At 8 p.m., the Zhou family and Yang Yajing arrived at the East Hall.
Yang Yajing spotted Jiang Xuanxuan trembling and waiting at the door from afar.
Jiang Xuanxuan wore a pink knee-length long-sleeved dress, with a white wool vest that exposed her arms, serving only as decoration. Underneath her white tights were a pair of single-layer shoes; she looked undeniably cold.
Yang Yajing knew what Jiang Xuanxuan would wear for her entrance. In her previous life, Yang Yajing didn't go to the Zhou family's house for dinner; the three of them arrived almost simultaneously, half an hour earlier than this time.
So Jiang Xuanxuan must have been waiting in the cold wind for half an hour wearing this, right? She really knows how to endure it!
In her previous life, Yang Yajing felt sorry for Jiang Xuanxuan, but since Jiang Xuanxuan couldn't fit into her own cotton-padded coat, she asked Zhou Pengfei to give her his own coat to keep her warm.
But in this life, Yang Yajing wasn't so kind! She deliberately made Zhou Pengfei choose that dark red turtleneck sweater before leaving the house.
They said that since she was already dressed in green like a dwarf, he should wear red like Santa Claus to make it more interesting. Actually, it was just so that he wouldn't have a coat to take off and give to Jiang Xuanxuan to wear!
Sure enough, Jiang Xuanxuan's face fell when she saw Zhou Pengfei's attire.
"Are you alright? Why are you wearing a skirt in this cold weather?" Zhou Pengfei couldn't understand what Jiang Xuanxuan was thinking.
"Xuanxuan thought the church had a heater like at home, and it was Christmas, so she wanted to dress up nicely..." Jiang Xuanxuan said in a very soft voice, looking very aggrieved.
"Go inside! Ask the priest if he has a warm coat," Zhou Pengfei urged Jiang Xuanxuan to hurry inside, as it wouldn't be good if she caught a cold!
“Brother Pengfei is so kind!” Jiang Xuanxuan nodded and followed him into the church.
After chatting with the priest for a bit, I noticed there were indeed some cloaks for the choir children. However, these dark cotton cloaks completely covered Jiang Xuanxuan's pretty dress.
But she was genuinely cold, not faking it! She had no intention of freezing herself to the point of having a runny nose just to look pretty.
After entering the church, the adults from the Zhou family went to greet some relatives and friends, leaving only the children behind.
Zhou Pengfei's cousins came over when they saw him.
"Wow! Are these two little girls Pengfei's friends?" a girl of about thirteen or fourteen asked. "They're both so pretty!"
"Sister is beautiful too! Just as beautiful as Brother Pengfei!" Jiang Xuanxuan had a sweet tongue and praised both of the Zhou family children as soon as she opened her mouth.
"Brother, brother! Do you want to hand out treats to the kids later? The priest said you can get candy for doing good deeds!" A six or seven-year-old child ran over at this moment.
"Okay, sure!" Zhou Pengfei nodded. He had already told Yang Yajing that he would help.
"Is my brother still not eating candy this year?" The little boy blinked his big eyes, full of anticipation.
"Hmm! No! I'll give you all the candy if I take it?" Zhou Pengfei smiled and patted the little boy's head. "Sister Yang will give you candy too, are you happy now?"
"Shh! Don't tell Daddy!" the little boy warned before running back to his father.
"I'm afraid that if I say it will cause cavities, they'll confiscate my candy," Zhou Pengfei explained to Yang Yajing, who looked puzzled.
"Candy? Xuanxuan wants to get candy for her little brother too." Jiang Xuanxuan wasn't going to be left behind, even though she wasn't quite sure what kind of help she was supposed to give.
“Sure, the more people who help, the better.” Zhou Pengfei nodded at her.
The choir quickly lined up, and everyone who had been exchanging greetings found seats.
Yang Yajing picked up the hymn from the chair, flipped through it, and tried to sing along when the music started.
Like Yang Yajing, Jiang Xuanxuan was not familiar with these hymns, and she did not sing along, seemingly uninterested.
Watching them sing so earnestly, I felt a little bored and thought to myself, "How long are these people going to sing? What's so interesting about it?"
But what she actually said was: "Brother Pengfei, do you often sing these songs? You sing them so well!"
"Shh!" This discordant sound annoyed a devout older child next to her, who shushed her.
Jiang Xuanxuan glanced at the man and gave Zhou Pengfei a wronged look. But Zhou Pengfei was focused on the hymn and reciting it, completely unaware of her presence.
Finally, when the song ended, Jiang Xuanxuan repeated what she had just said.
“Hymns are only sung at Christmas,” Zhou Pengfei explained, then, hearing the music start again, he turned to the next page and continued singing along.
Unable to sing, unwilling to listen, and with no one to talk to, Jiang Xuanxuan quickly became drowsy. Her eyes were dull, her little head nodding, and she was almost asleep.
Yang Yajing doesn't know many songs, but she loves listening to them. Whether in her past life or this life, music always brings her peace and awe.
When it finally came time for "Jesus Christ Apple Tree," Yang Yajing looked at Zhou Pengfei and sang it with great enthusiasm.
Zhou Pengfei watched her sing while shaking her head and swaying, and he thought it was super cute, so he almost couldn't help but laugh.
Yang Yajing has a good understanding and musical sense. After learning from the Zhou family a few times, she was able to sing with a good feel for it.
Hearing the two voices, Jiang Xuanxuan felt she couldn't give up, thinking, "This is such a simple tune being repeated, it's not difficult at all."
So she started singing along.
However, she was tone-deaf, and her discordant voice rang in Zhou Pengfei's ears, disrupting his rhythm and making him turn green with embarrassment.
His favorite hymn was brutally murdered by Jiang Xuanxuan, so he simply stopped singing it and just hoped she would stop quickly.
Seeing that Zhou Pengfei had stopped singing, Jiang Xuanxuan also stopped singing, and Zhou Pengfei breathed a sigh of relief as his ears were finally at peace again.
