Chapter 123 collapsed

Madam Xia broke down upon hearing this!

She suspected that Xia Junhu was behind it, and she started shouting, cursing, and crying. She then grabbed Xia Junhu, who had come to visit her, and beat him severely.

Xia Junhu thought the child had died from oxygen deprivation, and that Xia Changlong was just lying to her, trying to give her hope by saying the child had been taken away. After putting on a show of sincerity, she stopped paying attention to the child.

After that, Mrs. Xia suffered from postpartum depression and emotional instability, which led her to be admitted to a sanatorium. It took her a full year to accept reality.

But after this repeated failure, she dared not have any more children. And so, the Xia couple lived a life without children.

Mrs. Xia was convinced that her daughter had been taken away and given away. After retiring from her job, she kept visiting orphanages.

Five years, ten years... she searched the entire orphanage but found nothing. Then she began to wonder if some mother had switched babies.

Therefore, she would ask all sorts of questions about any girl of similar age or who looked like her.

In case his wife needed a blood transfusion and it was his daughter's blood, Xia Changlong required them to undergo a blood transfusion screening before Yang Yajing came of age.

That's how Yang Yajing's incident at the hospital came about.

"So..." After listening, Yang Yajing asked a question that Xia Changlong hadn't expected her to ask, "Whose names are in the parents' section on my birth certificate?"

Xia Changlong paused for a moment, then told her, "Father, Xia Changlong; Mother, Tao Jiaxuan. You have two ID cards."

"What?" Yang Yajing's eyes widened. "You can have two ID cards?"

"Yes, the one you're using now is the one with your former name. Your real ID card should still be with your father, Yang Guohua, and the name on it is your birth certificate: Xia Yajing."

"Boss Xia, you're really something!" Yang Yajing said with a forced smile. "So all these years, my dad has been raising your daughter for nothing? How did you even sign that sales contract back then?"

"What's a sales contract? It's adoption! It's adoption!"

"Adopt? More like foster care! If you adopt me, then it's none of your business!" Yang Yajing glared at Xia Changlong.

Xia Changlong touched his nose sheepishly, realizing that seemed to be true.

“Back then, your mother, who is now your mother, was heartbroken. She loved children so much that she felt she couldn’t have any more children and had no will to live.” Xia Changlong sighed. “Back then, she didn’t care if a child was her own or not; she just wanted to have a child.”

The Yang family was a family Xu Wenbin trusted, with no shady relatives and upright character. Thus, the two families reached an agreement.

The Yang family had saved Yang Yajing's life, and they knew that they absolutely could not reveal a word about it until the Xia family's troubles were resolved.

Later, after raising her precious daughter for so many years, treating her as her own, she didn't want her to return to the Xia family and be persecuted.

Therefore, even though Yang Yajing had come of age and was supposed to return to the Xia family as agreed, they still discussed holding off for now, prioritizing Yang Yajing's safety above all else.

"Sigh! No wonder Dad has loved watching the news, especially the Xia family's news, since I was little. Turns out he was concerned about who I would end up with! I thought he was a fan of yours!" Yang Yajing rolled her eyes again.

"What are your thoughts?" Xia Changlong asked Yang Yajing tentatively.

"I don't have any particular thoughts. Things will remain the same." Yang Yajing shook her head. "Whether I'm in the Yang family or the Xia family, Yang Guohua and Zhang Aijia will always be my parents, and that will never change."

"And what about me?"

"You're still Boss Xia! If you insist on being my dad, then I'll just gain another pair of parents!" Yang Yajing's little face was smug, but then she changed her expression and said, "Don't tell anyone for now. Don't even tell President Tao."

"Why?" Although this coincided with Xia Changlong's thoughts, he was unsure whether Yang Yajing's purpose was the same as his.

"I need to clear out any irrelevant people first; I don't want my life to be in danger." The first half of the sentence was true, but the second half was just to annoy Xia Changlong and let him know that he was a useless father who couldn't even protect his own daughter.

"Ahem!" Xia Changlong also sensed the mockery in Yang Yajing's voice and coughed to cover up his embarrassment.

"So, what are your plans for those so-called uncles and elders? When are you going to close the net?"

"It's not about when to close the net, it's about how to close the net, isn't it?"

"Boss Xia, are you stupid? What do you mean by 'how to close the net'?"

"How are you going to close the net?"

"An upright official skillfully resolves family disputes, upholding justice even at the cost of family ties!" Yang Yajing said without a hint of apology.

"Don't you think this is cruel to your own blood relatives?" Xia Changlong probed.

"Heartless? Damn it, I'm just a newborn baby and I haven't offended them at all, yet they want me to go see the King of Hell. Who's the heartless one here?" Yang Yajing even swore!

Yang Yajing had no feelings for those people to begin with, and with the misfortune that happened to Madam Xia yesterday, plus their close ties with the Jiang family, she looked down on all three of them. So why would she have any pity to let them go?

"So... how do you plan to uphold justice and even betray your own family?"

"We'll talk about that later. Right now, the most important thing is to explain things to my parents!" Yang Yajing said, then picked up her bag and car keys to leave.

"You're leaving already?"

"After I've asked everything I need to know, I still have to go and take care of my poor mother! She's the most pitiful person!" Yang Yajing glared at Xia Changlong and left without looking back.

Yang Yajing already had a plan to go to the hospital ward and fool the paparazzi.

She went to the mall, bought a small item and put it in her bag, then took out a few folders and document bags from the back seat, put on a blazer, and swaggered towards the ward.
