Chapter 30 Youthful Ambition

"Let's go to the photo studio to print the photos!" Yang Yajing already had an idea. "How about we borrow a rear-projection camera from your senior sister?"

In 1991, five yuan could only develop three photos of 120 rear projection film. Yang Yajing decided to make the most of those three photos.

She also has her own ideas about pastries.

When Zhang Li came to look at the samples, Yang Yajing and Zhou Pengfei were both there. They took out a box, placed it on the table, and pushed it towards Zhang Li.

This is a white, square cardboard box, 20 centimeters wide and 10 centimeters high, with a matching embossed pattern. A black ribbon is tied to the box, and a round sticker with the character "奠" (meaning "offering") is attached to the ribbon at the joint.

Looking at the exquisitely crafted cardboard box, Zhang Li was at a loss as to where to begin.

"It's just a sample, it's fine, let's open it!" Yang Yajing encouraged Zhang Li.

Inside the box was another black box, taking up two-thirds of the space. Next to the black box was something folded like a fan.

The card cover bears the four characters "有心无枷" (meaning "with a heart free from shackles"), while the back reads "祭祀张慈霜千古" (meaning "In remembrance of Zhang Cishuang for eternity").

The next two sections are all framed pictures. The first one is a portrait of Zhang Cishuang, with the paper-cut window decoration in the background.

The second image is a Song Dynasty poem describing a carpenter: "When the mind is undisturbed, all laws are without fault. The carpenter wears shackles, reaping what he sows. With intention but without law, one suffers retribution, good or bad. With law but without intention, heaven and earth endure. When the mind arises, law arises, like the swift flight of a crow and the swift movement of a rabbit. When the mind ceases, life ceases, like a somersault?"

Seeing the exquisite and lifelike single-line portrait, Zhang Li felt a deep sense of nostalgia.
