Chapter 29: Not High Enough Rank

Seeing that Jiang Xuanxuan was silent, Chen Jiaoyun changed the subject back.

What are you talking about?

"Oh, just now Jiang Xuanxuan said she wanted to give up tens of thousands of yuan worth of business so that Jia Chun's gallery could sign a contract with Zhou Pengfei and get a recommendation," Yang Yajing replied.

"Wow! Nouveau riche are nouveau riche! They talk about tens of thousands all the time!" Chen Jiaoyun leaned back exaggeratedly, creating distance as she looked at Zhou Pengfei.

Whether she did it on purpose or not, she tilted her head back and pushed Jiang Xuanxuan to the side, forcing Jiang Xuanxuan to move away to avoid her.

"Ouch! Sister, you're pressing down on my skirt!" Jiang Xuanxuan wasn't about to let this annoying troublemaker get away with it.

"Oops! You've stepped on your sister's skirt!" Chen Jiaoyun turned around decisively, cupping her hands towards Jiang Xuanxuan's skirt hem. "Sorry, skirt! Did you hurt your fabric? Remember to stay away from Jiaojiao in the future! I'm so sorry!"

"Pfft!"

"Pfft!"

Chen Jiaoyun's apology, which was a veiled insult directed at her skirt rather than at the person in question, made the other two burst into laughter.

"Your skirt hurts? Chen Jiaoyun, you're hilarious!" Yang Yajing laughed. "Shouldn't you be asking Jiang Xuanxuan if she was hurt by the pressure?"

“She said it was pressing on her skirt, but it wasn’t pressing on her. Why ask her? Does her skirt have some kind of nerve that causes her pain?” Chen Jiaoyun replied instantly.

Okay! This logic doesn't seem to be wrong either.

"Hey! Do you want to owe her tens of thousands of yuan as a favor? Be careful you don't have time to pay it back! Wet flour can't be washed away without money and water!" Chen Jiaoyun really put what she learned a couple of days ago into practice today.

“Xuanxuan doesn’t need Pengfei to pay it back. Xuanxuan just wants Pengfei to be happy.” Jiang Xuanxuan immediately seized the opportunity to show off.

"Will you pay for it? Or will your dad pay?" Chen Jiaoyun retorted without backing down.

"this……"

"Your dad paid for it, so he owes you a favor? Or has your dad also taken a liking to Zhou Pengfei and is willing to pay for a stranger's son? Are all the people in your family bodhisattvas?" Chen Jiaoyun asked with a half-smile.

If she admits it, it means she's using someone else's favor to get something for nothing. If she doesn't admit it, it means she has no say in whether or not she should repay the favor.

Admitting it or not, Jiang Xuanxuan was at a loss.

"Brother Pengfei, why don't you think about it? I'll go and discuss it with Uncle Jia again. This is a rare opportunity! Xuanxuan doesn't want Brother Pengfei to miss it!" Changing the subject and addressing the other person, Jiang Xuanxuan said this and then left the small garden under the pretext that her car had arrived.

To avoid Jiang Xuanxuan, they hid in the library for a while and didn't go to the small garden anymore.

Jiang Xuanxuan had been to a library once before. But after picking up a magazine and flipping through it, she started commenting on Zhou Pengfei's book.

In a library where loud talking is discouraged, Jiang Xuanxuan kept chattering away, resulting in her being warned by the librarian several times.

Unable to speak, she had no opportunity to perform, and the comments about "manners" from the people and librarians made her keep her distance.

In the library, Chen Jiaoyun, wearing her newly bought Walkman and headphones, was looking at art books while sketching lines.

Zhou Pengfei took out the book by Lu Xun and began to study it diligently.

Yang Yajing, on the other hand, was engrossed in reading a book on the Thirty-Six Stratagems.

At six o'clock, when the library closed, they went back to Yang's Restaurant to eat and chat about their ideas for the competition.

In his previous life, Zhou Pengfei also chose the theme of "all aspects of human life" and listened to Yang Yajing's suggestion to choose Lu Xun.

She knew what kind of paintings Zhou Pengfei painted that would win awards, and she also knew what paintings Chen Jiaoyun had painted.

So when she, an outsider, put forward her idea, it was well received by the two of them.

And because the thought process was shortened, this work is more refined, so winning another award in this lifetime is definitely not a problem!

Every weekend, Chen Jiaoyun would go to the art studio on Changle Road with Zhou Pengfei. Three weeks passed in a flash, and the artwork was completed.

Taking a rare break, Yang Yajing accompanied the two to submit their entries and then spent most of the day playing in the park.

Yang Yajing was rowing a boat on the lake, while Chen Jiaoyun was performing the Little Tigers' songs and dances exaggeratedly at the bow. Zhou Pengfei sat in the middle, holding onto the boat with both hands, afraid that his unreliable senior sister would capsize it.

During the National Day holiday, the winning entries were finally published in the Youth Daily. Zhou Pengfei and Chen Jiaoyun both won first place, and Yang Yajing, as promised, gave Chen Jiaoyun an original copy of the Little Tigers' new album as a congratulatory gift.

As for Zhou Pengfei, a roast chicken was all he needed, which was originally thanks to Yang Yajing. Of course, the celebration was for all three of them together!

As for Jiang Xuanxuan, she wasn't really concerned about the deadline for submitting her work to the competition; she was still waiting for Zhou Pengfei to contact Jia Chun!

Suddenly seeing the list of winners and their works in the newspaper made me furious!

"You, Yang Yajing! You, Chen Jiaoyun! Don't even think about monopolizing my Pengfei brother like this!"

After her plan failed, Jiang Xuanxuan threw a huge tantrum at home, behaving strangely and irrationally. She bullied all the servants before she felt a little better.

It's just one setback, there's always tomorrow! Jiang Xuanxuan isn't someone who's so easily fooled!

She thought to herself, "A poor, low-class restaurant owner and a loud, frivolous girl who can only draw—they can't possibly cause any trouble!"

Of course, she wouldn't say that in front of Zhou Pengfei.

"Wow! Brother Pengfei is so amazing! He actually found Master Chen Baiyun to recommend him!" Jiang Xuanxuan exclaimed with admiration, her eyes sparkling.

"Just lucky!" Zhou Pengfei didn't say anything.

He talked to his father about his experiences during this period, and Zhou Youcheng also told him that businessmen talk a lot about profits, and verbal promises that are not written down are just empty words.
