Chapter Fifty-Nine: The First Theater Performance

"Sister Liang! How's it going at the cinema?"

Liang Hongyu also helped out at the cinema.

She's a restless person; she always wants to find something to do when she has nothing to do.

Her teammates had a few days off after the selection competition, and she really had nothing to do these days.

"Sigh! I haven't sold many copies." Liang Hongyu sighed.

Mu Shuihua felt a chill in her heart, and her hands began to tremble.

"Sister Mu! You really are showing signs of Alzheimer's now, and you actually believe that? Didn't you see my godmother's eyes are practically brimming with laughter?" Liang Liang quickly stepped in to smooth things over, as Mu Shuihua was pregnant and couldn't afford to be subjected to too much stress.

Upon hearing Liang Liang's words, Liang Hongyu burst into laughter: "Girl! I was just kidding. When I came, almost a thousand of the 1,100 tickets had already been sold. I reckon they're all sold out now. You didn't see the spectacle. It was like buying books at Xinhua Bookstore more than ten years ago, grabbing discounted items. The place was packed with people. Even if there were a thousand more tickets left, they would probably still sell them."

"Oh dear! Sister Liang! You're so naughty, you scared me half to death." Mu Shuihua's worry turned to joy.

Sure enough, Bi Sheng returned excitedly a little over ten minutes later, clutching a bag tightly in his arms.

The sold-out tickets were a huge encouragement for the dance troupe, and the prize money for this performance is estimated to be twenty or thirty yuan.

We should prepare well for the afternoon's performance in order to win the prize money.

Liang Liang also left a few tickets for Zhao Xiaoqiao.

Zhao Xiaoqiao didn't waste any of her tickets; she gave one to Zhang Yu and one to Zhang Ling.

At one o'clock in the afternoon, when Zhang Yu and Zhang Ling appeared in front of Liang Liang, he was momentarily dazed and thought they were sisters.

At 1:20, the Bi Sheng Song and Dance Troupe's first performance in the theater began.

Facing the theater filled with over 1,500 people, Liang Liang was filled with mixed emotions.

Don't these people have jobs? Why are they here in broad daylight to watch a song and dance performance?

Of course they won't go to work. If they did, how would they come to the theater to see their performances?

He took a deep breath and walked confidently to the center of the stage.

"Good afternoon, fellow citizens and brothers and sisters of Landi City!"

There were a group of Zhao Fang's men in the venue; their job was to create an atmosphere.

After Liang Liang finished his opening remarks, these people took the lead in clapping, and other audience members followed suit, creating a round of applause that was not particularly enthusiastic but still acceptable.

"This is the first time our Bi Sheng Song and Dance Troupe has performed in a theater. We've given our first time, our very first time, to Landi City... Huh? What did you say, brother? What first time? Of course, it's our first performance. Which first time are you thinking about, brother? Your thoughts are a bit wicked."

The whole audience burst into laughter.

"The reason we chose to hold our dance troupe's first performance at the theater in Landi is because we found the people of Landi to be exceptionally enthusiastic when we performed there. We were actually quite nervous, afraid that we wouldn't perform well and would disappoint the people of Landi. I hope our songs and dances can bring you joy, and I also hope that your applause can encourage our performers."

Applause erupted again in the arena.

"This applause doesn't seem very enthusiastic. Whoever applauds will have a prosperous career and abundant wealth in 1993. Young men will find beautiful wives, and young women will marry their ideal husbands. Now let me see your enthusiasm."

This time, the applause was enthusiastic, like a surging tide.

"Thank you all for your enthusiastic encouragement. Our dance troupe wins with the quality of our performances. Without further ado, please welcome our troupe's mischievous boys to perform our first act: street dance 'I'm in Spring'."

The opening act of a concert should be cheerful and lively, able to attract attention and create a lively atmosphere.

Street dance is a great way to open a concert.

The mischievous boys are those young, immature kids in the dance troupe. These guys are already quite good at street dance.

Liang Liang gave them the nickname "Mischievous Kid," and the name of the street dance was just something he came up with randomly.

After Liang Liang finished announcing the program, these young men came on stage wearing loose-fitting clothes and struck a cool pose.

Their clothing was quite eye-catching.

There were no authentic hip-hop clothes on the market in 1993. These clothes were all made by Liang Liang based on his memory and found a clothing processing point.

The performances in Landi these past few days have attracted the attention of many young people in Landi. After the performances, many young people come to ask where they bought the costumes.

The dance troupe might be able to make a little money by making some of these costumes.

Street dance is popular among young people.

With their cool moves and energetic music, the cheers, whistles, and screams never stopped from the moment the Naughty Boys took the stage.

The street dance program's conclusion naturally resulted in a successful start.

To maintain the atmosphere created by the first program, the second program was a fast-paced song.

The second performance by Bi Sheng's song and dance troupe featured a new song: "Snow Is Burning".

The first row of seats below the stage was occupied by people with connections whom Liang Hongyu had obtained through hospitality tickets; some of them were even officials.

With these people around, the costumes for the song and dance troupe's performances can't be as casual as they are in the tent. Besides, the song and dance troupe is now performing in a theater, so the standard naturally has to be raised. In the tent, all those costumes that make the dancers look too fleshy were relegated to the bottom of the trunk.

Hou Caixia was wearing a dignified and elegant Hanfu today, looking quite graceful.

"This is a new song from our song and dance troupe. Today is the first time we're performing it. We hope the people of Landi City will enjoy it."

Since Hou Caixia is wearing Hanfu on stage, the music should naturally be mainly traditional Chinese instruments.

In addition to the drum set, the erhu, pipa, and yangqin were also performed.

First, the yangqin (a type of Chinese dulcimer) enters, followed immediately by the erhu (another type of Chinese erhu), then the bass drum enters…

Hou Caixia's passionate voice rang out in the theater.

In the middle section, Liang Liang also performed a duet of erhu and pipa.

This made the middle-aged and older people sitting in the front row feel very comfortable.

After two fast-paced performances, the next program naturally had to be more relaxed, and Ming Hongling went on stage to sing two slow-paced love songs.

The song and dance troupe's program combined cheerful and soothing elements, interspersing dance and songs. While the choreography might not be considered perfectly logical, it prevented the audience from feeling fatigued.

The constant stream of jokes during Liang Liang's hosting kept the audience in a relaxed mood throughout.

Liang Liang told a lot of jokes today, but these jokes were more formal and had little to do with anything below the waistband; they were all jokes that could be presented in public.

This makes those who have seen their performances always feel that something is missing, and they always want Liang Liang to tell some outrageous jokes.

But Liang Liang just wouldn't say.

Before we knew it, nearly three hours of the program had passed, and now it was Liang Liang's turn to sing.

Zhang Yu and Zhang Ling, who had been amused by Liang Liang all afternoon, stopped laughing and listened attentively to Liang Liang's singing.
