Chapter Seventy-Two: The Bewildering Bar

"Hey! You've been asking me for ages, and I still haven't asked you what you do for a living!" Wang Fan was getting a bit Chinese; he'd been the one being asked questions all this time, and he didn't even know what the other person did for a living.

"I was the lead singer in a makeshift band in the countryside. When our band went out of business, I stayed behind, planning to form a performance band to make a living."

"A makeshift band? You want to form a band? Isn't that a bit ridiculous? What can you even do?" Wang Fan looked at Liang Liang with suspicion.

"I know a little about guitar, bass, and drums, but my main skill is singing. Brother Fan, I dropped out of high school before I even graduated. I don't have any other skills besides singing. I can't do anything else, so I can only make a living by singing."

Just because you can sing doesn't mean you want to form a band.

There are tons of people who can sing on the streets, so why don't I see many people renting out bands?

"Haha! Brother, I'm not trying to discourage you, but singing is not an easy way to make a living. Don't even mention you! There are so many talented people around me, and none of them dare to rely on singing to support themselves."

"Just because others can't do it doesn't mean I can't. I believe I can."

Liang Liang's words made Wang Fan secretly purse his lips.

Just because others can't do it doesn't mean you can. Who do you think you are? Who do you think you are?

And here comes another one who doesn't know his place.

When he arrived in Lianwan last year, his thoughts were similar to Liang Liang's. His ideal was to use Lianwan, a prefecture-level city, as a springboard to enter the entertainment industry and become a star.

But in just one year, society cruelly taught him that the right path was to honestly work as a laborer and make a living first.

Otherwise, you won't even have food to eat.

How can you talk about art when you can't even afford to eat!

You can't create art on an empty stomach.

When you have enough to eat and wear, you can still set aside some energy to pursue your hobbies.

Yes! It's a hobby.

Wang Fan has now turned his ideal into a hobby; he plays with it when he has time and ignores it when he doesn't.

"Do you really think you can do it?" Out of consideration for being from the same hometown, Wang Fan didn't say anything too offensive.

He would have walked away long ago if it were anyone else; chatting with such an idiot is simply a waste of time.

This is the unique pride and dignity of those who haven't yet been hardened by life.

But pride and dignity are worthless; if you don't eat for three days, all pride and dignity will be thrown to the winds.

"I have confidence in myself."

"Hehe! Okay! I have a 4 a.m. shift tomorrow, so I'll take you out for a spin tonight and let you see the world."

Wang Fan used a nice-sounding phrase, but what he really meant was, "Let's see what you're really made of to dare to boast so much."

"When should I come to see you?"

"It'll be around 5 p.m., going earlier won't help."

"Thanks, Brother Fan." Liang Liang took out a pack of Shilin cigarettes from his pocket and put it into Wang Fan's pocket.

This kid knows how to handle things.

It was only a little past ten o'clock when Liang Liang left Wang Fan's dormitory. After thinking for a moment, she went to Tianjing Street.

This was the most bustling commercial street in Lianwan City at the time, with shops lining both sides of the street like a galaxy of stars.

Liang Liang had little interest in clothing, shoes, hats, or hardware and sundries; he specifically browsed the cultural and educational goods stalls, especially audio-visual products.

Without the internet, he would have to rely on audio tapes to fully understand which entertainment stars had disappeared and which were still around.

He mainly collected this information by taking songs from other people's homes when they were alive.

It's not a big deal to take it out; as long as the other party hasn't finished composing the piece, he's not afraid. If the other party hasn't finished it, then if he does, it's his.

What he was worried about was that the person was still alive and had even created the piece. He felt ashamed that he had created the piece without knowing it and then claimed to have made it.

That's not just embarrassing, it's downright humiliating, it's embarrassing enough to be seen across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

If he had known in advance which celebrities had appeared and which hadn't, this blunder wouldn't have happened.

Although the audio tapes cannot represent the whole picture, they can still give a general idea.

For this purpose, Liang Liang also bought a notebook and a fountain pen specifically for taking notes.

In Hong Kong, all four of the Heavenly Kings named last year are still present, along with key figures like Li Qin and Lin Xiang. The female stars also seem to be thriving.

On the Green Island side, key players such as Liu Wenzheng, Gao Lingfeng, Tong Ange, Qi Qin, and Wu Anjie are all present.

This is a bit unfair. Why are there so many singers from Hong Kong and Taiwan, except for a few, while so many are missing from the mainland?

Is it simply because the arts and entertainment industry in Hong Kong and Taiwan was more developed than that in mainland China during this period?

From the moment Liang Liang entered until four o'clock in the afternoon, he spent all his time at these audio-visual product stalls, without even having lunch.

Feeling she had memorized most of it, and seeing that it was almost five o'clock, Liang Liang put away her notebook and pen.

At this time, there were very few people in the commercial street, and some shops had already begun to pack up.

Liang Liang felt hungry, so he bought a pancake roll with shredded potatoes from a small stall to tide him over. There was basically no proper food in the bar; besides drinking, there were snacks and the like, which couldn't be eaten as a meal, and he didn't have much of an appetite for them.

After finishing his meal, he boarded a bus heading to the staff dormitory of Hongxing Machinery Factory and appeared outside Wang Fan's dormitory ten minutes before five o'clock.

"Have you eaten? If not, let's go out and get something to eat, it's on me!"

"We've already eaten in the cafeteria, let's go now."

Liang Liang, who had just gotten off a bus, got on another bus, changed buses once, and finally arrived at the seaside.

This is NG District of Lianwan City, right next to the Yellow Sea. As soon as Liang Liang got off the bus, he could smell the faint sea breeze.

The two walked for five or six minutes along a street that didn't seem particularly bustling, until they finally arrived at a bar decorated with a wave pattern on its exterior.

Two symmetrical waves surround the blue gate, above which a steel-welded plaque reads "The Lost Bar".

The decoration and name are confusing.

Since there are already two waves, why not give it a name related to ocean waves? What's with this confusion?

Feeling lost just looking at the waves?

The lobby of the Confused Bar is not as big as the Maritime Dance Troupe; Liang Liang calculated that it is only a little over 200 square meters in area.

In addition to the bar and wine cabinet, there is a small stage and several rows of chairs.

Although the walls were covered with pictures of rock stars from both China and abroad posing with musical instruments, Liang Liang didn't feel any particular excitement about the atmosphere.

When he and Wang Fan came in, there were only two long-haired guys in the bar playing some incomprehensible tune, either a guitar or a bass.

Beside them were two girls whose faces were painted so thickly they looked like monkey butts.

Liang Liang immediately recognized the two girls as Guo'er.

He couldn't help but shake his head.

Chinese rock music has never been able to gain mainstream acceptance, which is arguably its own doing.

If the government allows someone to play with fruit while playing with lycopied leaves in public, wouldn't that be absurd?
