Another weekend is here.
In the early hours of the morning, Zhang Guoqing smiled and touched the little face of his domineering son in the middle.
"Don't wake him up, let's go."
"Wear more clothes."
After washing up, the couple left the compound, found a dark place, disguised themselves, and rushed to the black market.
Zhang Guoqing stood at the entrance of the alley for a while, carrying a sack full of ten large pots on his back. Soon, two men appeared at the bridge head, pushing a car and standing there looking at him.
"Here I come."
After saying that, he took Zhou Jiao's hand and moved forward.
"Brother, we've got a hundred pounds of clean meat, all the remaining bones and offal have been processed, and the blood sausage has been stuffed. Can you let me take a look at the pot first?"
Zhang Guoqing, disguised as a middle-aged man, took a look at the meat and put the sack in his hand on the ground. The stacked pots appeared in front of them.
"Thank you so much. This is a great pot, better than the one we had before. There are so many crappy ones on the market now. Thank you so much."
Zhang Guoqing didn't feel there was anything to be thankful for; it wasn't a free gift. He watched the two men leave with tears of gratitude, then he took it and left.
It's hard to say who's losing out in this deal. A large-caliber pot cost seventeen yuan when I bought it, but now it's in short supply on the black market, going for at least thirty yuan.
The cauldrons are out of stock and the quality has deteriorated significantly, but the price hasn't increased much. Once the market stabilizes, you won't have to worry about not being able to buy them.
A hundred pounds of clean meat sells for three hundred yuan on the black market, and both are now in short supply. Whoever can tell the difference will suffer the consequences. Ultimately, it's a matter of willingness, each taking what they need.
After walking for a while, Zhou Jiao boasted proudly, "Do you think I'm smart?"
Zhang Guoqing smiled playfully. He had always assumed that the iron pans Zhou Jiao mentioned were all purchased by her. She had indeed bought them, but he had no idea they were second-hand.
Zhou Jiao looked around and saw no one. She whispered, "What's that look on your face? My son cried and asked to take back our two big pots. I thought, 'That's right, I can't let it go to waste.' But then I saw a good pot in the garbage dump and accidentally got a lot of it."
"Uh, well done! Better to hide it than waste it."
Zhang Guoqing boasted absentmindedly, looked around, found a safe place, and put down the two sacks.
"Whether the remaining pots are old or new, I don't plan to sell them in the short term."
Zhang Guoqing agreed. Last time, he was selling pots at the black market, and the buyers nearly got into a fight over them. This influence is too great, so it's best to be cautious.
"Okay. Take whatever you like and take it back. I'll take the rest."
Zhou Jiao accepted them all without a word. With a thought, a bag quickly appeared in the space, filled with the items she had in mind. She took out the bag again, turned on the flashlight, and peered inside. It was indeed what she had.
Zhang Guoqing didn't go to see what was inside. Based on his understanding of Zhou Jiao, she was used to being cautious and must have bought some dirty things.
As for the meat and blood sausage, don't even think about putting them out in the open.
The couple disguised themselves and pushed the cart for a while. Seeing nothing unusual, they ran away.
After all this trouble, it was already dawn when I got home.
Aunt Chen, who was preparing breakfast in the kitchen, saw the contents of the bag and her eyes lit up. "The bones are good. They're perfect for cooking for Ping An. They can also be used as a soup base."
Zhou Jiao nodded. "Just take care of the arrangements. I'll go lie down for a while."
They set out in the early morning and had been tense all the time. As soon as she relaxed, Zhou Jiao suddenly felt sleepy.
Back in the bedroom, not long after Zhou Jiao fell down, Ping An woke up from a half-dream, and seeing her sleeping soundly, he rubbed against her arms and then closed his eyes.
Zhang Guoqing, leaning against the headboard, watched this scene and gently patted the child. He couldn't help but think of his son when he was just born, so tiny, waking up every morning to eat. Now that he's finally grown up, raising him must have been incredibly difficult.
The morning light filtered through the window lattice, illuminating the view. In the bedroom, Zhang Guoqing smiled faintly and kissed and patted his wife and son with his hands. He had never felt so satisfied.
In reality, happiness is simple⦠He doesn't ask for much; he just wants a beautiful wife and children, and a quiet family life. But he also knows it's not easy. After getting through this, he'll have to work even harder.
At noon, the rich aroma of braised food wafts out of the kitchen and floats in the air.
Zhou Jiao and her son began to wake up. Ping An subconsciously took a breath and immediately opened his eyes. "It smells good."
Zhang Guoqing heard the noise in the study, came out to see, and said with a smile: "Today we have your favorite small dish, get up quickly. Do you want dad to take you to wash your face?"
"Yes. My dad is the best dad in the world."
"My son is also the best son in the world."
Zhou Jiao rolled her eyes at the adorable father and son. They were like father and son, equally corny.
"My mother (daughter-in-law) is the best mother (daughter-in-law) in the world."
"Come on, I know I'm fine, and you guys are fine too."
When the family of three came out, Zhou Jiao looked around curiously, "Where's my dad? Isn't today the weekend?"
Lin Lishan yawned and said, "I called to notify you of a meeting at the last minute. Your father went out early this morning. Since you were still awake, he didn't call you. He told you to call Secretary Chen if you have anything to say."
After she finished speaking, she suddenly remembered something and patted her head, "Look at my memory. Xiaowu, it seems that Mr. Zuo was hospitalized a few days ago. Do you want to visit him? Is Zuo Lin coming back?"
Zhang Guoqing looked at Zhou Jiao and said to Lin Lishan, "Do you know what disease she has?"
"Your dad heard someone mention it, but he's embarrassed to ask anyone. So, considering Zuo Lin's close relationship with you, he's letting you decide for yourself whether you want to go or not."
Zhang Guoqing smiled and said, "I have to go see him for Uncle Zuo's sake. It just so happens that I haven't visited them since they returned to Beijing, so I'll just go along."
"Silly child. Go ahead. Cheng Hongli wrote to me a while ago saying that Zuo Lin and his family should be returning to Beijing soon."
"It's better to hurry early than late. Let's go first. You and Ping An can have lunch first and don't wait for us. Son, the hospital is not a good place. It's not convenient for Dad to take you to see the ward. Can you stay with grandma?"
Ping An nodded obediently, "Come back soon."
Zhang Guoqing ruffled the child's fine hair and said, "Mom and Dad will have a safe afternoon."
"It's a deal, pinky promise."
Ping An made a check mark, stamped the agreement, and waved happily to the couple.
Watching them leave, Lin Lishan held the child and paid attention to his expression.
She thought her covert scrutiny wouldn't attract Ping An's attention, but the child looked at her strangely, "Grandma, don't you recognize Ping An?"
"Haha... Grandma is surprised that Ping'an never cries and makes a fuss like other kids, asking for mommy and daddy or good things. Ping'an is such a lovely little baby."
"I'm a man!"
Ping An gave himself a thumbs-up. He felt pretty good too! His parents had said he was the best baby in the world and were so proud of him.
Lin Lishan was amused by him and laughed wildly.
