child lives or dies depends on his fate. Doctors, just do your best!"
The boy's breathing became increasingly rapid and he was on the verge of shock.
Li Zheng and Chen Dayong pushed the cart and ran towards the operating room.
The child's mother was already waiting outside the operating room. When she saw the boy's condition, she burst into tears again.
