For the past month, a group of people have been getting together every night, and spending the entire weekend together, all in an effort to make that three-minute video amazing.
Chen Jiaoyun's script was a hilarious palace intrigue drama about vegetables. Zhou Pengfei used a color block graffiti style to vividly depict the faces of those vegetables.
Song Qi was busy filming and editing at the same time, changing the scenes according to the length of Yu Ning's voiceover.
Wang Bingjing pondered a humorous combination of musical notes to create a transitional atmosphere.
We discussed each shot again and again, drew one sketch after another, and revised the special effects time and time again. Finally, we finished the work two days before the deadline!
They designed a beautiful packaging cover and included a movie poster, making it look quite professional before they finally sent the item out.
Next, we just wait. We wait for the daily TV broadcasts, for the public voting results, and for news from the organizing committee.
During this time, everyone was busy. Chen Jiaoyun had Quan Wukang promote and campaign for votes everywhere, and Song Qi was also promoting it at school.
Yang Yajing...
"Hey Xia! Vote for our video!" A text message was sent out, "The one called 'The Harem in the Vegetable Garden'! Remember to turn on the TV!"
"Are you cheating?"
"Who cheated? This is to increase publicity! Even the best wine needs advertising; we need to spread the word!"
"When?"
"It plays every hour from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. If you don't know which time it is for us, remember to set an alarm."
"Are you messing with me? Do you? How could I possibly have time to watch TV every hour of the day?"
"Why don't you record it at regular intervals? Or, if that doesn't work, why don't you have your secretary, Ms. Huang, take a break every hour?"
"Take a break every hour? You're paying my salary? I'm paying you to boss people around?"
"Hmph! You say you want to gamble? You don't even know how to research and grasp entertainment trends, what do you have to gamble with me?"
"A provocation tactic?"
Is it useful?
"You wait, girl!"
"I'm just waiting to win the prize!" Yang Yajing knew Xia Changlong would take the challenge.
Although she expected Xia Changlong to respond, she did not expect the way he would respond.
Xia Changlong issued a work order, instructing everyone to go to the lounge or meeting room on the hour to watch short videos on the nearest entertainment channel.
It also came with conditions: everyone was required to vote and write a 500-word observation report.
When we had the last investment meeting, everyone knew that Xia Changlong intended to enter the entertainment industry. They were also afraid of being caught slacking off and not writing a report, so everyone took it very seriously.
For the past two weeks, Xia's office building has been bustling with activity. From the receptionist to the senior executives, everyone is carrying an alarm clock. Two minutes before the hour, all sorts of alarm clocks ring out in a deafening cacophony.
Even at home, employees have to keep up with the schedule, as the hourly news has been replaced by hourly video broadcasts, which has piqued the curiosity of their families, friends, and relatives.
Finally, the three-day voting day arrived. At Xia Changlong's command, no one dared not vote.
Some made phone calls, others sent text messages; within just one hour, all of Xia's employees had cast their votes.
Even family and friends were drawn to these videos and joined in the voting.
Even Xu Wenbin, who was far away in Hong Kong, heard the gossip, but he didn't have this radio station and couldn't see it: "Girl, you made a video?"
"It wasn't me, it was our Green Apple Studio that made the video."
"You silly girl, do you know how lively the Xia family has been these past few weeks? Every hour on the hour, everyone rushes to the TV, afraid they won't be able to hand in their review reports?"
"Hahaha! He really has the style of Boss Xia!"
"You! I think you're turning Chairman Xia into a gambler!" Xu Wenbin said helplessly.
"He wanted to gamble with me, so why shouldn't I teach him a lesson and let him see the reality of the situation? He can't win in the youth market!"
"You silly girl, aren't you afraid he'll break off the partnership and stop paying you your consulting fees?" Xu Wenbin said with a laugh.
"The contract is in place, what's there to be afraid of? Let's deal with one thing at a time. If Boss Xia wasn't thinking straight, he wouldn't be a big shot in the investment world! Relax!"
"I'm all right! President Xia sent me your video recordings for me to watch! I just got them, so I haven't watched them yet."
"Then hurry up and take a look! You definitely won't be disappointed!" Yang Yajing said with a smile.
The Xia family, not only Xia Changlong, but also his wife, servants, and all sorts of part-time workers, were watching the video.
In fact, Xia Changlong had his wife remind him every hour on the hour, but his wife was a very active person, and she directly pulled everyone she knew, whether friends or employees, into the observation group.
Madam Xia, Tao Jiaxuan, was a very cheerful and sociable person, and she treated everyone with equanimity. Whether they were servants or wealthy women, she treated them all equally and was never snobbish.
The servants in the house adored her. They might be very respectful to Xia Changlong, but they were quite close to Tao Jiaxuan.
Tao Jiaxuan is also very gossipy. She knows everything: whose child got into college, whose mother is sick and needs care, whose sisters need to correct their bad habits, and she will help them all.
So she showed everyone the video, and everyone felt very involved and enjoyed it.
Xia Changlong was quite pleased that his wife was busy with some things. Years ago, she had "lost her child," and for so many years, she would feel sad whenever she had free time.
Moreover, she would unreliably bring back a lost child every now and then, claiming that she had found her daughter. Several times she was mistaken for a child trafficker and invited to the police station for questioning.
This also kept Xia Changlong from relaxing, for fear that she would miss her daughter again and go out to "pick up the child" again!
