Chapter Forty-Eight: The Boy Learning Guitar

Liang Liang was unaware of Hou Caixia's current situation; he simply made his demands based on the essence of the song.

He believed that given Hou Caixia's understanding of the song, she could have performed it even better, even more hysterically.

Since this song is called "Crazy for Love," it should naturally be a bit crazy. If it's not crazy, what kind of crazy is it?

Perhaps touched by something in her heart, or perhaps the addition of the band stirred her emotions, Hou Caixia finally sang out the kind of frenzied feeling that Liang Liang wanted during her first rehearsal with the band.

Especially in the last line, with some off-key notes, he sang out the broken feeling that Liang Liang wanted to convey.

Liang Liang nodded. That's right. Liang Liang didn't think the original singer's singing style was good. It was mainly because the singing lacked passion.

Liang Liang felt a little tired, and he thought of going outside for some fresh air.

"Sister Caixia's song basically meets my requirements. You guys help her get familiar with it a bit more. I'm going outside for some fresh air."

Liang Liang stepped out of the greenhouse, stretched, nodded to a few members of the song and dance troupe who were enjoying the cool shade outside, and then walked towards the street. His mind was a bit muddled from listening to music all afternoon, so he wanted to get some fresh air on the street.

Oriental Park is a relatively remote small park in Landi City. The location of Bi Sheng's dance troupe's tent is more than ten meters away from the main street that runs through Landi City.

The billboard for Bi Sheng's dance troupe stands right on the street.

Liang Liang's purpose was to sit in the shade under the billboard for a while and clear her mind.

The billboard for Bi Sheng's new dance troupe is quite impressive. Liang Liang is holding his bass like Rambo is holding a machine gun, exuding a spirit of courage and determination.

The bowl was very full.

He was surrounded by several beautiful women, which perfectly created a passionate and exciting atmosphere.

There were indeed people stopping under the billboard, both young and old.

These people were commenting on the posters under the billboard.

One of the boys carrying a guitar caught Liang Liang's attention.

The boy looked to be about fifteen or sixteen years old. He was rather thin, and the violin case he was carrying seemed too big for him, making him look a bit tired.

This boy is very interesting; he saw him the moment Liang Liang sat down in the shade under the billboard.

He glanced at the man on the billboard, who was holding a bass guitar and looked like he was about to charge into battle, and then at Liang Liang, who was sitting on the curb with a bottle of mineral water.

After glancing at the billboard and then at Liang Liang, the boy moved closer to Liang Liang.

"Brother! Is that you in the billboard?"

Liang Liang laughed: "Do I look like one?"

The boy nodded firmly: "I can tell it's you. I have a question: why does the guitar you're holding only have four strings?"

Liang Liang was taken aback: "You don't know bass?"

The boy shook his head: "The teacher didn't say that."

"That's an electric bass. It's very similar to an electric guitar, but it has fewer strings."

The boy nodded, indicating that he understood.

Where are you going with your guitar?

"Go learn guitar!"

In 1993, these young parents had a very forward-thinking mindset, sending their child to learn guitar.

Are there guitar lessons in Landy City?

"No! I learned guitar at the Children's Palace."

"How long have you been studying? What stage have you reached?"

"I've been learning for three months now, and I'm learning to strum."

You learned to strum in just three months?

Isn't this process a bit too fast?

"Could you scan it for me to hear?"

The boy was not intimidated at all, and opened the guitar case to take out a Red Cotton solid-top guitar.

Although both are red cotton guitars, this boy's guitar is much more advanced than the plywood guitar that Liang Liang from the dance troupe used to play.

The boy sat down next to Liang Liang and began to strum the strings, using his hands.

The boy's strumming confused Liang Liang a bit; the strumming was uneven, the high and low notes weren't prominent enough, and his hand position was incorrect.

The strumming was a complete failure, not much different from an average person picking up a few strings for the first time and fiddling with them.

It can be concluded that his teacher was not from a formal academic background and was not highly skilled.

"Little brother! Your strumming technique is not standard. When you strum with your thumb, your fingers should be naturally spread out, like this."

Liang Liang made a slightly curved gesture.

"It's best to use your thumb for all the backstroke movements as well, as this makes the strumming sound fuller and more cohesive. The downside is... little brother! Can you understand what I'm saying?"

The boy was a little confused: "I don't understand everything."

Liang Liang took the boy's guitar and tuned it first.

Liang Liang gently swept his thumb across the strings.

The sound coming from the guitar was like grains of rice falling one by one into clear water.

"When strumming, the right hand should primarily use the wrist. It's crucial to relax; the forearm should be driven by the wrist's movement. This will appear natural and graceful. Do you understand?"

The boy nodded.

"Just listen and understand. This requires a lot of practice over a long period of time. You can't master it in one or two tries. When you look in the mirror and feel that your wrist and arm are very coordinated, you will find that the sound of your strumming will naturally become mellow and beautiful. Come on! Try it out."

Liang Liang taught the boy step by step, but of course, it was impossible for him to become familiar with coordination after just a few sessions.

Even so, the boy's strumming was fundamentally different from his previous strumming.

"Brother! I think you teach better than our teacher. I seem to understand as soon as you explain or demonstrate. Can you teach me in the future?"

"Tell your brother first, do you like playing the guitar?"

The boy paused for a moment: "I don't like it! My dad likes it."

The boy's answer surprised Liang Liang: "Why learn it if you don't like it?"

“My grades aren’t very good. My dad said if I don’t do well in school, I should learn to play the guitar.”

This seems interesting.

"If you don't like playing the guitar, no matter how well you are taught, you will never become a guitar master. To become a guitar master, you must first fall in love with the sport from the bottom of your heart, and ideally, you should be able to imagine yourself as a guitar."

"So how can one come to like the guitar?"

Liang Liang's answer to this question was somewhat inadequate.

"Well, let me ask you a question: do you have a girl you like at school?"

The boy blushed, neither admitting nor denying it.

This indicates that the boy has a girl he likes.

"If I tell you that playing guitar will attract girls, will that make you fall in love with playing guitar?"

The boy considered it seriously for a while, then nodded: "I think it's possible!"

"Practice hard for the girl in your heart!"

This reason cannot be said to be misleading. Back then, those who played guitar and sang rock music initially did it in order to pick up girls!

Don't listen to their lofty pronouncements; those are just ideologies. What they're really thinking about is business.

The boy nodded.

“We’ll be here for four or five days. If you have any questions during these days, you can come to me and I can teach you.”

"good!"

The boy politely said goodbye to Liang Liang and turned to leave.

He needs to go to the Children's Palace to learn the piano; it will be late if he waits any longer.
