Chapter 24 The Little Girl is Not Simple

That person is indeed a shrewd individual.

Chen Jiaoyun enthusiastically introduced Yang Yajing to Chen Baiyun, who listened with a smile but did not greet her as if she were a child.

When he saw Yang Yajing, he narrowed his eyes and stared at her for a few seconds with a half-smile.

Who is Yang Yajing? She's not really an eleven-year-old girl; she's someone who's lived for thirty-six years and has met many famous people in schools.

Unfazed by Chen Baiyun's imposing presence, Yang Yajing smiled slightly and waved, "Hello, Grandpa Chen!"

"Yang Yajing, right?" Chen Baiyun nodded, looking somewhat condescending. "Xiaoyun just said you had something important to discuss with me. What could be so important for you, little one?"

"Grandpa Chen, can't a little kid have something important to say?" Yang Yajing wasn't scared at all. Instead, she used her quick wit to say, "Heroes emerge from among the young. You can't underestimate a little kid! You'll regret it."

"Hahaha! You're not very tall, but you've got quite the nerve!" Chen Baiyun was amused by Yang Yajing's disrespectful words. "Then tell me, what's so important?"

"Hehe!" Yang Yajing chuckled mischievously, then somewhat unruly ran over and sat down on another armchair across the coffee table from Chen Baiyun.

With her chin resting on her hands, Yang Yajing winked before saying, "Grandpa Chen, I'd like to ask you to be Duke Mu of Qin, so that I can be a talent scout!"

"Hahaha! You little rascal, how come you're different from everyone else?" Chen Baiyun was amused by her quirky and mischievous antics.

"Others? What about others?" Yang Yajing asked.

"Others? Others come to me begging to be their talent scout!" Chen Baiyun said casually.

"Be a talent scout? That doesn't make sense, does it? Did they not learn the story properly?" Yang Yajing pretended to think.

"Pretend! Keep pretending? This little girl, you're even fooling this old man?" Chen Baiyun couldn't help but chuckle at her dramatic antics. "You're good at quoting classical allusions? Then tell me what's wrong with it."

"Then you can't say I'm showing off, okay?" Yang Yajing said the unpleasant thing first. Only after Chen Baiyun told her to speak with peace of mind did she continue, "Bole (a legendary horse expert) would travel thousands of miles to find a fine horse himself. Once he found one, he would buy it back at public expense and present it to Duke Mu of Qin as a warhorse."

"And then?" Chen Baiyun urged her to continue.

"And then?" Yang Yajing smiled and said, "Then, these talented horses, who were originally forced to do rickshaw pulling work that was not suitable for them, finally found the opportunity to use their expertise in Duke Mu of Qin's army and made great contributions in battle!"

"Then what did those who asked me to be their talent scouts do wrong?"

"Of course not! The exceptional horse was found by Guan Junliang, who has a discerning eye; it wasn't just randomly given to him. If you were a talent scout... shouldn't you be looking for exceptional horses yourself? You don't need them just randomly giving you one, do you? Besides..."

At this point, Yang Yajing glanced at Chen Baiyun.

"Continue? What are you going to say next? I'm really enjoying this!" Chen Baiyun thought this girl had a knack for talking, and he wanted to see how she would explain her story.

"Besides, if we're asking you to be a talent scout, does that mean you have to recommend them to whom? And who's 'buying horses for you at public expense'?"

Good heavens, they're even using public funds to buy horses? Chen Baiyun wanted to laugh, but then he felt there was some truth to it: "Then why did they make me Duke Mu of Qin?"

"Of course, it's so that you can give the talented people I've chosen a chance to use their expertise. That way, I, as their talent scout, can happily collect my commission!"

"Hahahaha! You little girl, you take the public funds and get all the benefits, I, Duke Mu of Qin, give you both fame and money, right?" Chen Baiyun was both amused and exasperated, this was the first time he had encountered someone asking for help without giving anything in return.

"Who said that? Duke Mu of Qin valued talent. Whether it was Guan Junliang becoming a talent scout or a thoroughbred horse galloping across the battlefield, didn't the world praise Duke Mu of Qin for his discerning eye and wisdom?"

"Flattery?" Chen Baiyun glanced at Yang Yajing, wanting to see how this quick-witted girl would answer this time.

"Grandpa Chen, you are Duke Mu of Qin, why would I flatter you?" Yang Yajing rolled her eyes, her skin thick with shame. "If our talented horse wants to get on the right path, you are already a successful person. You have no shortage of future prospects or money. As for fame, the more the merrier, isn't it?"

"So what about you, this talent scout? What are you after?"

“Master Bo Le, judging good horses is his profession, of course he’s making a living!” Yang Yajing didn’t feel embarrassed at all about mentioning money in front of an artist like Chen Baiyun.

"Aren't you afraid I'll say you're all 'money-headed'?"

"I'm not afraid!" Yang Yajing shook her head. "I'm a businesswoman, making money is my duty. Anyway, no one's saying you're obsessed with money."

"Hahaha! You little rascal!" Chen Baiyun finally stopped pretending and laughed heartily.

"What's wrong with my little girl?" Yang Yajing knew that she had almost convinced Chen Baiyun.

"You're quite something, little girl!" Chen Baiyun said seriously. "Since you say you're a talent scout, where's your thoroughbred horse?"

"Hehe! Whether I'm a talent scout or not will only be determined after my promising talent has achieved success." At this moment, Yang Yajing became modest, "For now, I'm at most an art agent."

"So, young lady, which artist are you going to recommend?" Chen Baiyun played along.

"Zhou Pengfei! Don't tell me you haven't heard of him, Grandpa Chen! I don't believe you!"

“Zhou Pengfei?” Chen Baiyun thought for a moment. “I can meet him, but I have two questions to ask.”

"What's the problem?" All Yang Yajing wanted was a chance to meet.
