For the bands in Songyang City, the prospect of having a place to call their own in the small theater is good news, but another piece of good news is equally encouraging.
Liang Liang told them that they were planning to release the album "Northeast Rock 2" before the new year. The album would include three songs selected from the Songyang Band, with the requirement that the melodies be inspiring and the lyrics be wholesome and uplifting.
Bands in Songyang who are interested might want to give it a try.
This news was just as tempting to the Songyang Band as it was to the small theater, especially for bands that had never released an album before.
Unfortunately, there are only three songs.
There's no way around it; an album can only hold a limited number of songs, at most twelve.
The allocation of these twelve pieces is as follows: five pieces will be selected from Lianwan City, three from Songyang, two from Changchun, and two from Harbin.
This album covers the three northeastern provinces, making it a true Northeastern rock album.
After everything was settled in Songyang, the Blue Shark Band and all their entourage headed to their next stop, Changchun, to prepare for their performance starting on the evening of the 19th.
On August 20th, the second day of the third stop of Blue Shark's national tour in Changchun, Haiyun Audio-Visual Company held its first product launch ceremony since the company's founding.
More than ten days ago, the day after Liang Liang set off for Songyang for a performance, Liu Wen sent out invitations to distributors all over the country to gather in Lianwan and preside over the first product launch of Haiyun Audio-Visual Company. At the launch, he introduced the two albums that Haiyun Company would release one after another.
One album was by Xu Wei, the company's first signed singer, and the other was an electronic dance music album by the company's female electronic music group, Hanmei.
In the pre-internet era, with expensive television advertising and limited timeliness and coverage of newspaper and magazine advertising, product launches were essentially product order fairs and a very important sales ceremony.
The day after the Blue Shark Band's performance in Lianwan, Liu Wen used the phone to contact his former distributors everywhere.
These distributors initially showed little interest.
Liu Wen has retired and is no longer working at Pacific, so these people naturally lost interest.
This is a very realistic world; if you're not in a position, you naturally lose your value.
He had little interest in Haiyun Audio-Visual Company, which Liu Wen mentioned.
Why would they be interested in a record company they've never even heard of?
However, after learning that the audio-visual company Liu Wen was currently working for was founded by Liang Liang, the lead singer of the Blue Shark band, the interest of these distributors skyrocketed, like the scale on a thermometer dipped in hot water.
Blue Shark's albums are a guarantee of money; they can't help but be wide-eyed. Only a fool would ignore them.
These guys, each displaying their unique abilities, arrived at Lianwan without stopping.
However, upon arriving in Lianwan, they discovered that Liu Wen's product launch event did not include the Blue Shark band's album, which inevitably led to strong disappointment.
Many people decided that, out of respect for Liang Liang, they would order less goods to save face.
In the conference room of Haiyun Audio-Visual Company, Liu Wen stood at the front, speaking eloquently to dozens of major distributors from all over the country.
These distributors are all provincial-level distributors, and each of them has the ability to place orders ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of yuan.
"These two albums are the first batch of albums signed by our company, Haiyun Audio-Visual, featuring Xu Wei and Hanmei, and are also million-level products that our company has devoted its efforts to creating this year."
"Mr. Liu! If your company publishes an album by the Blue Shark band, we'll believe you even if you say tens of millions, let alone millions. If it's an album by the Blue Shark band, I'll place an order for 500,000 myself. But we don't even know who these two people or groups you mentioned are. No matter how good your words sound, it's useless!" A provincial distributor was the first to voice his doubts.
Anyone can claim sales in the millions – that's utter nonsense!
Liu Wen was prepared for these distributors' questions.
"Never heard of him? If you say you've never heard of the Hanmei duo, fine, but you've never heard of Xu Wei either? How did you even get into this industry? Xu Wei performed at last year's Hong Kong Coliseum concert, and you don't even know him?"
"Is that the young man who was the third to perform at the Hong Kong Coliseum concert?"
Liu Wen nodded.
Upon hearing that it was Xu Wei, who participated in the Hong Kong Coliseum concert last year, these distributors perked up a bit.
However, they genuinely didn't know who the Hanmei duo were.
It doesn't matter if they don't know, we have a DVD, right? We can play the video on site and they'll know who it is.
Behind Liu Wen was a large projector screen. He took out two CDs and inserted them into the DVD player.
The first song played was Xu Wei's album "Too Softhearted".
The footage is of the original singer.
An hour later, the distributors were dumbfounded. As seasoned veterans who had been in the music and video market for many years, they certainly recognized the value of this album.
"I want ten thousand! The CDs... I'll take one thousand!" The distributor who had questioned Liu Wen earlier was the first to call out a number.
"Old Xing! Look at your pathetic self, you put in so much effort to only quote ten thousand." Someone immediately mocked.
"Stop comparing, Old Chiang, let me see how many you give!"
"I want 20,000! The CDs are 2,000."
As soon as this guy finished reciting the numbers with righteous indignation, someone next to him sneered.
The guy surnamed Jiang immediately gave him a dirty look: "Hey, Brother Li, what did you mean by that 'sneer'? I only knew the sound came from your mouth when I saw your mouth moving, otherwise I would have thought someone farted!"
A burst of laughter erupted in the room, and even Liu Wen couldn't hold back anymore.
"Brother Xing! Brother Jiang! You guys have such low guts, yet you dare to shout like that? And you call yourselves seniors?! I'll pay! Read my lips: I want 30,000, and the CDs are 5,000!"
The dealer surnamed Xing almost curled his lip in disbelief: "Damn! I thought you could shout out a lot! As a dealer in Beijing, you dare to ask for 30,000? If it were me, I'd lie down on the main road and wait to be run over by a car. In your Beijing dialect, could you afford to lose face like that?"
These guys all know each other, and it's common for them to bicker when they meet.
"Although this album is excellent, we dare not order too many first-print copies. If they sell out quickly, we can just order more."
The distributor in Beijing has a point. There are plenty of cases where something is well-received but doesn't sell well. If something is good but the audience doesn't appreciate it, there's nothing you can do.
Most of these distributors share this mindset, so they place orders very cautiously, generally between 10,000 and 20,000, with the highest being 30,000 orders from Beijing.
Half an hour later, the recorder at Haiyun recorded all the orders for Xu Wei's album.
Distributors from 30 provinces and several municipalities across the country placed orders for a total of 570,000 audio tapes and 70,000 CDs.
