Chapter 52 Let's Talk Business

During the May Day holiday, Zhang Aijia's good friend Sun came to visit. This person was Sun Huiwen, the business director of the garment factory.

In recent years, because Yang Yajing frequently uses screen printing, the two companies have become closer and have been exchanging print jobs more often.

But this time, Sun Huiwen looked worried when she mentioned the processing plant: "To be honest, the factory has been losing money every year for the past two years, and it seems like the factory manager is thinking about closing it down!"

"Is it that serious?" Sylvia Chang asked, showing her concern for her best friend.

"Sigh! If it weren't for your Ya Jing's several businesses, we probably would have closed down last year!" Sun Huiwen shook her head.

"Oh! God bless us, I hope this factory can keep operating, otherwise what will you do when your child goes to university?" Zhang Aijia prayed.

It turns out that since the reform and opening up, many garment factories have opened in several southern provinces and cities, and they are quite large in scale and fully equipped.

In such a climate, there are very few small businesses that need garment processing, and even if there are, the volume is not large.

In her previous life, when Yang Yajing's family was struggling financially, Sun Huiwen was caught up in the wave of layoffs in 1998.

She was laid off early, in her forties, and her child had just started university, leaving them in dire financial straits. She wanted to help the Yang family, but could only do what she could; she simply couldn't afford to give them any money.

It's a done deal that this processing plant will go bankrupt and be sold. There's no market for such a plant, and without change, it simply cannot be revitalized.

"Aunt Sun," Yang Yajing poured Sun Huiwen a cup of coffee, "how much does your factory lose each year?"

“We’ve been losing 40,000 to 50,000 yuan every year for the past two years,” Sun Huiwen said. “It doesn’t sound like much, but our factory is small, so 40,000 to 50,000 yuan is not a small amount!”

"Aunt Sun, does your factory manager have any intention of selling the factory?" Yang Yajing asked again.

“I mentioned it at the beginning of last year, but it’s been over a year and I still can’t make a move. Now it’s just dragging on like this, half-dead.” Sun Huiwen shook her head, looking helpless.

The factory was full of middle-aged women who had returned to their hometowns after being sent to the countryside. They were not well-educated and had no connections.

They don't have the ability to switch jobs; they just want to work peacefully until retirement and live off a pension.

"Aunt Sun, do you still have our studio's business cards?" Yang Yajing continued.

"Yes! There are several more." Sun Huiwen nodded.

Yang Yajing's next words surprised both Sun Huiwen and Zhang Aijia: "Aunt Sun, if it's not too much trouble, you can take your business card to your factory manager and ask if you can sell the factory to our family?"

"Ya Jing! Why did you buy this unprofitable factory?" Sun Huiwen asked, puzzled.

“Yes, Ya Jing, what would our family need a factory for?” Zhang Aijia didn’t understand either.

"Let's make things easier for you, Mom!" Yang Yajing said, taking Zhang Aijia's arm. "And let Aunt Sun and the other women at the factory retire peacefully!"

"What mischief are you up to now, you little brat?" Zhang Aijia glanced at Yang Yajing, neither confirming nor denying.

"When has my cunning idea ever not been a good one?" Yang Yajing said with a grin.

“Indeed,” Sun Huiwen nodded, “Your Yajing is very clever! Look at your family, among all of us sisters, you are living the most comfortable life!”

"So... Aunt Sun also wants to relax a bit?" Yang Yajing winked at Sun Huiwen.

"I do want to... but buying a factory, especially one that's barely paying wages, requires careful consideration!" Although Sun Huiwen thought Yang Yajing was intelligent, she was still a child, so it was impossible for her not to worry.

"It's alright, if you'd like, just go and schedule a time with the factory manager." Yang Yajing smiled slightly. "I'll handle the business!"

"Ya Jing! What exactly do you want to do with the factory?" Sun Huiwen asked curiously.

"I'll tell you after I buy the factory. It's a secret right now, or I'll suffer the consequences!" Yang Yajing was still quite mischievous.

"So clever and quirky!" Sun Huiwen glanced at Yang Yajing. "Alright, I'll go ask the factory manager after the holiday."

"Thank you, Aunt Sun! If I make a lot of money in the future, Aunt Sun will get a share too!"

"You little rascal, you're really good at making empty promises!" Sun Huiwen laughed. "Your Aunt Sun doesn't need a lot of money, I'm just happy to receive my monthly salary!"

Fearing that Sylvia Chang would collude with Sun Huiwen and ruin the business, Yang Yajing didn't even tell her own mother what her plans were this time.

I simply brought up the topic of money with her: "Mom, how much money do you have in your savings account right now?"

"Around two hundred thousand?" Sylvia Chang replied. "Why are you asking that? Are you really going to buy the factory?"

"They've already told me to make appointments, how could it be fake?" Yang Yajing said, glancing at her savings account, which contained over 200,000 yuan.

After calculating the cost of purchasing equipment, the initial two months' salaries for employees, and deducting working capital, we had about 300,000 yuan available.

She thought: If I have a limit in mind, it will be much easier to talk about it later.

When it comes to business negotiations, a young girl like her alone is not enough; she lacks confidence.

Sun Huiwen quickly arranged to meet with the factory manager, whose name was Lü Fulu.

Yang Yajing led Zhang Aijia to the factory manager's office. Zhang Aijia had already made an agreement with Yang Yajing—not to express any opinions or participate in the negotiations.

"Hello, Director Lü!" Yang Yajing extended her hand as soon as she entered the door. "I am Yang Yajing, the person in charge of Millennium Studio. This is my mother, Zhang Aijia, who is also the fund provider."

"Hello!" Director Lü shook hands with each of them. "How old is Yang Yajing this year? She looks like she's still a student, right?"
