After hanging up the phone, Yang Yajing pretended to continue looking at the reports. When Madam Xia opened the door, she saw Yang Yajing looking completely absorbed.
"Sister Tao?" Yang Yajing heard the sound, looked up, and asked with a smile, "What brings you here? Aren't you off today? Are you working so hard because you're afraid I'll make you lose money or because you're afraid I'll evade taxes for you?"
"Ya Jing!" Madam Xia closed the door, looking troubled. "Something terrible has happened!"
"What serious thing happened?" Yang Yajing pretended not to know what Madam Xia wanted to talk about.
Have you read the news online?
Which one?
"Which one could it be? It's the one where they guessed that Jiang Xuanxuan is my daughter!" Mrs. Xia said, slumping down on the sofa.
Yang Yajing had already put down the report in her hand, got up and walked over to sit down next to Madam Xia.
"Sister Tao, it's just speculation online, why are you joining in?" Yang Yajing laughed, repeating Xia Changlong's exact words, "Sister Tao, how could you and Boss Xia have such a morally questionable daughter?"
"Hey? Why do you sound just like my Chang Long?"
“That’s for sure!” Yang Yajing sniffed. “If Jiang Xuanxuan were Sister Tao’s daughter, you’d really be in trouble!”
"But... does Jiang Xuanxuan match the age? And... what if she's been corrupted by the Jiang family?"
"What if the Jiang family deliberately sent their wild daughter to you to raise in order to find a backer for their troubles?"
"Really? Who would give their daughter away to be raised by someone else? I certainly wouldn't!" Madam Xia shook her head.
"Just because you're reluctant to part with it doesn't mean others aren't," Yang Yajing said, thinking to herself, "But your husband is willing to part with it!"
"What if it is?" Madam Xia was desperate for her daughter and didn't want to let go of any possibility. "We treated her so badly before, if... if... wouldn't we be hated?"
"She deserves it!" Yang Yajing shook her head. "If your daughter acted like that, wouldn't you discipline her?"
Madam Xia fell silent. If it were her daughter acting like that, she would definitely scold her, and she would even get Xia Changlong to help scold her!
"Sister Tao, may I ask when your daughter went missing?" Yang Yajing began to offer suggestions.
"About a week after the birth? Mid-January or late January?" Mrs. Xia had a major post-operative hemorrhage and was mostly unconscious. When she woke up, she wanted to see her child, but all she saw was a photo in the incubator. The next day, she discovered that her child was gone.
"I see! Then you don't need to worry about it anymore!"
Why?
"Jiang Xuanxuan was born at the end of February. If there had been a mix-up at the baby's home, it wouldn't have been your daughter." Because by then, her daughter had already disappeared, and Jiang Xuanxuan hadn't even been born yet!
"What if they got the birthday wrong?" Madam Xia recalled that she herself did not know her daughter's birthday; it was Xia Changlong who told her.
"Jiang Xuanxuan had a natural birth, Wang Xiuzhen didn't have severe bleeding, and the baby wasn't sent to an incubator. Even if Wang Xiuzhen suffers from pregnancy-related cognitive decline, how could Jiang Jucai possibly be mistaken?"
Hearing Yang Yajing's words, Madam Xia felt much more at ease. If she had been lucid at the time, she certainly wouldn't have forgotten her daughter's birthday.
Madam Xia had just breathed a sigh of relief when her worries returned: "Alas! My poor, precious daughter! When will I ever find her?"
"Don't worry! Sister Tao, you're a lucky person, you'll definitely find it soon." Yang Yajing comforted Madam Xia, feeling a little apologetic. "Maybe not finding it now isn't such a bad thing?"
"Why?"
"Boss Xia said that his older brother is ruthless! Wouldn't it be better to go find him after we've resolved our worries?"
Mrs. Xia thought about it carefully and realized that it made sense, so she stopped worrying about it.
But even after she stopped worrying about it, Yang Yajing hadn't finished speaking.
"Sister Tao, I need to tell you something." Yang Yajing's expression was very serious at this moment.
Seeing Yang Yajing's serious expression, Madam Xia also became serious: "What is it?"
Do you know what an online army is?
"who?"
"It's not anyone, but a profession hired to operate the network."
"And then?" Mrs. Xia was unaware of the strangeness of the internet.
"The Jiang family has clearly hired online trolls lately to steer public opinion toward you regarding Jiang Xuanxuan's identity, so I think..."
"What do you think?"
"I think they're trying to find out that you're related to them."
"Recognizing her as a relative? Didn't you say she wasn't my daughter?"
“We know this, and the Jiang family knows it too.” Yang Yajing nodded. “But the Jiang family has recently run into big trouble. I think they probably want Xia Laoda to take over and help the Jiang family out of respect for his daughter and to deal with the crisis.”
"Daughter? Where did this daughter come from? Isn't it fake?"
"We all know it's fake, but the Chiang family can still find a way to make the fake seem real! Fighting with their backs to the wall, isn't that like the barefoot who aren't afraid of those wearing shoes?"
"How can that be?" Madam Xia exclaimed indignantly. "I must expose their true colors!"
"Wait!" Yang Yajing hugged Madam Xia. "Shall we play along with them for a bit? That'll make things more fun!"
"What mischief are you up to now?" Madam Xia pinched Yang Yajing's little nose, which was resting on her shoulder. "Does your eldest son, Xia, know about this?"
“I’ll talk to him!” Yang Yajing sat up straight again. “This really can’t be done without him.”
"What are you going to do?" Madam Xia's eyes were full of gossip.
“Liars…we should make them pay the price for their fraudulent behavior!” Yang Yajing pointed to her lips with her index finger. “They even tried to exploit my sister Tao’s maternal heart and caused you to be unable to find your real daughter. How can we let them off so easily?”
