At first, because it was a pen pal message from the Youth Daily, and the other party said she was a girl, Zhou Pengfei assumed that the person on the other end of the letter was a girl of similar age to him.
Moreover, he felt that the other person should be older than him because her tone of voice was more mature, her perspective was clearer, and her knowledge was broader.
But if he was only a few years older, Zhou Pengfei wouldn't mind at all.
But Wang Bingjing said that without pictures, there's no proof, and he started to have doubts too. What if the person really was in their forties or fifties? What if it really was a man?
Although he doesn't oppose homosexuality, he himself isn't, is he? Sexual orientation is innate; he can't force himself to change, can he?
If sexual orientation could be freely changed, he really wouldn't mind if the other person was a man.
Moreover, Wang Bingjing said that if the other person is a few years older than him, shouldn't she already have a boyfriend? Maybe she's even married. If he doesn't have the desire to be a mistress and steal someone else's man, wouldn't he be just wasting his time?
Zhou Pengfei didn't think the person would be in their seventies or eighties, but if it was as he guessed, a few years older than him, it was very likely that the person was already taken!
This is what's troubling him the most right now! He would never do anything to break up a loving couple; he can't get past his own moral hurdle.
But should we give up? It would be too unfair to let him give up without even trying.
After thinking for a while, he decided to take out the letter and let Wang Bingjing take a look to see if the person's tone was really that of a girl.
As Wang Bingjing read those words, she went from simply being gossipy to being genuinely drawn in by the content.
"Zhou Pengfei! You've struck gold!" An hour later, Wang Bingjing had read more than half of it. "Judging from the tone of voice and what she knows, this person is definitely a woman, and she can't possibly be seventy or eighty years old."
"How did you figure that out?" Song Qi asked curiously.
“Look, these are the fashion insights and digital knowledge here. Is this something the previous generation could know?” Wang Bingjing pointed to several of the letters.
"It's good that they're not seventy or eighty years old!" Zhou Pengfei patted his chest and breathed a sigh of relief.
"But like you said, she's more mature than you and all of us. She's probably in her mid-twenties! The chances of her being single aren't high!"
These days, men over twenty who are still single are either socially awkward or ugly. All the beautiful women have already been taken, unless they are actresses like Yu Ning, whose contracts stipulate that they cannot date.
"Ha! You're just having a one-sided crush!" Song Qi said sarcastically. "If you'd known you liked her, you should have taken her in a few years earlier!"
"A few years earlier? I wasn't even an adult then! You're telling me to have a relationship back then?" Zhou Pengfei said seriously.
"Pfft!" Wang Bingjing couldn't hold back anymore. "You really are a law-abiding, honest person! Middle school students are secretly dating these days, and you keep talking about 'early dating'? Are you the dean of students?"
"..." Zhou Pengfei was speechless. Was it too early to start dating in junior high school? "What do we do now?"
"In short: meet up in person!" Wang Bingjing is quite trendy.
"Meet up in person? What's that?" Zhou Pengfei didn't understand.
"It's just meeting up! Meeting someone you met online is called a 'meet-up,' and this is pretty much the same thing!" Wang Bingjing rolled her eyes.
"Meet...meet?" Zhou Pengfei hesitated. "What if she doesn't agree?"
"You like her, don't you? Just say it! What's with all the pretense?" Wang Bingjing pointed directly at Song Qi, "Learn from him!"
“Yeah, Song Qi,” Zhou Pengfei belatedly realized his curiosity, “you didn’t say you liked anyone a few months ago, and suddenly you brought a girlfriend home. How did you pursue Wang Bingjing?”
"Chase? What's there to chase?" Song Qi glanced at Wang Bingjing. "Just find a suitable time and tell her I want to be her boyfriend! No need for all that sweet talk and pretense!"
"It's not romantic at all, and she agreed?" Zhou Pengfei's eyes darted back and forth between the two of them.
"He's an honest man, and so am I. We're birds of a feather, perfect match!" Wang Bingjing said with a self-deprecating laugh.
"This went too smoothly! Song Qi, you're so lucky!" Zhou Pengfei exclaimed.
"Xiao Qizi, did you hear that? Having me as your girlfriend is the best luck you've ever had! Cherish it!" Wang Bingjing, that shameless girl.
"Yes, Your Majesty!" Song Qi actually cooperated by performing a Qing Dynasty salute. What a reaction, what a survival instinct!
"Rise!" Wang Bingjing replied to Song Qi, then turned to Zhou Pengfei and said, "If you like someone, don't delay! Be direct and get it over with!"
Zhou Pengfei nodded and began to consider it seriously.
It's quite late. Wang Bingjing was still working on her homework before she came here! She wanted to stay, but it would be troublesome if she couldn't submit it, so she had to go home and work on it late into the night.
"Sigh! All this love and romance is interfering with my studies!" Wang Bingjing continued acting as she walked out the door.
Song Qi is a night owl. He recently bought some new software and learning materials, and he's back in his room continuing to practice.
Back in his room, Zhou Pengfei sat at his desk, a notebook in hand. He wrote and crossed out words, crossed out words and wrote them again, but he could never find the right words.
He had a series of bizarre dreams all night, almost all of them about being rejected. When he woke up in the morning, he looked at his panda eyes in the mirror and didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Fortunately, Song Qi never wakes up until the afternoon on weekends, so he didn't see his current disheveled state.
Zhou Pengfei took out a face mask given to him by Yu Ning from the drawer, put it on, lay down, and closed his eyes to rest.
And you know what? Yu Ning's emergency mask is really effective. In just twenty minutes, my dark circles were much lighter.
